Before NPower, I was going to school for English. What led me down this career was to broaden my knowledge. I chose NPower because it was the right place and the right time. Technology is all we use all the time. NPower has been able to provide me not only with the technical skills to prosper but professional skills as well. Every PD session has given me the chance to create a whole new skill set. I hope my future in NPower can become permanent. I have never seen a team so positive and willing to give us their best each day. The last thing I would tell my younger self is, to stop stressing about the world, just be pure, intentional, and try your best, even when you fail. You will never lose.

Before the program, I was lost, unsure of what career path to pursue. I always had an interest in technology, but I didn’t know where to start or what steps to take. The NPower program provided me with the necessary tools and guidance to gain important professional and technical skills. The program challenged me to push myself beyond what I thought was possible, and I am proud to say that I rose to the challenge through my own efforts and the invaluable support of my technical instructors and classmates. I am very grateful for the opportunity that I was given to attend this program because of the information I learned that I would carry with me for the rest of my professional career. After the program, I am looking forward to getting into the tech industry and growing my skills even further.

Growing up as a Haitian girl, there were only four careers that would make me successful in this world… lawyer, doctor, engineer, or nurse. I thought I was not good enough at one point because I didn’t have a passion for any of those career options. I realized that the majority of the world was doing jobs that they felt would bring massive income. Yes, money is great, but money isn’t the one getting up every day to get to work. I’ve always had a passion for Technology growing up, I was considered the tech girl in my family. Now that I am older, I want to pursue that passion. “You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you,” - Maya Angelou.
Before NPower, I worked as a security guard. I enjoyed my job being in a position where people could come to me for help, but I also felt mentally under-stimulated. I was unsure about what career direction I wanted to go in. I decided to pursue a career in technology because of the stability and diversity of positions in IT. I felt limited by my lack of a college degree, and I wanted to find an organization that acknowledged that comparative lack of access to opportunity. I am grateful to NPower for providing me with support and training in IT. Thanks to NPower, I am motivated even without a college degree. I found mentors and connections to people who were able to work towards fulfilling positions, even if they did not originally have a clear goal of where they wanted their career to go.

Before NPower, my goal was to have a career within healthcare, but I’ve always felt like there had to be a career that was better suited for me. A friend told me about NPower, and I became extremely passionate about momentarily switching lanes and starting my tech journey. To me, NPower means never too late. Many peers in my cohort are older than I am, yet, they still have the same opportunity to become successful. The professional development side of NPower made me look more confident in person and feel more confident during interviews. I learned that, due to my demeanor, I appeared hard to approach. Additionally, though I was not bad during interviews, improvements were needed, being more concise with my answers and more confident with myself. In the future, I see myself successfully working at a FAANG company. If I were to have any superpower, it would be superspeed.
Prior to NPower, I only had experience in game tech, virtual machines, customer service, and Java. Since my time at NPower, I have been able to obtain a Google Coursera Certification. Thanks to NPower, I will be able to utilize my skills and gain more knowledge to reach my tech goals.

Before NPower, I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to take in life. I knew that I had a passion for technology but didn’t really know where to start. I had just finished an internship at the Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation, and I didn’t know what was next for me, but I was eager to find out. A staff member, Ms. Graves, referred me to NPower to pursue my tech career, and in that moment, I knew it was time to take a chance again because what’s life without risks? I realized now that this was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I know that this program has changed the trajectory of my life for the better, and I couldn’t be happier. NPower isn’t just a non-profit organization, they’re a group of dedicated and sophisticated individuals looking to better represent those that are underrepresented.

Prior to NPower, I was a college student majoring in psychology to obtain my Bachelor’s degree. While in college, I started to work for a company as an IT Technician, actively learning new skills and getting trained on the job as I’ve never had any IT knowledge previously. This is what sparked my interest in pursuing a career in IT and gave me that drive to learn more and obtain certifications to launch my tech career. I saw NPower as the best way to earn the proper skillset and certifications I needed without having to put myself in more debt. While at NPower, I’ve had endless opportunities to grow my confidence, skillset, professional knowledge, and IT knowledge I was hoping to gain. Thanks to the endless support from the staff and my classmates, I am excited as ever for my life after NPower.

Before joining NPower, I wasn’t sure what my next steps in life were. I felt disoriented. After learning about NPower, I decided to take action in my life and try to do something I loved, which was computers. During NPower, I found my love and passion for tech began to blossom not only in class but also in the friendships that I’ve gained throughout the course as well. In a perfect world, I will still be connected to NPower and furthering my career in the tech field while keeping in contact with the people I’ve met throughout the course.
Before NPower, I was looking for an opportunity in the field. But I didn’t know how to get into the technology industry. I needed a guide, something I could grow into and be ready for an entry-level. That’s when I found NPower. They’ve shown us what we need to do to enter the field of technology. NPower staff has helped me learn professional skills and professional communication. Now I understand my capabilities and potential to grow in my life and career.

