FromPresident Curis... Dear Friends of Notre Dame, Welcome to the 32nd Annual Knights of Honor Dinner. What a wonderful evening to celebrate Notre Dame High School and honor seven individuals whose love, dedication, and generosity have greatly impacted our community. I congratulate and thank Sr. Rosemary, Art Kelly, Rich Ferrucci, Bill Dooley, Greg Dillon, Ron Quagliani, and Earl Tucker for sharing their unique gifts and talents for the good of our school and today’s Notre Dame Men. They model for them—and for all of us—what it means to be men and women with the character to lead, the compassion to serve, and the confidence to excel. Inspired by the legacy and mission of the Brothers of Holy Cross, Notre Dame is a vibrant learning community with innovative student-centered academics and Gospel-centered community service opportunities. We are guided by Blessed Basil Moreau’s core teaching that “the mind shall not be cultivated at the expense of the heart.” I assure you our extraordinary young men and devoted faculty live by that principle each and every day. On behalf of our administration, faculty, and students, I thank you for joining us this evening. We value your partnership as our loyal alumni, parents and friends. Sincerely,

Robert F. Curis President

Hamden native, Richard F. Ferrucci always thought he’d attend Hamden High School. That is — until he and two of his eighth-grade friends came to take the entrance exam for Notre Dame one Saturday morning. “Once I saw and sensed what Notre Dame was about, I knew it was where I wanted to be.” A 1960 graduate of Notre Dame, Richard recognizes the Brothers of Holy Cross, especially Brother Pacificus Halpin, C.S.C. and Brother Germanus Burns, C.S.C. for having the faith in him that led him to believe in himself. As a student at Notre Dame, Richard’s days definitely did not end at the final bell. Serving as class officer, a member of the student council, science, dance, and glee clubs, and Dancing Knights, Richard also was selected as Editor in Chief of the Shield in his senior year. He was a four-year member of the golf team, played freshman and JV basketball, and participated in the intramural program. Following his graduation from Notre Dame, Richard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Fairfield University and a Master’s degree in special education from Southern Connecticut State College (now University).

RICHARD F. FERRUCCI ’60

I was impressed with the Brothers… their passion and dedication… friendships were born of it.

Richard began his business career in the insurance industry in 1971 and was promoted in 1976 to President of Frank B. Hall of Long Island, NY. In 1982, he founded and was President of Contractors Planning Group (CPG). In 1986, he became chairman of CPG, a division of Corroon & Black/Willis. The next twelve years at Aon Corporation Richard served as Senior Vice President and Chairman of their Construction Services Group. In 2004, he founded RFF & Associates, one of the largest independent surety brokerage firms in the U.S. Alliant Insurance Services, a nationally ranked firm, purchased RFF & Associates in 2010. Richard’s more than forty years of executive experience includes the formation and development of the construction divisions of the Aon, Willis, and RFF & Associates insurance brokerage firms, as well as Alliant’s Construction Services Group. A nationally recognized leader in the surety and construction insurance industry, Richard currently serves as Vice Chairman of Alliant’s Specialty Group. Richard maintains excellent relationships with senior leaders in the construction industry and provides unique risk solutions to Alliant clients. Over the span of his career, Richard has participated on many boards for ENR recognized construction firms. Richard credits Notre Dame with having shaped his life. In 2008, describing his education “a blessing,” in his life, Richard established the fully endowed Ferrucci ’60 Family Scholarship so that future young Notre Dame Men could benefit from the education that has had such profound effect on his life. Richard lives in Garden City, NY with his wife Antonia. He has four adult children – Lee, Michael, Susan, and Richard, and enjoys spending time with his ten grandchildren.

illiam “Bill” Dooley is a proud Notre Dame graduate who has dedicated his life to his family, his career, and to Notre Dame. Born and raised in Milford, CT Bill entered ND as a freshman in 1969. Although intimidated at first, he soon grew to love everything about Notre Dame. As Bill notes, “I loved the camaraderie, the sports, the pep rallies, the competition, the caring faculty, the traditions, the school spirit.” An excellent student, Bill was very involved in both Notre Dame athletics and extra-curricular clubs. He was a member of the Spanish, ski, and prom clubs, and the hockey and tennis teams. He played intramural sports as well.

WILLIAM J. DOOLEY ’73

Without a doubt it’s the faculty and administration that make this school very special.

After graduating from ND in 1973, Bill received a B.S. in Business Administration from Fairfield University. In 1980, he began his now thirty-seven year career in sales in the compliance printing and packaging field, selling primarily to the pharmaceutical, medical device, and healthcare industries. He currently serves as Global Account Manager for Essentra, a work leader in healthcare packaging, based in the UK. Bill gives back to Notre Dame in many significant ways. Currently, he serves as member of the Notre Dame Board of Directors, sitting on the Board’s Facilities and Advancement Committees and chairing the Enrollment and Retention Committee. He has worked on many alumni events and class reunions and is a long time member of the Notre Dame Golf Open Committee. Bill’s greatest passion however is lacrosse. In 2005, Bill began advocating diligently with Athletic Director Joe Tonelli to have lacrosse added to Notre Dame’s roster of athletic teams. In 2007, His dream of ND Lacrosse came to fruition when it was officially added as a varsity sport. His sons Billy and Chris were proud ND Laxmen during the program’s formative years. For the past ten years Bill has continued to demonstrate his love for the game by volunteering his time coaching the off-season program in the fall and winter and running a youth lacrosse camp at ND in the summer. The Dooleys are ardent fans of the Yankees, Giants, and Rangers and, of course, Notre Dame. Bill, his wife Kathleen, and his three children William ’08, Christopher ‘10, and Emily live in Cheshire.

