According to legend, the great Khan found a golden whip at this location just 50 kilometers ( 33 miles) outside the city of Ulan Bator . The enormous statue is surrounded by 36 columns representing the 36 Mongolian Khans. Travel through the statue itself and ascend to the horse’s head where you will find an astonishing panoramic view over the complex area and beyond. The complex houses a restaurant, a small art gallery, a meeting room, a large lobby and an observation deck. The art gallery is selected by Mongolian artists with Mongolian historical significance and cultural information. In the restaurant you can enjoy European and Mongolian Cuisine. The statue is currently the biggest equestrian statue in the world.
GREAT GOBI DESERT
Secondly lets take a closer look at what just seems to be a Desert, however, there is more than meets the eye, The Great Gobi Desert. One may think, “Why in the world would I go to a desert for a vacation?” With extreme temperatures and barren expenses of gravel plains and rocky outcrops, who wouldn’t you think that? The Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park happens to be the largest national park in Mongolia and considered one of the worlds largest biospheres. You will find some of the rarest plants and animals in this overlooked region. Wild Bactrian (two-humped) camels, wild ass, and the only desert-inhabiting bear can be found here. If you're lucky you will

Walking  the dunes can give you a insignificant feeling about yourself as you see them disappear off into the horizon, a challenge as much as a reward for any hiker. The last place of curiosity is the Yolyn Am, is a deep and narrow gorge in the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains of southern Mongolia. This area is notable for a deep ice field and the Lammergeier, an old world vulture. To see one of these exotic locations would put you in privileged group of tourists that has seen the uninhabited mysterious land.
BOG D KHAN PALACE MUSEUM
Just south of Ulan Bator is a place of historical, timeless value, the Bogd Khan Palace Museum. Here you can observe the possessions and collection of art and stuffed animals of the former Emperor of Mongolia. Though the exterior of the palace seems a bit run down and looks like a perfect set for a horror movie, the inside and the many artifacts and treasures are well kept. What the palace does best is give amazing insight into the lifestyle of the  aristocrats in Mongolia at the turn of the 20th century. This museum is in two parts, the summer palace having seven temples to explore and the winter palace which is a two storey white building built in European style. The summer palace is filled with ancient statues, mostly of gods of their culture. The Winter Palace is situated near the square on Chingisiin Orgon Choloo. The palace, in design , is very European with lots of old stuffed animals and clothing from the era. Make sure you have a fresh camera for this visit.

Do not refuse what the host offers to you as it is a serious insult to refuse hospitality or assistance. At least satisfy him/her by tasting it. Take what is being offered to you with your right hand. It is even better if you take with both hands or if your left hand supports the right elbow, however, never use your left hand. If the host offers you vodka, drink it or soak the lips and return the glass so that it is refilled and offered to your neighbor on the left.
Terelj National Park
Terelj National Park, At 1600 meters in altitude, the Mountainous northern region is a change from its counterpart southern Mongolia in terms of scenery. Presenting an alpine scene right out of a story book its nothing short of magnificent. There are great opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, horse riding, rafting, swimming (in icy water). For the most adventurous hard-core extreme sports fanatics, try some skiing in the depths of winter. A few popular locations are turtle rock and the dinosaur park. There are some areas of the park to explore that are completely uninhabited by humans if you are the explorer type. Wildlife here houses moose, brown bear, and weasel to name a few. Weather you want to ride on horseback, a camel, or even perch an eagle its all here. The beauty and natural scenery will keep you senses heightened. Some locations in this region even may stun you for a minute as you have to collect all thoughts from just drifting away from the vast open area. Most will agree that Terelj National Park is by far the most beautiful place in Mongolia. Following the Bogd Khan Palace Museum is another temple-museum gem, hidden dead center of downtown Ulaanbaatar (Ulan Bator), the Choijin Lama Temple. While it shines with a mixture of Chinese, Mongol, and Tibetan architecture and history, it’s crowded by buildings that are not up to the standard of the once carefully crafted temple. Its a Tibetan Buddhist temple from 1904. Today you can still visit the temple and see a copious collection of religious instruments, paintings and other literary works. Consisting of actually four temples its worthwhile to spend a bit of time here and take in a bit of history. After seeing a bit of culture and history, the access to areas of the city are unlimited. Remember you're smack dab in the middle of this surprisingly active city.

