NPower has played a pivotal role in my life and has contributed to my technical, professional, and career development. I was drawn to NPower’s mission to provide free technology training and job placement assistance to underserved communities. The program’s focus on diversity and inclusion was also important to me, as I come from an underrepresented background.

During my time at NPower, I learned valuable technical skills in areas like coding and cybersecurity. I also gained experience working in a team environment and building relationships with industry professionals. The program provided me with job readiness training and connected me with potential employers.

After graduation, I plan to use my new skills and knowledge to start a career in the tech industry. I’m excited about the opportunities that are now available to me, and I’m grateful for everything I learned and experienced during my time at NPower.

Aderonke Oyewole Mckinney, Texas

I have been working as a customer service representative for almost three years where I noticed the need for computer skills and literacy was very important to stay relevant in the job market. I told my cousin that I needed a change in my career and he was the one that introduced me to NPower and it has been a great journey. I started with no technical skills and am so excited to gain knowledge and experience into the IT world. Thanks to NPower for this great opportunity given to me to complete my IT Fundamentals and now in the Cybersecurity program.

NPower has been instrumental in my technical, professional, and career development, making a significant impact on my life. As a computer science graduate, I found that NPower not only allowed me to learn new things but also refreshed my prior knowledge. While my time in college was a great experience, joining NPower was truly transformative. Comparatively, the pace of the NPower program was incredibly efficient, with one week of NPower equivalent to one semester in school. Andrew Marcantonio Elizabeth, NJ

I began my professional career as a public school music teacher before enlisting in the US Marine Corps. There I continued my career in music, this time on the performance side as a musician in the US Marine Corp Band. My time in the Marines was spent performing for dignitaries throughout southeast Asia in small combos and larger orchestras. After an honorable discharge, I returned to the education field. Finding the same difficulties, I decided to change careers. That’s when NPower came in. I found NPower advertised on the McNulty Veteran Business Center and the VBOC website and decided to pursue it. As soon as my course in Tech Fundamentals began I knew I had made the right decision. I found myself in a positive environment that trained entry-level veterans and young adults in the thriving field of cybersecurity. Upon graduation I applied for the Cybersecurity course and was accepted. I am now eager to begin a new career in a field of technology I know I will enjoy and have the backing of a company like NPower that is connected all over the country. I am grateful to a company like NPower for offering me a new career!

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY was not the easiest growing up. I joined the military later in life because it was something I always wanted to do. Being an IT specialist in the military was an eye opener for years to come. This job engulfed me in technology and there was no turning back. After my time in service, I was still drawn to the tech side of the world. I remember receiving an e-mail from the Veteran Affairs about a program called NPower but I was unsure about it. About a month later I had an interview and that recruiter reached out to me to recommend this program because of my interests in tech. I applied for the program, got accepted and never looked back. I am happy to have made the decision to join the NPower team.

Anyoh Joyce Forbi

Before starting NPower, I was a nurse and still struggling to make both ends meet being a single mother of two. I wanted to go back to school but was financially unable to. Learning about NPower helped me make a career move for the better. This program has been a gift from above. After receiving a phone call from a different program explaining NPower, I knew this was just the program for me. Between the networking, the mentorship, and even the A+ certification training, this program has been more than a blessing, and everything was free! The only thing I had to do was “trust the process” (a quote used throughout the program). I’m truly happy I made this life changing decision, thanks to NPower.

Ari Henry Upper Marlboro, MD

For the past two years, NPower has been a huge part of my trying to advance professionally and career-wise. Technology has always been a part of my life. NPower really went above and beyond with assisting in trying to help us with opportunities to succeed. My internship was very eye opening since it was my first time doing any IT work for a company. NPower has allowed me to feel like I am going in the right direction. I plan to continue studying cybersecurity and also take advantage of NPower’s cloud course. I want to thank everyone in the NPower organization who has helped me better myself as an individual and career-wise.

