Notre Dame welcomes all students and gives them the space to express themselves and develop a voice. As a girls' school, Notre Dame is a very comforting and supportive community which has allowed me to find myself throughout high school and build many friendships. I appreciate the diverse faculty and how the small class sizes allow students to collaborate with one another. Overall, attending Notre Dame was the best decision I have ever made!"

Why
Notre Dame Since 1851, Notre Dame has provided a distinctive Catholic, college-preparatory education for the young women of Silicon Valley. Building on a strong tradition of teaching students "what they need to know for life," Notre Dame educates today’s young women for leadership, global citizenship and socially-responsible entrepreneurship. The foundation provided by the Hallmarks of a Notre Dame learning community grounds our work in a commitment to holistic education, the dignity of all people and action on behalf of social justice. Our rich urban landscape and innovative programs cultivate young women with strong voices who will bring intelligent compassion to their world — young women who become active leaders in our local, national and global communities. We further commit to that vision with the addition of the Center for Women’s Leadership on our campus, a classroom building with learning labs, a center for career and life success, and a meditation space to promote spiritual growth. I invite you to learn more about Notre Dame's unique history, sustainable finances, distinctive programs and impressive students. Witness the transformative impact of the Notre Dame experience. Tradition
Meets Innovation
Notre Dame embodies both tradition and innovation, celebrating our rich Catholic legacy while providing a relevant education that cultivates leadership for excellence and social justice needed in the 21st century. Integrated learning across the curriculum, experiential field trips out into our urban community and beyond, state-of-the-art equipment and faculty recognized for innovation in education contribute to the distinctive programming that defines a Notre Dame education. Our culture of innovation also ensures that a Notre Dame education remains relevant in a rapidly changing landscape. Students, and their teachers, are encouraged to generate ideas and formulate solutions to challenges facing our learning community as well as our local and global communities.
Notre Dame’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) curriculum helps me to think outside of the box and use my creativity to solve problems. I am taking Independent Science Research this year and also a design thinking class, which will help me develop project management and leadership skills to prepare me for a STEAM career."

Notre Dame's emphasis on Catholic identity has allowed me to grow as a person spiritually. We learned about concepts like the universe of obligation and being an upstander versus a bystander. I have learned the importance of what I can bring to my community, which has affected how I show up for my friends and family. The space for reflection at Notre Dame created by the religion courses and the importance put on spirituality has truly allowed me to grow as a person for myself and the community around me!"

Catholic in the 21st Century At Notre Dame, we develop spiritually-grounded young women. Guided by the wisdom of Saint Julie Billiart, foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, we have provided a challenging Catholic education for more than 170 years. Through our program, students at Notre Dame develop a strong spiritual core and sense of self as well as their individual perspective on social issues. Under the direction of the religious studies and campus ministry team, students engage in their journey through theological inquiry and spiritual practice. More than 100 student leaders help plan and implement Catholic liturgies as well as opportunities for meditation, reflection and prayer for students of all faiths. All students take religious studies courses, participate in spiritual retreats and serve at local agencies in the community. On average, seventy-seven percent of students exceed their community service-learning requirement. As young women of service and impact, they are spiritual seekers and justice advocates who take their place as community leaders.

Educating students who dream broadly about the future and are uniquely positioned to achieve those dreams is at the heart of the Notre Dame experience. Studies have shown that students thrive in a women-centric learning environment. They are more confident, have higher career aspirations, and are more competitive and willing to take positive risks. Students studying STEAM subjects in an all-girls schools have been found to outperform their counterparts at co-educational schools. Additionally, such an environment fosters more meaningful relationships with teachers and mentors. As the oldest all-girls school in the western United States, Notre Dame has an established history of providing education that develops students to become people of impact.
One of my favorite memories is being part of the Woman's Place Project (WPP). Through the deep research and writing components, I was able to honor a woman that inspired me as a person and as a future influential woman. The WPP brought me together with my class and also helped me learn about myself on a deeper level. It also allowed me to show my creative side and my analytical side too."