Look hard enough and you will find out why this isolated shangri la is one of the most exotic and pristine places on earth, a return to innocence so to speak. Seeking a Spiritual experience is easily found here. It all starts with the descent to Paro International Airport.
There is no questioning that on the way to Paro you had witnessed some of the most breathtaking views of the the Himalayas. Most of what you see has never seen a footprint by animal nor human. The Valley encapsulates itself with rich culture and scenic beauty.
Rinpung dzong
Most notable places to visit are the Rinpung Dzong (administrative building) for its incredible Bhutanese architecture. The fortress like architecture keeps to its traditional roots, constructed with multi-coloured wood frontages, small arched windows, and sloping roofs. All materials are earthen and unbelievably no nails or metal bars are found in the structure.
National museum Other popular attractions are the historical watchtower which is now converted to Bhutan’s National Museum. The museum overlooks the Eden-esque valley but the real beauty of this site lies within. It showcases a variety of traditional weapons, masks, and other belongings of the Bhutanese culture. The highlight are artworks done by the Bhutanese with vibrant color which tells stories of exotic animals and locations of legend and lore.
Tiger’s nest
If you’re feeling very adventurous, head to the Taktshang Goemba ( or Tiger’s Nest ) . At first glance, you will most likely ask yourself, “How did they build that on a cliffside?”, secondly, “Why did they build it there?”, a good reason to try and uncover the few mysteries of this land through your own personal experience. Most hike up to the mystical monastery while others take a pony part of the way. The high
altitude and forest provide the freshest of air which you may need as you look down off the many cliffs. The ascending path up to the monastery is an attack on the senses with visuals and sounds of nature itself. Similar to the other Bhutanese architectural designs, the real astonishment is realizing the lack of technology used when constructing this wonder as it still stands today.
THIMPHU If you want to see an unusual capital for a country, you're looking in the right direction. Thimphu is built in traditional typical Bhutanese architecture of monasteries, dzongs (fortress type structures), chortens, which are the most distinctive architectural forms of Bhutan. For a capital city, you don't see that hustle and bustle lifestyle that you would see in any other country’s capitals. What you see is a harmonious culture taking its time to develop, keeping things simple, keeping things preserved and always sticking to its monastic origins. It is said that its the only capital in the world without traffic lights!
Tamchoe monastery One of the more well known monasteries is the Tamchoe Monastery. Bhutan structures are not normally known for adding metals in their construction which makes this beautifully located monastery unique. The life line for this beautiful land starts with the heart of the country, Kathmandu. Okay your here.
Kathmandu Kathmandu is a city of mystique. Hinduism plays a big role in the aura that is projected from the religious festivals, the spiritually uplifting supas down to the exquisitely carved wooden window frames. As fast growing as the city is, the city keeps it’s ancient traditions intact and promotes well being and friendliness. The city hosts 4 world heritage sites, the most well known one being the Durbar Square, home of The Intriguing Kumari the last living goddess. If you go in September you can catch this fascinating experience during the Jatra festival where she is paraded through the streets. Another notorious site would be The Boudhanath stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world and one of the most recognizable sites in Kathmandu. The structure is rich in symbolism and draped with colorful prayer flags. Carefully observe Tibetan custom by walking around the stupa in a clockwise direction. If you’re looking for a more quiet place to take a stroll, picnic, or read a book and enjoy the beauty of nature with lush lawns, flower gardens, and pavilions, The Garden of Dreams would suit your needs. A bit south of Kathmandu resting on the foothills of Mount Phulchowki is a place spoiled with evergreen forests and a site of outstanding beauty. The Royal Botanical Gardens are nothing short of 82 hectares of plant and flower goodness. Come in the spring and autumn to see the flora at its peak. While there, make it a point to see the ice-cold Godavari spring and the heavenly view from the summit of Phulchowki, the highest hill in the Kathmandu valley.

Dali Dali is very lively and full of people. If you walk down the lanes in Dali Old Town you can see old Chinese style building with stones. Many streams and a canal can be found flowing through the city. Old Town has many shops and restaurants from traditional food to western. Make certain to visit Erhai Lake Park which leads to our last attraction here, The 3 pagodas monastery. Three Pagodas are made of three ancient independent pagodas forming a symmetrical triangle. A visit to the pagodas should not be missed by any visitor to Dali City. Although most of the artifacts have been excavated, the architecture and landscape around make it a worthwhile trip. Travelers can visit Three Pagodas at night, when it is illuminated providing a fantastic scene. Nearby on the 'marble street' there are many folk-craft workshops and stands specializing in marble and brick-painting.
Lijiang The Old Town of Lijiang, which is perfectly adapted to the uneven terrain has retained a historic townscape of high quality and authenticity. Its architecture is noteworthy for the blending of elements from several cultures that have come together over many centuries. Lijiang also possesses an ancient water-supply system of great complexity and ingenuity that still functions effectively today. The town gives a strong sense of history with its marble pathways, old architecture, and residents in old traditional Tibetan clothes lingering along the streets leisurely will feel like a time of old. The town is decorated with streams and the running sound of water really sets a peaceful ambience.

