DCH MOSQUE

CONCEPT The concept is derived from the underlying universality that unites mosques as places that connect souls to one another and to nature itself. This connectivity is at the heart of a spiritual experience that is more outward looking, transparent and embracing. The form starts with functionality and capacity of the space, then transforms by the embracing, transparency, and nature experience, which is translated into shapes, spaces, details, and connections. This results in an interconnected smooth form that build an iconic mosque people can relate to in sense of its shape, as it resembles Arabic calligraphy smoothness and Muslim prayer movements; and its functions, as it works as the centre of the community. The notion of community, nature connection, and sophistication aligns greatly with Dubai Creek Harbour‘s vision.

FURNITURE DESIGN Cardboards are cheap, recyclable, strong and if treated well very durable. The structure of the chair was painstaking as it was a solution for cardboard to tolerate human weight. The structure was achieved by the vertical stacking of identical 100 pieces. The shape of the chair is the letter «‫ »ن‬in arabic which is deprived from light, the consequence of learning and reading. The chair›s› message is to provide something tolerable, cheap, practical and supportive of reading.