NPower was my first step into the Tech field, back in 2018. Seeing firsthand how the infrastructure of a network is crested and mapped out has helped my grasp of technology grow in every way possible. The internships alone bolstered my confidence with the experience I needed. That is the main reason I first started with NPower TECH Fundamentals. Now with 5 years of IT experience I am confident it was worth it. Knowledge of tools, applications, and industry standards where all things you can accomplish with NPower. My time at NPower was a lot more interactive than I had expected, and the connections long lasting. After graduating from this cohort with my Security Plus Certification, I am hitting the job market hard looking for my next career building opportunity.

Brandon Agugoesi Baltimore, MD

Before joining NPower, I was working at Starbucks which I dreaded because it had nothing to do with the IT field. I wanted to work in a place where I could learn more about the IT industry and gain more skills as I continue to work there. After job searching on indeed, I found NPower. NPower seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to gain skills, knowledge, and certifications that could make me more marketable as an IT professional. The skills and knowledge that I have gained from NPower have tremendously helped me in advancing my career and have made me more attractive as a candidate in cybersecurity. After graduating from Towson University, I hope to look for a full-time role in cybersecurity and I know I will be able to with the knowledge I’ve gained from NPower.

Prior to NPower, I was a full time University student who had withdrawn shortly after due to personal matters and was in the wrong state of mind. I did not know where to go or how to feel and was going through imposter syndrome. Thankfully, I had a family member recommend this amazing program to me and not only did the program help me progress with my technological skills, but also my professionalism. Because of NPower, I was able to get back up on my feet and present myself in a much better, positive way. The Instructors, Social Support Managers, Peers, and system as a whole, creates one of the best learning environments and a safe/comfortable place to learn and grow. I plan to continue with NPower and complete my Security+ certification and jump into the cybersecurity field in the near future. Gabriel Adjetey Dallas Tx

I am hold Bachelor of Technology Education and had been teaching Math and Engineering Science before relocating to the US in 2011.

I joined the US Navy Reserves in June 2013. My main goals for joining the military were to serve/ give back, develop the mindset and skills for leadership, explore the career opportunities it presents and learn broadly about what it will take me to live a successful life in an organized way in the new culture. I was in and out of nursing School at UT Arlington and worked jobs from customer service(Costco), Law enforcement, Commercial trucking(CDL). A colleague in the Navy reserves and NPower alumni told me about NPower and the various programs being run and encouraged me to apply when I discussed the kind of life I want to live with him. I applied and was accepted into the Fall, 2021 Tech Fundamentals program. This program is axactly what I need. I completed successfully, obtained all the certifications. I was offered a paid internship at CITI bank and converted to FTE. While at CITI, I obtained two more certifications, Linux+ and Network+ through self-studies. My return to the advanced Cybersecurity training program is a testament of the effectiveness, friendliness, professionalism of the NPower staff and the program for that matter. Simply put, I have discovered the right career path and determined to explore it to the fullest. But most importantly, I am eternally grateful to NPower and its dedicated staff for the opportunities and support.

Joining the army and giving back to a country that has given me so much was always on my bucket list. However, the military gave me a lot more in return. I met amazing people who shared everything and set each other up for success.

A military brother informed me of NPower. He spoke highly of the program and detailed how his life improved after graduating from the tech fundamentals program. He advised that I apply to the NPower program, which I did, and I must say, it’s been one of the best decisions I have made for my career.

Not only am I being trained to become the best cybersecurity professional I can be, but I am also receiving mentorship on improving professionally.

Upon graduation, I plan on looking for a job in the field and hopefully returning to NPower as a volunteer and giving back to the community.

I have my IT Certification ( CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ ,Cisco CCNA, ) I worked In a call center as help desk technician with a company name Human Touch . I am so glade I found NPower because I wanted to build up my technical skills and pursue a career in IT field. I see my future in Cybersecurity as a reasonable extension of my interests and skills. NPower is helping me to gain knowledge, and real world experience to propel my career in cybersecurity. Since I live close to Washington DC my goal is to work for the government in the field as an incident responder.