In Japan these days we frequently see news describing a large surge in the number of Thai visitors to Japan. This news is a very pleasant surprise to my friends and I. In fact today it seems that a continually increasing number of billboards and shop signs are now written in Thai characters. Perhaps the recent depreciation of the Japanese Yen has contributed to this change by attracting many tourists, not only from Thailand but also from all around the world. Japan simply is not the expensive country that it once was. Today there are so many reasonably priced restaurants, clothing shops, and of course retail stores selling all sorts of high tech devices and gadgets! A recent press release from the Japan National tourism Organization showed that this year, from January to May, the number of visitors to Japan from Southeast Asia rose 36% over the same period last year; and within that group, the number of Thai tourists accounted for the biggest increase. The Japanese government decided to relax visa requirements for short-term visitors to Japan from Thailand and Malaysia, and that will, I think, be a significant booster for yet a further increase in the number of visitors from South East Asia to Japan in the future. Typically July and August are warm summer months in Japan; however, during these two months, there are so many local festivals that are rather unique to the Japan culture. I highly recommend for visitors to Japan to take the time if possible to attend one or more of our summer festivals. Also Japan has many very artistic, beautiful displays of fireworks, these events are held across the country. Nothing seems to 114

represent the summer in Japan more than fireworks being fired into the dark evening sky. People of every age are amazed as those fireworks burst into colorful, fiery patterns lighting the dark sky. Being a Tokyoite, my annual favorite fireworks show is the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, scheduled for Saturday, July 27th. Many regard the Sumida River Fireworks Festival to be one of the 'Three Great Fireworks Festivals of Tokyo' as this is the oldest fireworks show in Japan’s recorded history and has been held annually since 1733. In the beginning, the Sumida Fireworks Festival was a small show with only about 20 fireworks, but these days over twenty thousand (20,000) fireworks are set off and over one million people are expected to attend this colorful festival. How about viewing the fireworks while cruising along the Sumida River aboard a riverboat with friends while enjoying a tasty Japanese dinner with cold beverages? To do this, prior reservations are highly recommended. Lastly, congratulations to Thailand for Bangkok being recognized as the top tourist destination city in the world. The survey forecasted that almost 16 million people would visit Bangkok in 2013. This result is especially noteworthy since it is the first time for an Asian city to receive such recognition since the Global Destinations Index was first started back in 2010. The cities next in line were London, Paris, Singapore and New York. What a stellar achievement. Enjoy a great summer! Tokyo’s life
odaiba Have you ever wondered about what it would be like to explore a futuristic city? Perhaps one like you saw in a science fiction movie? or read about in a book? maybe a video game. Those images that you have seen or imagined aren't too far fetched from reality. The reality is that there is a spectacular representation of such an area, Odaiba. Odaiba is one of Tokyo’s newest areas luring more than 30 million visitors each year with its modern shopping and entertainment attractions. Now Travel Asia puts Odaiba under the microscope to find out why its Tokyo’s current hot spot.

Where do I want to start?
T
he artificially made island was originally constructed for the purpose of protecting Tokyo (or known as Edo) from sea attacks in the mid 1800s. One of 6 six island fortresses, the name Daiba refers to cannons that were place throughout the island. Once Tokyo allowed access to its port in the 1940s the island fortress began to take shape. Later in the 1990s it was decided to be redeveloped and showcase a futuristic living with a new residential area and commercial development, however, many companies set up to develope the island had financial difficulties thus bringing the development to a halt. Towards the end of the 90s, it started rising in popularity as a tourist and leisure zone with several large hotels and shopping malls. Large companies would soon follow suit, one being Fuji Television headquarters. This would get the ball rolling for the future growth and development of Obaida.
So you're in Tokyo for the first time, it’s animated, it's noisy, it's crowded, it's overwhelming, bright lights, big city is a bit of an understatement for the megaplex metropolis. Before you know it, the chaotic nature of the city begins to grow on you, ”Where do I want to start?” you may think. There is a good chance you will be directed to a small island across the Tokyo Bay, Obaida. The travel there could be considered an attraction in itself. Whether you take the Yurikamome elevated train, the water bus, or even walk across the Rainbow Bridge you're sure to see spectacular views of the Tokyo waterfront, the harbor, and the city skyline. Once there, you will have an array of things to see and do. Which brings us to our first location:
1
The Rainbow Bridge connects Odaiba to the rest of Tokyo. The two story bridge is an iconic symbol of the bay and is especially beautiful during its nightly illumination. The bridge supports an expressway, a regular road, the Yurikamome train line and pedestrian walkways along both sides. Taking a stroll over the bridge is the best way to experience the grandeur of the bridge whether it be with family, solo, or even with that special someone. Heading to the Odaiba water front, you will notice a building in the shape of a enormous cruise ship docked on the shore. This phenomenal structure in both art and architecture is the Museum of Maritime Science. The Museum holds some of the worlds most finely detailed models of

