DEPARTMENT OF CONFLICT ANALYSIS AND RESOLUTION The conflict analysis and resolution degree programs are ideal for those who believe in the possibility for real change and want to make a substantial difference in the communities they serve. Our programs are committed to social responsibility, reflective practice, and advancement in the fields of peacemaking and conflict analysis and resolution. Through the extensive study of theory and the practice of real-world applications, our students discover how the proven methods of conflict resolution can improve the ways we live, learn, and work together. All programs are offered in both on-campus and online formats.
Graduate Certificate Program This 24-credit (eight courses) graduate certificate program is designed to meet the needs of those seeking graduate training in the foundations of peacemaking and conflict resolution. It may also be appropriate for professionals with graduate degrees in other fields whose work would benefit from an introductory study of conflict resolution theories and techniques. We are committed to fostering the professional growth of all our students, preparing them to be effective clinicians, educators, consultants, administrators, and researchers in academic institutions, private practices, businesses, and various agencies.
Doctoral Degree Programs Our doctoral students learn to integrate systemically oriented theory, brief approaches to clinical practice, and qualitative and quantitative inquiry. The Ph.D. in family therapy is a 96-credit program designed for individuals holding master’s degrees who wish to fully grasp both the historical aspects and the cutting-edge theory of the current practice of family therapy. The 96-credit, doctor of marriage and family therapy (D.M.F.T.) degree is ideal for experienced clinicians who wish to expand their knowledge to include the full range of marriage and family therapy practices.

Our students engage in intense, closely supervised clinical experiences at NSU’s on-campus Brief Therapy Institute and at a wide variety of off-campus internship sites. Students are trained for professional positions in private practice; employment assistance programs; managed care and health care organizations; child education and development systems; service agencies; schools; and religious, cultural, and other clinical settings within their communities.

The master of arts in cross-disciplinary studies is an innovative, student-centered, multidisciplinary degree program available online and on campus. The program’s interdisciplinary approach encourages students from all fields of study to apply. Each student designs a curriculum reflecting his or her academic background, professional aspirations, and personal interests. The program consists of four required courses and each student’s individualized concentration track. Students may also combine courses to create their own unique concentrations.
The M.S. in college student affairs prepares students for the expanded roles and responsibilities of student affairs professionals in today’s diverse college and university settings. The college student affairs degree program consists of 45 credits (15 courses) that place emphasis on two core concentrations: Conflict Analysis and Resolution and Student Affairs in Higher Education.

Since 1988, we have provided affordable, innovative, culturally sensitive therapy to thousands of tricounty residents. Located in the Maltz Building on NSU’s main campus, our clinic offers individuals, couples, and families a sliding-fee schedule, convenient times for appointments, and quick access to therapeutic treatment. Family therapy students learn the philosophy supporting our solution-focused therapy techniques and experience, firsthand, their efficiency and success with local families.
Community Resolution Services Community Resolution Services prepares our students for careers in conflict resolution in diverse environments including law enforcement, condominium boards, residence halls, and at schools. We have been offering training, workshops, mediation services, and facilitation to individuals, families, organizations, groups, and communities to help resolve conflict since 1996.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS Students admitted to the program must have access to a computer and their own Internet service provider account. Students should be prepared to use technology enhancements such as WebCT (online) components. Students will be required to demonstrate technological competence and computer literacy during the program, including the use of the electronic library.