Jared Logan Farmington Hills, Michigan

Before NPower I worked in Tech sales for a Technology startup company called ‘Packback. After spending a year at Packback, I realized I wanted to dive deeper into the tech industry, therefore ultimately leading me to NPower. My time at NPower gave me knowledge on tech fundamentals, resources, resume skills, and the ability to gain certifications in the tech space. After graduation, I plan to work in cybersecurity in order to gain experience in the tech industry while I continuously gain more certifications and or go back to school.

Jennifer Bradley Dallas, TX

I joined the US Army right after high school. At 18, my mother and the recruiter talked about their experiences in the Army, they sounded so fascinating that I decided to join. I went into the Army Reserve as a Medical Logistics Specialist, where I served 3 years. I then switched to Active duty (where I was deployed to Iraq), which I served for another 3 years. And lastly, I entered the National Guard where I served 6 years. I served my country for a total of 12 years.

After my time in the military ended, I had a hard time locating a profession that fit me. I went into the dental field and hated every moment of it. In 2019 I stumbled across information about NPower through Veteran resources and decided to further my education and pursue a new career field. While attending school at NPower in the coding bootcamp, one of my colleagues encouraged me to work for a company called Henry Schein in Tech Support.

I applied and was hired that year 2019 and have stayed in Tech Support until we were laid off in 2022. I stayed with the company but now in a different capacity of Customer Success. Although nice that I was able to stay with the company my passion for Tech is still my driving force. I decided to further my education and return to NPower for Cyber Security. In addition, I am attending Southern New Hampshire University for my Bachelors in Cyber Security.

Before starting NPower, I was working at a law firm as a help desk analyst feeling stagnant with my career. I wanted to go back to school but was financially unable to. I was living on my own and was trying to figure things out. I Learned about NPower from a former last classmate that was enrolled in NPower and attained a job working for Google. I went to their website and seen I met the requirements and quickly applied. I felt like this would be a great opportunity to network and further my career.During my time in NPower, I felt more relieved being a classroom with individuals that wanted to grow in their careers. It challenged me and introduced me with a different perspective. After graduation, I plan to continue networking and slowly transition from help desk to soc analyst.

I served five years of active duty in the US Navy as an Operations Specialist controlling radar, weapons, and navigation systems. After my time on active duty, I have bounced around to various careers from executive protection to information technology. Prior to enrolling in cybersecurity school, I held a strong interest in technology and aspired to build a career in the cybersecurity industry. However, I lacked the essential skills and knowledge to enter the field. Hence, I recognized the significance of receiving a formal education to realize my ambitions. While studying cybersecurity, I obtained an in-depth understanding of various areas of the field, such as network security, digital forensics, and ethical hacking. I also developed my problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through practical exercises and simulations. I collaborated with fellow students and professionals in the industry, which enabled me to establish valuable connections. Upon completing my cybersecurity program, I felt confident and prepared to embark on a career in the industry. I can employ the expertise and knowledge gained through my education to safeguard sensitive data and systems from cyber threats. Before starting NPower I attended another non-profit which initially launched my IT career in Silicon Valley. I attended NPower in the past in which I was able to get a job at a Fortune 500 which was truly amazing. Once the pandemic hit I was displaced from work and it became extremely difficult for me to get a job. Given my financial situation and my responsibilities it felt as if I would not be able to advance my career. I then came across the NPower Cyber Security course and felt like it was the right fit for me. Thankfully I was accepted and it has been a real knowledge building program overall, learning not only technical details but also professional communications. All this leading up to the Security+ certification and job placement. I am truly grateful for NPower and the effort all around as well as the opportunity it provides.