Alumnus GREGORY B. DILLON ‘74

To anyone who has toyed with becoming a mentor in the Shepherds Program, there will never be a perfect time. NOW is the perfect time.

G

regory B. Dillon, a proud graduate and loyal alumnus of Notre Dame, has had a successful career in law enforcement and business.Through his support for Notre Dame and dedication to the Shepherds Inc. mentoring program at ND, Greg has made a significant difference in the lives of many young Notre Dame Men. A 1974 graduate of Notre Dame, Greg was an exemplary student while at ND. He was a member of the National Honor Society, the school newspaper, the Christian Student Mission Club, the Pep Club, and the intramural program. Greg began a long and distinguished career in law enforcement after graduating magna cum laude from the University of New Haven in 1978 with a BS in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Administration. After college Greg was a Special Deputy Sheriff in New Haven and then spent seven years as a patrol officer in Branford which he credits for the foundation of his training in law enforcement. In 1985, Greg joined the FBI as a special agent. While at the FBI, his assignments included positions on the Violent Crime Squad, SWAT team, and the Criminal Reactive Squad. In 1990, Greg accepted a position as an inspector with the office of the CT Chief State’s attorney and was promoted to Supervisory Inspector in 1994.Throughout his almost twenty-year career with the Division of Criminal, he worked on the Gang and Continuing Criminal Activities Bureau, the Firearms Trafficking Task Force, the Connecticut Fugitive Task Force, and the Economic Crime Unit. After retiring from law enforcement, Greg began a highly successful second career in business. His first venture was as owner of two CrossFit gyms—the first in Cheshire, CT and one currently in Morristown, NJ. He enjoys helping CrossFit enthusiasts reach their fitness goals through a regimen of high-intensity interval training. In 2016 Greg’s entrepreneurial spirit guided him to his latest business partnership as co-founder of Quandary, an Escape Room Experience in Wallingford, CT. Greg’s involvement and long affiliation with the Shepherds Inc., mentoring program at Notre Dame has had a great impact on the lives of many young Notre Dame Men. Shepherds provides support for underserved students in the New Haven area and pairs them with mentors to guide them through their high school years. Throughout the fifteen-year partnership between ND and Shepherds, Greg has mentored eight students in the program. Currently, he mentors a young man in the junior class, serves as a mentor coach, and is a member of the Shepherds Interview panel. Certainly Greg’s extensive experience in Law Enforcement was one factor in his decision to become involved with Shepherds, Inc. “There weren’t many bright spots in the (inner city) community for young men. I thought someone has to do something actively to turn this around. Someone has to fill this vacuum.” Greg lives in North Haven with his wife Vilma.

A member of the student council, a band member and band officer in his senior year, Ron was also a member of the Italian and ping pong clubs and played soccer.

Alumnus EARL W. TUCKER III ‘84

I would never be where I am today without Notre Dame High School. The reason I stay involved at Notre Dame is because I believe in it.

A

stand out student-athlete while at Notre Dame, Earl has led a life of dedication to his family, family business, Notre Dame, and to service in the greater New Haven community. Born in New Haven, Earl grew up in Guilford, entering Notre Dame as a freshman in 1980. A student who excelled in the classroom and on the athletic field, Earl ran track for his freshman and sophomore years. A member of the football team for all four years, Earl #46 had a key role in leading the Green Knights to the Class LL State Championship against Greenwich in 1983. Described by Coach Tom Marcucci as “spirited and energetic,” Coach remembers the time Earl pulled into the ND parking lot— late for practice—in a “giant dump truck that eclipsed the whole side of the building. Earl jumped out of the truck dressed in a tee shirt, shorts, and work boots and ran to change for practice. The team waited in hushed silence to see my reaction. I couldn’t do anything but laugh.” Earl’s father had asked him to pick up the truck before practice. According to Coach Marcucci, “That day, Earl earned his place in the annals of ND lore.” After graduating from Notre Dame in 1984, Earl attended University of Miami and then transferred to the University of New Haven where he received his degree in Civil Engineering. Soon after graduation, Earl joined the family business, Empire Paving Inc., one of Connecticut’s largest road building contractors. Currently, Earl is the Senior Vice- President of Empire Paving Inc. Besides being a driving force in several other successful businesses, Earl is a PADI Certified Scuba Diver, a multi-engine instrument airplane pilot, a licensed helicopter pilot, and an avid boater through his membership at the Branford Yacht Club. He holds a CT Real Estate license and is very active in the areas of land development and rental income properties. He also holds a CT Plumbers’ license, and a State of CT subsurface installer license. Earl has served on several boards including serving as past board chair of St. Mary Parish in Branford and as a board member of the Branford Fire Department Construction. He is a current board member at Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden, CT. Always loyal to Notre Dame, Earl gave of his time, talent and treasure to the “Fields of Dreams” Campaign. He directed Phase 1 of the project which was the renovation of the side practice field, fondly remembered as the “dust bowl” by generations of ND athletes. He took great pride in transforming this field for future Green Knights and out of his great affection for Notre Dame—and of course “Coach” Marcucci! Earl has been married for twenty-nine years to his high school sweetheart and lovely wife Mary, a 1984 Sacred Heart Academy graduate. Together they have five children: Courteney, Taylor, Caitlin, Megan, and Earl IV, who graduated from Notre Dame in 2015. They reside in Branford.
