The journey from protein to patient In Novo Nordisk, we maintain the entire value chain from molecule to market within the organisation. As an employee, you are guaranteed to have access to extensive expertise and resources every step of the way, from discovery to development to delivery. On average, only one out of 10,000 research projects become a marketed drug. But when it happens, it is worth all the hard work; for patients, for science, and for us.
DISCOVERY
Global Research The Global Research Unit specialises in the discovery of biological medicines for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders. Furthermore, we conduct stem cell and beta cell regeneration research and other early-stage investigations aimed at finding a cure for diabetes, and we explore novel treatments for obesity and long-term, micro-vascular complications of diabetes. The Global Research Unit consists of approx. 1,500 highly qualified Scientists, PhDs/PostDocs and Lab Technicians.
Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control Supply CMC Supply works on the development and formulation of all new protein and peptide processes. We are also responsible for the labelling of finished drug products in clinical trials. We employ some 1,200 people; from Industrial Operators to Protein Chemistry Specialists.
Device R&D In this unit, we design delivery systems that enable people with chronic conditions to live the life they want to live. Some 300 Mechanical Engineers, Design Engineers, and Project Managers work here.

When a project is prioritised within the organisation, the machinery that is involved to take such a project forward is quite remarkable
In my job, there is never any set of standardised rules that apply. You do not get a manual for how to obtain a regulatory approval