I am a returning NPower student after almost 4 years from completing my fundamentals class. I did my internship at Peabody Energy getting real world experience and since then I have been working IT jobs in multiple positions and now returning for career advancement. I served 21 years active duty in the US Army as an Human Resource Manager and a Transportation Coordinator. After active duty, I spent time working as an Access Control Specialist, a Project Coordinator, a Configuration Manager, and my current position as a Quality Assurance Engineer. In my current position I get to see the different opportunities to work in the IT and Cybersecurity industry and I would love to transition into this field. I have a Business and Economics degree as well as Cyber Security Certification from NYU School of Continuing Education program. However, I was looking for another opportunity to gain the knowledge and certification needed to succeed in this industry. I’m glad I found NPower. I have always viewed education as a critical pathway to success. Abdul Khan

Before I joined NPower, I had obtained my Bachelor degree from UK and was working in retail industry. I knew I wanted to be in IT (specifically Cybersecurity) for the outstanding opportunities and broadness of roles available. I also wanted to be in a field what would be future proof and treat me better than other industries I’ve worked in. With NPower I am in processes to acquire my CompTIA Security+ certification. Furthermore, I am learning how to build my professional network with employers, NPower Alumni and my peers. The communication and networking aspects have been the most valuable part of my experience with NPower so far. For my next steps, I’d like to secure an entry level position in the field of Cybersecurity and enhance in on my coding and other technical skills before applying to NPower’s Cloud Computing and get certified with AWS Cloud Practitioner. My long-term goal is to study a Master’s degree in the field of Cybersecurity and get relevant work experience to become CISO at a large corporation.

The guest speakers have allowed me to see firsthand where skill, hard work, and dedication can lead. I have not had the opportunity to be involved in an internship, but I hope to in the near future. My journey with NPower began in 2005 as a homeless teen in NYC. The Technology Service Corp was a life elevating program that launched my career in tech as well as my independence in society. I stayed in the technology field for 9 years thereafter. My transition from technology was a wayward journey into retail. At the time I didn’t understand but it has helped me grow my leadership skills. This year I returned to NPower’s CyberSecurity program to revive my tech career. I am elated to have a second chance to experience the enriching community that NPower has built. I know that I can trust NPower with my future.

Prior to joining NPower, I was a working a taxing and unfulfilling food service job while studying for school with no particular path in mind. Thanks to NPower I was able to land my current job as a Helpdesk Technician via an internship they set up for me after my first graduation from tech fundamentals, and I’ve been thriving ever since. As a returning alumnus, I was extremely excited with what they would have in store for the upcoming semester and thankfully, I was not disappointed. Over the last few weeks in the Spring 2023 Cybersecurity class, I’ve felt that I’ve absorbed a plethora of knowledge from my talented instructors and classmates that I wouldn’t have found elsewhere. I have no doubts that completing this class will lead me to an even brighter future, and for that I have NPower to thank!

I have always been technology driven but during my NPower Advanced Cyber Security program, I have gained a lot of insight in the IT Security world. NPower has tremendously contributed to my technical, social, professional and career development.

NPower has definitely provided me with the necessary tools and preparation I need to succeed and advance in my IT career.

My ultimate goal will be to get the Security+ Certification towards the end of the program.

I give thanks and appreciation to all the crews which includes Tutors, Professional Development team and the Administrative team.

Olabi Animashaun

Majoring in English and minoring in Pre-law, I thought I only had two options after college. Go to Law school and make my parents proud, or get my Masters, PHD and eventually become a professor, but then, I spent my last couple years of college at home, going to class virtually and trying to get used to my new reality. I graduated college in 2021 and I was not sure what path I wanted to take. I was not ready to go back to school to be a Lawyer or to Teach, so I decided to explore other options. I came across NPower without any background in Tech; but I remembered the time I took my laptop apart to fix the cracked screen in 2018. That did not go well because I knew nothing about computers but I was motivated. I wanted to try something new and figure it out. That was what inspired me to apply to Tech Fundamentals in 2021 and it still pushes me today. I served four years active duty and 2 reserve in the US Marine Corps as a Unit Diary/NBC Specialist. After active duty, I spent time working in several administrative positions where I noticed the need for computer skills and literacy was crucial in order to stay relevant in the job market. During my research, I came across the NPower website and decided to look into it. After further investigation of NPower, I discovered that the training program was exactly what I was looking for and more. Quster Bicar is an Software Developer & Network Engineer for Verizon . She is also currently a Cyber Security student at NPower who will be graduating in June 2023 with her Security + Certificate. When she is not working, she spends time volunteering by mentoring inspiring young adults & high schoolers whose interest is in working in Tech. With over 4 years of experience, Quster has performed many other roles including Project Manager for a Superbowl Project. This increased her skill set and gave her several cross-training experience in the organization. She is currently pursuing a Computer Information Systems bachelor’s degree with Pierce College & ultimate goal is to become a cyber security network engineer.

