As I transition from one place to another, far from my family and back again, I consider what links us to multiple places and the stepping stones it took us to get there, each different yet the same. These ropes and ties are long and curling, ever evolving and transitioning. Baskets are so strongly associated with place, people, culture, and tradition. Through basketry and textiles processes, forms naturally arise that become a physical representation of something untouchable, and give language to the emotions of home. Left open, my work allows itself to be entered by different people, to move through time and place and inhabit multiple spaces at once. They live somewhere between open and closed, opaque and translucent. Enamel conceals and reveals. Lines of metal weave in and out, over and under, twist and turn. I twine and coil with wire, and weave with thin strips. These motions align with thoughts and notions, and the grasses and leaves of traditional baskets.
