Many large blue-chip companies have offices in and around the city. The Business School has strong links with Rolls-Royce, the global aero-engine manufacturer, based about 14 miles away in Derby. The city is also rated in the UK’s top ten places to start a business and one of the happiest places to work. The Creative Quarter area of the city centre is a thriving hub of entrepreneurial businesses that has catalysed Nottingham’s growth.

Through innovative teaching methods, the course combines contemporary theoretical approaches to sustainability and responsible business with current practice.
Leading the way in Innovation and Sustainability The International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR) The ICCSR at the Business School is one of the world’s leading centres for research and education in sustainability and CSR. Founded in 2002, the Centre leads teaching and research in developing responsible business practices that support business success while positively influencing society and the environment.
“We have a responsibility to promote sustainable leadership and equip our students with the skills and knowledge to deal with complex business environments.”
You will develop your ability to create and assess strategic responses to complex sustainability challenges by tackling real corporate problems and organisational challenges in your learning experience. The course draws on different theoretical traditions such as political theory, international development, and critical management theory while examining the role of corporations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and governments.
Professor Jeremy Hall, Director, ICCSR
The course includes a range of optional modules in management, innovation and entrepreneurship, and corporate social responsibility. You can either choose to take a broad range of these, or you can specialise by choosing one of three pathways:

Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Nottingham Are your entrepreneurial skills sufficiently well developed to create your own new venture or to add value to an existing business? Our entrepreneurship courses led by The Haydn Green institute (HGI) will help you develop an innovative and entrepreneurial approach and give your thinking a creative edge. Our MSc Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management students’ first module is in Ingenuity where they consider how to solve problems by thinking differently and then build upon this creative thinking through modules in entrepreneurial management, marketing, and finance. This new knowledge is deployed through a ‘live’ consultancy project with a local fast growing business where the student develops a report to show how the business can exploit a new market opportunity - it’s one of the things students most like about the course. Our approach is not to tell people how to become entrepreneurs, but to really engage them in practice so they develop their own entrepreneurial capabilities. The course is open to students from any discipline, so you get the chance to work in multi-disciplinary teams. Multi-disciplinarity is also a particular feature of the innovative cross-disciplinary MSc Entrepreneurship courses we offer. The cross-disciplinary MSc enables students to study entrepreneurship with a specific subject such as sustainable energy, business communication, or IT. On these courses, you spend 50% of your time in the school of the core subject and 50% of your time in the Business School. This means that students from the arts and from the sciences work together to develop new business ideas with great potential.
MSc Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management The course is designed for those interested in working entrepreneurially, whether that is in a large multinational, your own or family business, as business consultants, or as analysts. Entrepreneurial behaviour, the ability to develop opportunities, bring innovation to an organisation and to work creatively, is regarded as important by employers and this course is designed to help develop and enhance these capabilities. The course requires high levels of participation and commitment and includes a strong practical element to support the theoretical learning, giving you the opportunity to learn how to apply your knowledge within organisations or towards starting a business venture. Classes can involve case studies, guest speakers, exercises, simulations, lectures and group projects. You will cover core subjects in creativity; finance and accounting and management and marketing all from the perspective of the entrepreneur and will have a wide variety of subject and module options to build on these core modules Students also work in a team on a ‘live’ consultancy project and deliver the findings and recommendations of these projects to the senior management of university partner organisations.
“The most important thing I’ve enjoyed is the diversity of people, cultures and the opportunities they afford. The MSc has equipped me with the skills and knowledge I need as in the future I’d like to start and grow a successful business.” Victor Udeozor MSc Entrepreneurship
“The great staff and modern environment at the School provides excellent studying conditions. The right blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills that I acquired during this course, both in and out of the classroom, will be valuable and applicable to all aspects of my life. The cultural diversity and international exposure I experienced provided me with the opportunity to become independent.” Tania Israni MSc Entrepreneurship The Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (HGI) The Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (HGI) at the Business School has one of the longest traditions of entrepreneurship education in the UK and is the University’s centre of entrepreneurial skills development, innovation, and work with small and medium enterprises. The University of Nottingham is one of four University Enterprise Zones (UEZs) across England. UEZs aim to encourage universities to strengthen their roles as strategic partners in local growth and to stimulate development of incubator space for small businesses.
“The aim is to enable students to develop fantastic new business ideas and then to realise them through innovation within an existing business or by creating a brand new business themselves.” Professor Simon Mosey, Director, HGI To find out more www.nottingham.ac.uk/business/businesscentres/hgi

“I received my first degree at Tamkang University, Taiwan with a major in History. Before I came to Britain, I was working in a financial holding company as a project executive, specifically dealing with financial leasing activities. I decided to take the CELE English language pre-sessional course because I thought it was better to spend a few months getting familiar with the city and the university before my course started and because it is my first time studying abroad. During the two months I was studying the course I improved my ability to write academically and also enhanced my comprehension of business knowledge. Our teachers taught us the correct way to reference and the importance of avoiding plagiarism, as well as introducing the cultural context of the higher education system in Britain. The approaches and methods that the CELE teachers taught us were very useful during my MSc. I recommend that every international student who does not have any previous experience of studying in the UK joins a pre-sessional course at CELE.” Hanyuan Chang MSc Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management