I have my degree in Banking and Finance with extensive hands-on experience in Information Technology spanning over 20 years. I have a track record of exemplary performance in the role of Disaster Recovery Mgt, Business Continuity, Solutions Architecture and currently in Incident Management currently working with MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Agency) as Weekend On Call Manager. I have worked as a Testing Engineer.

I am so glad I found NPower program because I wanted to build up my technical skills in Cyber Security to broaden my horizon in the field of Incident Management and pursue my Security + Certification.

I studied marketing in college before starting a career in Human Resources. I enjoyed recruiting and working on talent acquisition projects. After a company layoff in 2020, I decided to act upon a long-held dream of joining the military. From there, I chose to expand my existing HR skillset into learning technical skills and project management. NPower was the solution to grow from having no formal technical background to gaining foundations and experience in Information Technology. After completing the NPower IT Fundamentals program in Spring 2022, I landed a 6-month apprenticeship where I was immediately immersed in the technical field, benefitted from on-the-job training and professional networking. I could not have imagined a few months prior. Before NPower I attended Harris Stowe State University where I gained an interest in tech. I connected & mentored many of the youth and worked aside faculty in the S.T.E.M program with Verizon Innovative Learning. I’ve always loved Tech but never knew where to start .I joined NPower August of 2022 with no expectations or plans. I figured I would not be able to keep up because I wasn’t as tech savvy as I thought. I proved myself to be wrong because I ended my cohort with everything understood and completed. I loved it so much from the professionalism to the readiness of Our instructor, I wanted to try Cybersecurity. As I expected, NPower has been nothing but a blessing .

Samuel Ajelolu

As an immigrant from Nigeria, I was determined to establish myself in the tech industry and build upon my prior experiences. A friend recommended NPower, a program I was initially skeptical about due to my assumptions that programs and bootcamps of similar durations were costly. However, to my surprise, the program was completely free. I enrolled in the Cybersecurity Tech program and have not regretted a single moment in class. The NPower instructors and staff have been exceptional, always ready to assist and provide guidance. I am extremely grateful for this incredible opportunity and appreciate the support provided by NPower in helping me to get my feet on the ground and start building towards a successful career in tech.

Before starting at NPower, I worked in retail and had just finished a cybersecurity boot camp that provided me with a mentor who gave me some resources that led me to NPower. I was and am currently working on a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity from Bellevue University which is provided to me by my current job as well. I wanted to join NPower as I am trying to transition careers and get into a role that is closer to the degree that I am pursuing in cybersecurity. My time at NPower has provided me with more technical skills, networking, and support that I need to be successful and start my career properly. Upon graduation, I plan to consistently apply myself to learning cybersecurity, applying skills that I learned in the program to my future, and promoting this program to anyone who may be interested. I plan to stay connected to the many people I meet through NPower as well as looking to volunteer in the future.

After graduating college the scope of employment was somewhat limited for me, I taught at different schools and then worked as a translator. I have always wanted to have more diversity and flexibility in my career, which was lacking in my previous lines of work. I have always been interested in learning about cyber security, it has overarching reach into almost every other profession, however, I did not know where to start, that all changed when I attended a speech by Chris Starling, the executive director of NPower California, at my NAVY support center. At first it seemed too good to be true, however, after attending the class it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made. Not only the classes are at no cost to the students, the amazingly dedicated staff at NPower make sure that students have the social support that is needed to complete the course. NPower has thought me the necessary skills that has enabled me to step into the technology realm and has provided me with opportunities that were beyond scope of my reach prior to taking the cyber security courses. Now I feel like I can work in practically every industry and have the diversity and the flexibility that I have longed for.

