ALUMNI SPEAKER Andrew Holland

New York Tech Fundamentals Spring 2015 | Cloud Summer 2022 Regional Help Desk Manager, Bain Capital After completing NPower, I immediately told my friends and family about the program and told them to sign up so we could grow together. Two of my closest friends signed up right away – one for the Tech Fundamentals program and the other joined ServiceNow. Both now work at Accenture in senior roles. After layoffs at my firm, I felt like I was back at square one, but my friends who had become my support system and now had full-time roles, reminded me of all that I had accomplished and not to lose sight of my goals. Keeping that in mind I only applied for roles that fit my goals until I came across my current one. This brings me to today; I have worked at Bain Capital for the last 6 years and I am the Regional Help Desk Manager for North America.

Aaron Basurto, 26 I heard about NPower through a classmate while taking low voltage cabling courses and planning my next big step in advancing my tech career through continuous learning and curiosity. Learning about network set-up and architecture made me more curious about what exactly I was going to be connecting in offices and apartments in buildings. As I started my learning experience earlier this year, I realized how much some of my favorite passions related to technology in several facets. Great things take time and effort, and NPower allowed me to stay determined in the goals I want to accomplish by giving me the sense of direction and learning how to develop myself professionally in the tech industry. I became connected with people who started out like me but also most importantly, the social support they offer that makes it all possible. With a dedicated team striving for success nothing is impossible.

Aaron Batista, 22 New York, NY

Before joining NPower, I wanted to get my CDL and become a truck driver. I aspired to be in the tech field but didn’t have the guidance on how to start. I learned about NPower and decided to pursue a career in the tech field to be a part of the innovation that’s shaping the world. This program expanded my horizons, provided opportunities I hadn’t imagined before, and allowed me to acquire valuable skills and mentorship. My favorite moments were the many events NPower hosted at large companies, and the laughs I had in class with Giovanny, Lloyd, and my classmates. In a perfect world, the future after NPower involves securing a rewarding job in the tech industry, continuous skill growth, and achieving personal and professional goals. I would tell my younger self that anything I put my mind to, I can accomplish.

LAUNCHING TECH CAREERS.

TRANSFORMING LIVES NPower’s model is a solution to building a diverse tech pipeline. Our graduates launch tech

jobs with an average starting salary of $41,000–$60,000 and are positioned to advance their career path, enabling them to earn more than their peers in lower-wage jobs. Higher earning potential is the key to breaking generational cycles of poverty, positioning our students and their families to achieve long-term economic success.

We are the

FUTURE OF WORK Through partner and tech industry collaboration, our free training model is a workforce development solution for the future. In today’s economy, over 50% of all jobs require some degree of technology and digital skills. We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase in the U.S. to 13 million by 2025, according to a recent Microsoft Data Science report that estimates that digital job capacity. Our graduates of over 8,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 3,000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees. NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities. Part of this goal is supported by our Command Shift Coalition, a national consortium of women and allies that advocate for strategies that invest in and inspire the advancement of young women of color in tech careers and aims to increase the representation of women of color in tech from 5% to 10% over the next 10 years. This coalition was sparked by ‘40 by 22’, a NPower initiative to help young women of color access the skills needed to launch careers in the tech industry in partnership with Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.
