01. MOHAMED AREJDAL Mohamed Arejdal was my teacher for two years, he thought me History of Art and now Product Design, Arejdal didn’t just thought me at school, but while he was giving his lectures, I was learning from him speaking skills, the use of voice, and many more, besides that after every session, we would talk and discuss some school related topics from art to design, mainly that wasn’t enough. So we visited his exhibition in CM Galerie which was my second time to visit but this time with a whole crew. Seeing Arejdal from an other perspective gave me an other way to see him, his artworks reflected his past, and his past was full of memories from his home town so we had the chance to taste some of his life experience, in fact, this didn’t stop here, my mind was working in the background analysing his artworks and how he turns thoughts into things.

Fettaka is an other great example of a creative artist, by the way, getting to know all these artists is something I should of a year ago, but because of any excuses I did not. So Fettaka and his special techniques made his artworks very humbling and drives mind to think.

Museums are fairly different than exhibitions, in exhibitions artworks are exhibited for sale, but in museums are only for preview, not for sale. All these artworks were organized and collected by Meriem Berrada.

Material Insanity

The exhibition also invites a critical analysis that takes into account the impact of materiality on the world as a global village. In this perspective, the artists on display propose reading keys to help understanding a society under the yoke of cultural devaluation - Moffat Takadiwa (Zimbabwe), Yasmina Alaoui (France Morocco) - and dematerialization to the digital age.

Fifty pieces chosen from the collection will be displayed around themes dear to Yves Saint Laurent – Masculine-Feminine, Black, Africa and Morocco, Imaginary Voyages, Gardens and Art – offering an original interpretation of the couturier’s work using garments that, until now, have rarely been seen by the public. The garments on display will be rotated regularly, in order to ensure their conservation and to constantly revive the exhibition.

El Yo

More than just a retrospective featuring the essential work of Yves Saint Laurent – the pea coat, the Mondrian dress, ‘le smoking’ and the safari jacket – the exhibition, rooted in Marrakech, is a voyage to the heart of what influenced the designer.
