During this difficult time for so many, we would like to highlight the wonderful work that our staff and members are doing to help others in our community. So many of our members are donating their time, making financial contributions and showing empathy toward others and are all important ways to help! Stay strong and thank you!!! Chef Jerry Bourkney provided meals, twice this month, for the very hard working staff at White Plains Emergency Department. They were so appreciative of the delicious sandwiches, brownies and cookies. Molly Howson has raised over $60,000 and purchased and distributed more than 11,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, face shields, goggles, disposable hazmat suits and hand sanitizer) to first responders and front-line workers. Recipients have included over 15 hospitals and nursing homes in New York City, Westchester County and Connecticut. In addition, local EMT, Fire Houses and Police Departments have received supplies. If you would like to support this wonderful initiative, contributions can be made via Venmo to @molly-howson or the Go Fund Me Link https://www.gofundme.com/f/fundthefrontppe Sue Wexler is the Director of Community Outreach for the Bread of Life food pantry located at 65 Orchard Avenue, Rye, NY. They feed over 10,000 of Westchester’s neediest on a weekly basis. During this challenging time, the need for food support is greater than ever. If you’d like to support the Bread of Life you can either drop off non-perishable items or make a financial contribution via Venmo @Bread-of-Life or online www.givingtreeglobal.org Laura Murphy is the co-creator of digital platform called 6FTCloser that enables people to share personalized thank you videos with frontline workers and first responders. Anybody can sign up to make a video for a stranger on the frontlines who has been nominated to receive one at 6ftcloser.com. Laura was inspired by her sister Pam Murphy (Coveleigh member) who is a nurse at White Plains ER to create these impactful videos to support her and many others!
2. The Racquet Sports courts have been closed since mid-March, this seemed unimaginable to most of us. We all miss playing Tennis and seeing everyone on the courts, we trust that a return to normalcy will occur sooner than later. We continue to plan for reopening, including the possibility of a phased reopening based on social distancing requirements. Initially our pros will only offer private lessons, with the plan to start the Adult and Junior Spring clinics thereafter. Our Junior Summer Tennis Camps registration is ongoing. We plan to run and deliver these camp weeks as scheduled, with both eyes on safety and the new health concerns that we all face. The tennis program and the tennis events schedule may change based on the new social distancing guidelines mandates from the Club and the government. Check out the tennis section on the Coveleigh website to learn more about our tennis program. In the meanwhile, please try to get some fresh air and sunshine while maintaining that "social distancing," a phrase that we could not have guessed would become so mainstream. Know that our teaching professionals really miss all of you. We are as eager to return as you are! We will continue with occasional updates but feel welcome to email with any questions or thoughts.
I want to express what a privilege it is to have the opportunity to be part of another exciting year at the Coveleigh Club. Our accomplishments last year were due to the efforts of our great tennis pros; Paolo Lotti and Alex Yuille will be returning to the Club this year. I would also like to welcome two new Coveleigh tennis staff pros. Joan Carles Alcalà llinares Teaching Professional JC is originally from Valencia, Spain. He started playing tennis at the age of 8. Later, at the age of 14 he won the Spanish National Championship with the C.T. Valencia. Around that age he also started to compete at the national and international level. At the age of 18, he decided to take on a new challenge; to grow as a tennis player and as a person, leaving his country and his family to pursue his college tennis career at Georgia Southern University. He was the team captain and the number 1 player. Now what he loves the most is to help other people and athletes become better at their sport. He has worked as assistant tennis professional during several summers at the Valldigna Tennis Club in Valencia, Spain. Now, he is the current strength and conditioning coach for the Men’s Tennis team at Georgia Southern University and he assists in coaching during matches. While doing that he is working on getting his master’s degree in Exercise Science. JC is excited to become part of the Coveleigh staff and to help members improve their game this summer.
Charlotte van Diemen Teaching Professional & Pro Shop Assistant Charlotte is originally from Rotterdam, the Netherlands and came to America in 2017 to pursue a degree in Sports Management and to play tennis at the collegiate level. She earned a full scholarship and is currently the captain of the Georgia Southern Women's tennis team. Charlotte's teaching experience started in 2014 in her hometown Berkel en Rodenrijs, the Netherlands, where she worked as an assistant tennis professional. Charlotte is very excited to be a part of the Coveleigh teaching staff and she looks forward to helping people of any age and any level improve their game and reach their goals on the court. Her love and passion for tennis has always been apparent in her coaching style and her goal is to bring the joy she has with tennis over to other people as well.

At some point Coveleigh will reopen. When it does, hold on to your hats. It will be EPIC! As part of that epic-ness, we will hold our last candidate reception (date TBD). We are now accepting sponsorship letters to attend the reception. Email your letter to Martha at office@coveleighclub.com or yours truly at covmembership@icloud.com. I will be giving free hugs at the reception. Just sayin. . . . Brian Ahrens Membership Governor
COVELEIGH SWIM & DIVE TEAM UPDATE: I hope that everyone is staying safe during this time and is looking forward to when we can all be together on the pool deck. While awaiting guidance from New York state and the Westchester County Swim Conference, we remain optimistic that we will have a swim and dive season. Despite the uncertainty that surrounds all of us, we are busy behind the scenes in preparation for our season and will send updates as we get them.
With this in mind, we have updated the deadline to order personalized gear (caps, shirts, sweatshirts) from Metro Swim Shop to June 1st so everyone has time to place orders. Metro Swim Shop will hold all orders (including suits) until June 1st and ship to the Club for delivery at our Green & White Meet. This will allow them to easily cancel the order should our season not proceed. Kerby and the rest of our new coaches look forward to seeing everyone on deck in June!
Chef Jerry and his team are excited to restart our very popular Cove Takeout.
Please be sure to go to the website for the Swim and Dive Sign up form that can either be sent back to the club by mail or emailed to swimanddive@coveleighclub.com. On the site you will also find the link for Metro Swim Shop.
Starting, Friday, May 1st, the new Family Style Menu will be offered. Food will have easy reheating instructions included. All apps/ entrees/sides will feed approximately 2 people.
Please reach out with any questions.
A fabulous Mother’s Day weekend menu will be offered. Although we can’t eat together, we can still get a taste of Coveleigh from your own home.