I am not exaggerating when I say this, NPower has changed my life. Before NPower I did not know what as going to do with my life. I was lost and going through a rough time with a lot of family issues. Then one day a friend of mine introduced me to NPower. That was the day I finally saw a light at the end of the tunnel because when my friend first told me about NPower my first thought this was a perfect program for me, I have always had a passion for computers and am an avid PC gamer who had built PCs before. Now thanks to NPower I can finally make a career out of it. Now that I was able to go though both NPower’s IT fundamental and Cybersecurity program I have to tools in my belt to pursue a career in a field that I am passionate about. I am nothing but grateful to the NPower program and if there’s anyone who was lost like I was with a passion for technology I hope will be lucky enough to find this like I did.

I served seven years of active duty in the Air Force as a Satellite & wideband journeyman exhibiting Solid Technical and leadership skills. After I separated from active duty I worked in various aspects of the communications and electronics field until my life was dramatically altered. I was assaulted and severely injured and became disabled for several years. The road back was long and full of challenges. I found myself working in the food industry in an entry-level position then worked my way up to store manager where I have stayed for over 15 years. Before NPower, I was managing a Restaurant in a small tourist town looking to return to the Tech industry. With the help of NPower, my dreams of returning to the Tech industry have become a reality by obtaining CompTIA Fundamentals and A+ as a foundation then joining advanced training with NPower Cybersecurity. I look forward to utilizing my new skills to advance my career and add services to my newly created business.

I joined the United States Army in 1989, shortly after graduating from high school. After twenty years of service, she retired and launched a small business as a Notary signing service. I joined NPower in order to improve his computer abilities. Shortly after completing the coding cohort, I attended the IT Fundamentals course. I managed to accomplish an internship despite the pandemic. I am newly acquired. technological knowledge left her wanting more, so he enrolled in the local community college to earn a degree in Cybersecurity Information Technology. I have since received his CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification, as well as an ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity. I am currently working towards earning the CompTIA Security+ and EC Council Certified Cybersecurity Technician certifications. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to participate in NPower training and other programs.

NPower has played an extremely valuable and pivotal role in my life and it has contributed to the development of my technical, and professional careers. When I was young I had an extreme interest in computers and different technology. NPower stands on the belief that the harder you work and commit yourself to this program or anything you decide to do in life it will pay off. Due to NPower, I have found the different components to being a successful employee or employer in this field of Information technology. I plan to continue my path with NPower so I may receive my Security+ certifications then I may circle back to get my Network+. I spent 4 ½ years in the Marine Corps out of high school which allowed me to travel quite extensively. When I got out, I returned home and within 2 years decided to give the Navy my time. After my military career I worked in one form or another in the medical industry. Over time I began to realize that it wasn’t quite what I wanted so I was able to have a fellow veteran introduce me to the NPower program and now I am off and running with a pretty exciting IT career. I attended NPower’s ITF program and was able to land a contract position with Truist bank as a helpdesk teammate. I decided to apply to the NPower Cybersecurity program and am currently attending. I am going to get my Sec+ certification and hopefully navigate my way to a position within the government.

Prior to NPower I had separated from my enlistment with the Air Force. After reapplying to school, I was having trouble finding work in a field that I was interested in, and the only way I could leverage my experience in the service was to return to the same job in a civilian role. I was introduced to NPower through a VA newsletter I was subscribed to and figured that would help me get back on track due to the certifications it offers and the skills it could help develop through it’s training. My time at NPower gave me skills that are transferable to multiple industries. After graduation, I hope to continue the pursuit of knowledge and gain experience in the field of cybersecurity.

I have a degree in Business Communications and Graphic Communication. After entering the realm of UIUX design, I taught myself HTML and CSS to bring my designs to life through code. I enrolled in Flatiron School’s Full Stack Development Bootcamp amidst the lockdown in order to upskill and learn more about Software Development. Now, I have had 2 years of experience in software analytics and have even been promoted to senior software analyst through my ability to learn technologies such as Oracle EBS, PLSQL, Oracle DBMS, Java, and more!
