South Side Fall Festival September 20, 21 and 22
South Side Fall Festival celebrates 25 years This year’s South Side Fall Festival marks a big milestone — the autumn classic is celebrating 25 years in St. Joseph. Festivities run Sept. 20 through 22 at Hyde Park. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. With handmade crafts, children’s games and activities, animal rides and tasty festival food available each day, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The festival officially kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with opening ceremonies at the gazebo. There will be two stages of entertainment, and in addition to the music, they also will host a worship service, Zumba and a baby show in the course of the weekend. A fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. is perhaps the highlight of the first day’s events. Saturday’s events kick off with the popular run/walk and parade that morning. Walkers will begin the day at 9:15 a.m., with runners following at 9:45 a.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Fred and Randi Banker are this year’s grand marshals.
Car enthusiasts will want to make their way over to No Place Dance Bar at noon Sunday for the festival’s car show. And if you want to try your hand at singing, there will be karaoke at the park from 4 to close Friday and noon to close Saturday. If you get hungry or thirsty while visiting the festival, there will be plenty on hand to satisfy you. Tempting treats on offer will include ice cream, kettle corn, root beer, funnel cakes, corn dogs, brats, barbecue, onion blossoms, pizza, curly fries, giant tenderloins, turkey legs, beef burgers, roasted corn, gyros, Polish sausage, Italian sausage, hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos, lemonade, slushies and much more. There also will be a hospitality tent, sponsored by the South Side Progressive Association, near the new playground equipment which will host a lost and found and first aid. That’s also where you can find your 25th anniversary South Side Fall Festival T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and caps. For more information on the festival, call 273-3370 or 752-4446.
