Coin Shows In The Florida Panhandle
Dave, with the increasing population in the cities in the Panhandle, such as Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Defuniak Springs, Milton, have you noticed an increase in the number of coin shows, coin dealers, as well as in the number of coin collectors and attendees to their shows?
All of the shows in my area of the panhandle are smaller shows (30 tables or less) that are sponsored by the coin clubs. The shows are far better attended than what they were 5 years ago.
We have encouraged collectors who want to test the waters as dealers to consider our shows. The costs are less than a big show and setting up relationships with collectors is more personal. The number of shows has not increased.
The show attendance is way up. Everyone wants a deal whether they are filling a hole or upgrading a coin or are after bullion.
In your experience as the Vice President of the Fort Walton Coin Club, what are your recommendations to the new coin collectors when attending a Coin Club meeting for the first time?
The coin club is a social club. We always ask what part of the hobby interests the new member. What is your level of collecting? We encourage our members to introduce themselves to the new members and make them feel welcome. Our members explain the agenda of the meeting from raffles and auctions to preparing for an upcoming coin shows and how they can participate if they want.
(3) As the Bourse Chairman of the upcoming Fort Walton Beach Coin Show on September 23rd and 24th, 2023, what should the coin collectors expect?
Free admission. To be welcomed. Information on the local coin club, information on upcoming events. Between 20 and 30 tables of coins to search for that one coin they are looking for. That they can set up relationships with dealers for the future including want lists.
Dave, Thank you for your time and your contributions to numismatics in the Florida Panhandle.