Vision 2025 for Women's Leadership Notre Dame's Strategic Plan challenges us to continue to build on 171 years of innovation and tradition as an institution. Coupled with a strong leadership model and continued commitment to race, equity, diversity and inclusion (REDI) work, Vision 2025 for Women's Leadership will shape the future at Notre Dame. The dedication of the Center for Women's Leadership in 2020 provided a tangible expression of the school's aspirational vision to be recognized as the center for women's leadership in Silicon Valley. To enhance and extend the opportunity of the building's designated spaces to support leadership skill development in Notre Dame's students, the strategic plan initiatives provide shape and vision for next steps in the leadership development of key constituents. By 2025, Notre Dame High School will be the center for women’s leadership in Silicon Valley. We will be recognized as the model for: • A robust culture of engagement that supports women’s leadership • Women's spiritual leadership in the 21st century • A professional learning community that influences women’s leadership
Women's leadership is an integral value of the ND community. We are often reminded of the importance of this role within our school community and in the greater community as we learn about historic and modern-day examples of female leaders. Not only do we learn about them, but we are also offered various opportunities to put this knowledge into practice and represent our ND community as leaders."

A Notre Dame education extends well beyond the footprint of our downtown campus, out into the tenth largest city in the United States and the thriving center of Silicon Valley. Classroom learning across the curriculum is applied in real-world contexts through visits to our local neighbors. Classes regularly visit historic landmarks, civic and political organizations, and culturally-rich communities within walking distance of campus including the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, the Tech Interactive, Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph, the San José Museum of Art and San José State University. These are just a few of the resources that provide opportunities for faculty to empower students to think critically and creatively about the world around them. Recognized as one of the most diverse private schools in Santa Clara County for the past four years, Notre Dame prepares students for careers in an increasingly global society. In addition, studies have shown that diverse learning environments lead to better critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
My favorite thing about ND is the location. I love how we are in the middle of downtown, and surrounded by various field trip destinations. Going to school downtown has made me feel more confident in my sense of direction and I really enjoy all the varieties of food."

Notre Dame
Experience Sisterhood, diversity and joy are evident at Notre Dame every day. This unique spirit began with the two women from very different backgrounds who founded the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. They appeared to have so little in common. Julie Billiart’s family was considered peasant stock. Françoise Blin de Bourdon was a member of the aristocracy. Although it was not immediate, a deep friendship developed between these two women whose lives were so different. Together they founded the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, the sponsoring community of Notre Dame High School.
My favorite part about Notre Dame High School is the community. I love the way that all students are pushed to step out of their comfort zone, and step up to become a leader, and the way that no one is left out. I love the shared goal that we have:
The sisterhood they shared is replicated at Notre Dame every day. Through activities that have become wellloved traditions, students develop strong bonds of friendship. It begins with the freshman sleepover, where the class chooses the colors and mascot that will identify them throughout their four years at Notre Dame. The friendships that begin forming are strengthened each year through class color days, retreats, events and everyone’s favorite, Spirit Week!

Admissions Requirements Notre Dame commits to the health and well-being of students. We understand that a student is more than a collection of data points. Our admissions process strives to understand the whole person — their academic strengths, character, values and interests. Research has evidenced biases within one-time, high stakes standardized testing as well as the overwhelming anxiety that it causes students. Ultimately, a standardized test score may not be an accurate measure of student academic ability or potential. Notre Dame's admissions process is test-optional, which allows students the choice to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) or to submit an academic sample of work that they feel demonstrates their ability and potential. As part of the application process, each applicant will submit three portfolios: • Academic Portfolio to demonstrate academic readiness and strengths • Personal Portfolio that provides insight into the student's character, interests and values • Family Portfolio that recognizes families as partners in their student's education Please register online for our events during the fall to learn more about the application process and the Notre Dame experience.
When I first came to Notre Dame, I was not the most confident person when it came to leadership. But the ND community made me feel more comfortable and helped me find my voice. ND really helped me build my confidence and gave me an opportunity to be a leader on important issues."
