OUR VISION: To be a transformative leader in educating the minds and hearts of young men by maximizing innovation, tradition, and the strength of our community to empower every Notre Dame student to realize his full potential.

This is an exciting time to be at Notre Dame High School! Our Signature programs in Technology/Engineering/Design, Leadership, Sports Medicine, and Video Production have been added to our selective Peer Counseling and Moreau Honors programs. We’ve expanded classroom space that is designed for students to be actively learning. We’ve developed NDXL, our eXperiential Learning program so all students will have the chance to experience learning outside of the classroom through study tours, service learning, immersion programs, and internships.

“NDXL gave me new experiences aside from being in the traditional classroom all day. I had the opportunity to go out into the world and discover new passions.” OHM PATEL ’21

WE ARE ACADEMICS

The CHARACTER to Lead.

A WORLD CLASS EDUCAT Notre Dame offers an academic experience for a wide-range of learning styles and learners. The academic program is studentcentered and designed to empower students to become all they can be as thinkers and ethical, active members of their community. Our emphasis is on developing critical thinking, writing, and presentation skills that are transferable to all postsecondary work and of great importance in life. Each student’s academic life is enriched by a strong commitment to his social, moral and values development, while providing experiential and service learning opportunities. The Freshman Academy, a partnership of teachers, advisors, school and college counselors, and student leaders helps freshmen make a positive transition from middle to high school, while exploring all ND has to offer. The Moreau Honors program, for those students ready for an advanced academic challenge, focuses on interdisciplinary teaching and learning in the freshman and sophomore years.

“Students will be engaged with strong preparation in their freshman and sophomore years through academic courses, electives, and signature programs.” RUBEN VALENCIA, VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

TION in a values-based setting All students participate in advanced coursework in their junior and senior year. Students will have options to pursue the premier International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, a rare combination in private secondary education. Additionally, students can opt to take courses in the Early College Experience (ECE) program with the University of Connecticut, Students earn UConn credit while still in high school. Signature programs in Leadership, Sports Medicine, Technology/Engineering/Design, and Video Production give students insight into possible careers and enhance our strong academic program. The NDXL (Notre Dame eXperiential Learning) program gives students opportunities to take courses of interest that are hands-on and service-learning in approach and that build skills, awareness, and community.

RITA BENNEY ACADEMIC CENTER Academic Support presents our young men with the tools to become better learners and independent self-advocates. Better learning, better preparation, and self-advocacy translate into success in high school, college and beyond. The center provides services for all students including those with identified learning differences: Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Modification plans. Our dedicated team includes a Special Education Learning Specialist and a Math Interventionist. Academic accommodations are implemented for students based on individual learning needs and ND faculty consult regularly with the Academic Support team on ways to challenge and encourage our students in the classroom.

SPORTS MEDICINE PROGRAM ND’s Signature Program in Sports Medicine allows students to explore potential careers in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training. ND graduates will have an edge in applications to competitive college programs.

VIDEO PRODUCTION Students will gain both classroom and ‘real world’ experience while learning the essential elements of video production. Students will develop strong skills in camera operation, audio mixing, graphics system operation, sound, editing, and overall viewing analysis. Production planning and video editing theory put creative control directly in students’ hands.

TECHNOLOGY/ ENGINEERING/ DESIGN PROGRAM (T/E/D) Designed by Fortune 500 Engineers alongside ND faculty, the Technology/ Engineering/Design (T/E/D) Program is a three year program that cultivates the analytical, creative, and process skills required in the engineering profession. Students develop problem-solving abilities through practical learning applications.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAM (NDXL) At Notre Dame, academic learning takes place beyond the walls of the typical classroom and extends out into the real world. Students broaden their horizons through NDXL, an experiential learning module that encourages students to partake in study tours, special interest courses, service learning, and immersion programs.

PEER COUNSELING PROGRAM Through the Peer Counseling Program, selected seniors demonstrate leadership through service. These students take on a mentor role to the freshman class and act as role models to the whole student body. In both classroom discovery and interactions with other students, the Program seeks to form “servant-leaders, deepening the bonds among us.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAM Students explore the essential skills of effective, authentic leadership through the Habitudes Curriculum, a leadership development sequence of courses. Students take theory out of the classroom into practical application through leadership roles in various Notre Dame activities. Leadership students are also actively engaged in service learning.

WE ARE COMMUNITY

The COMPASSION to Serve. Our Catholic, Holy Cross mission calls us to a life of service, rooted in a community of compassion and Brotherhood. ND students live their faith through active lives of worship and ministry to others including their fellow students, and to the communities around us. • 100% of ND students perform community service each year. • 40+ Peer Counselors serve their ND Brothers as mentors, advisors, and role models. • Service learning opportunities reach communities in the Greater New Haven Area to Philadelphia, Appalachia, Kentucky, and Texas. • Retreats foster spiritual and personal growth and help build a community attuned to matters of the heart. • School Eucharistic Liturgies, an open Chapel and a Campus Ministry Center all provide students the opportunity to bring prayer and reflection to student life.

“With eyes of faith consider the greatness of your mission and the wonderful amount of good which you can accomplish.” BLESSED BASILE A. MOREAU, C.S.C. FOUNDER OF THE CONGREGATION OF HOLY CROSS

“The ND Appalachia trip was an incredible experience for our son. His eyes were forever opened to the world of extreme poverty and he was so moved by how just 5 days of service can make a lifelong impact on the struggles of those less fortunate. We cannot thank ND enough for helping us raise our son to be a charitable and compassionate young man.” ’95, P’22 BAUER PAUL Learn more: NotreDameHS.com/Compassion