wooden ships, warships, submarines and super tankers. Head to the observation deck where you get a magnificent perspective of the island and surroundings. A haven for shiplovers alike and rich with historical information are enough to keep you busy for a solid 3 hours. After a glimpse of the past, in close walking distance from the Museum of Maritime Science, you have the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. As you approach the museum you’ll notice the building has a sleek curved design made of glass, very clean, and modern. Once inside you will feel like you’ve walked into the future soon realizing that this particular museum doesn't showcase the past but displays what is being developed now in science and technology. No need to understand Japanese because the the exhibits are also in English. The Highlight of the

museum is Honda’s ASIMO, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot. Watch as it demonstrates its human skills. You won't believe this is a robot. The other major attraction is the Geo-Cosmos, an spherical led replication of planet Earth. A wide spiralling stairway all around it provides you with an opportunity to admire the globe with a 360 degree vantage point. Its able to show current conditions as well as future conditions of the globe. These exhibits are the only one of their kind, a must see! There is one more museum to look at closely, the Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Preven tion Park is a new earthquake museum in Obaida. Though educational in its nature, the presentation and interaction as a whole is what sets this museum attraction apart from the previously mentioned. What’s so unique about this museum? You are given your very own multilingual handheld guide to assist you as you explore an imaginary
devastating earthquake scenario of Tokyo. Asking you various questions to help you recognize hazards. At the end you are rated based off your answers to see how well prepared you were. What an amazing way to use interactive multimedia! There is also a re-creation of a traditional street from the days when Tokyo was called Edo to offer visitors an authentic onsen experience that is sure to be one of the highlights of their trip to Japan. Give your tired body a rest
with a tour through the luxurious bath. there are a variety of pools both inside and out, both public and private to choose from. Lounges and private rooms are available for overnight stay. You’ve probably wondered by now walking around in Odaiba, “What is that futuristic looking building with a ball on top?”

One of the most distinctive buildings in Japan is the Fuji TV buildďż˝ ing and also the headquarters for Fuji TV. The futuristic looking building allows visitors access to exhibits on popular programs and shops. A spherical observation deck sits at about 123 meters from the ground giving you a views of Tokyo city and the Odaiba. On the fifth floor you can observe the studios that make some of the bizarre game shows, or if lucky, meet one of the stars of Japanese TV. The Fuji TV Building is best reached from Daiba Station (U07) of the Yurikamome fully automated train system or by the water-bus. Also note there are free shuttle buses which loops the Odaiba waterfront area.

One of the unavoidable things to do in Odaiba is shopping of course. For shopping, the ideal location is Aqua City, which is a large scale shopping complex consisting of a wide variety of restaurants and roughly 80 stores. The shopping complex itself also gives a spectacular view of the Statue of Liberty, Rainbow Bridge, and the Tokyo skyline in the distance. Visitors can also enjoy movies in a large scale multiplex cinema complex that has the newest audio and visual systems. You'll also see many themed restaurants a good choice for taking the family out for some food fun. A good place to take a stroll with out the mega crowds. So much to see, do, and eat. You'll spend a whole day easily.
Decks Tokyo Beach is a shopping mall in Odaiba consisting of stores that sell fashion gadgets and clothings as well as cafes and different cuisine restaurants. Fashioned after a beachside boardwalk, Decks Tokyo is split into two sides, the Seaside Mall and Island Mall. The seaside mall offers a magnificent view of the harbor. Offering Joypolis arcades and a bunch of shopping and dining options are a choice location for leisure time. The upper floor showcases an over the top hong kong themed floor, the highlight of the mall. Situated in the middle of Odaiba is the easily accessible Pallet Town. This unique shopping complex hosts a multitude of attrac-
tions. The most notable seen from all over Odaiba is the towering Daikanransha, one of the tallest ferris wheels in the world. With a height of 115 metres (377 feet), the 15 min ride should spoil you endless photos for you camera and views of the endless horizon. Venus fort is a 17th century esque themed area with an artificial sky that transforms from night to day regularly and a casino! below the venus fort is the shopping area known as the sun walk which uniquely caters to your pet? It does sound a bit strange. Other attractions that make up Palette town include the Toyota Mega Web Technology showďż˝ case, leisureland fun parlour, and the live entertainment venue, Zepp Tokyo.