Before NPower, I had little idea of what I wanted to pursue in my career. I had an innate interest in computers, and I was recommended to the program by a family member. I joined the program, initially determined to see it through. That had changed due to some unresolved conflict happening within my home. I was let go from the program due to my inability to participate sufficiently. However, NPower allowed me a second chance, understanding my predicament. With that, I gained a significant amount of not only technical knowledge but professional guidance on how to conduct myself in an orderly way within the workplace. Through NPower and its nurturing environment, I was allowed the opportunity to expand the approaching horizon within my tech career.

Growing up, I always wanted to be a basketball star or a boxer. I aspire to make a difference in the lives of people. My curiosity and interest led me to explore tech. I chose NPower due to its positive reviews and flexibility. NPower, to me, is a program that changes lives and gives opportunities for individuals to advance in a tech career. BNY Mellon stood out to me because we were amongst our peers, made connections, and got to pick the brain of employees. I have benefited from the professional development program. It’s helped me obtain valuable skills. After NPower, I see myself having a career in the tech industry with a reputable company, utilizing my skills to earn a good salary and keep growing. If I could have one superpower, I would like to see things before they happen so I could avoid mistakes.

Prior to NPower, I was a recent graduate of Suny Old Westbury, unsure of what was next in my career. Not having much guidance or mentorship, I was eager to find something or someone that could put me in the right direction. Social media was a driving force in my decision to pursue tech. After having a conversation with a few of my friends in the industry, I encountered NPower. This opportunity was just what I was looking for and has given me the confidence and training required of me to be successful in this industry. Through NPower, I was able to become certified in CompTIA 1101,1102, revamp my resume, engage in interview prep, and much more. NPower has given me the tools to be successful and the networking skills to push myself further in the tech industry.
Destin Nealy 26, Harlem, NY
Before NPower, I was indecisive about my career. Although I graduated college, studying a specialty in software development, I ended up working in a high school and was going to pursue a career in education. However, it did not feel right. Part of me still wanted a career in tech, and then my friend told me about NPower. What drove me to NPower were four key things; classmates looking to pursue similar goals, professors to guide me through the course, career guidance, and it is a program to support the minority community. NPower has opened a door that I believed to be closed and brought back confidence I believed to be lost, allowing me to pursue a career in technology confidently. If I could have any power, it would be to mimic other superpowers because then I could have any and/or every superpower.

Before NPower, I spent several years in the media, marketing/advertisement field, then made a choice that I wanted to get into the tech field doing cybersecurity. I found NPower while looking for specific cybersecurity programs online, but they all had a high price tag which was too much for me at the time. I also realized I needed to start somewhere in tech first, and while looking through the NPower website, I noticed they were a great program for me to start building a foundation. NPower became like a family for me, and everyone was supportive and thoughtful. I am extremely grateful and appreciative for this program allowing me to obtain my CompTIA A+ certification and equipping me with the skills to start my journey in cybersecurity. I am excited to see what the future holds!

Before NPower, I was a high school graduate with no clue about what I wanted my future to look like. After getting my first job, I realized I enjoyed helping people while also having a lifelong interest in gaming and tech. About a year later, my friend became aware of my hobbies, including gaming/computers, and recommended that I apply for NPower. To me, NPower means a way forward as an individual who is introverted. NPower has given me the chance to go for opportunities and set goals that I wouldn’t have sought otherwise. I am truly grateful for everything NPower has given me. If I could choose one superpower, it would be the ability to speed up and slow down time because it would help me during sticky or stressful situations.

Before joining NPower, I was lost. I had recently graduated from college, where I studied web development. I had some technical skills and projects to show for, but no direction. I just knew that I needed something more in order to succeed. Then, a friend told me about NPower and that it was a great opportunity, and I now cannot agree with that friend more. Not only has NPower taught me valuable technical skills that will allow me to get my foot in the door of the tech industry, but NPower has also taught me how to become a real professional. I have learned how to showcase my talents professionally through resume building and email writing. I have also learned how to network professionally through the amazing networking events put together by NPower. NPower was what I needed to jumpstart my career, and I could not be more grateful.

I joined NPower while attending college. While it wasn’t easy to juggle between the two, it was definitely doable. While still attending college, I had no sense of direction. NPower was able to fill that gap and further sharpen my existing technical skills while introducing me to new concepts and other skills.

As a recent graduate with a degree in Computer and Technology, I want to apply my skills and knowledge in this role. During my time in college, I gained valuable experience in hardware and software, which I believe will be beneficial. I am excited to continue learning and growing in this program and to gain hands-on experience. Outside of my academic and professional pursuits, I enjoy traveling and cooking, and I am always looking for ways to make a positive impact in my community. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this program and to collaborate with a talented team of professionals. I look forward to contributing to the success of the organization and learning as much as I can.
My aspiration before NPower was to become a data analyst. I worked to secure an apprenticeship to equip myself with the skills and learned that it wasn’t for me. However, that apprenticeship opened my eyes to technology and the different pathways that it offers. A colleague in that program told me about NPower after I expressed interest in IT. I loved NPower’s mission to serve underserved communities and change lives. It’s unbelievable that this program is free and all the teachers care about our success. This program has taught me not to give up and that anything is possible if you work hard. In a perfect world, my future after NPower would look like an advancing and growing career in tech with a supportive network behind me. Failure does not define you. Giving up does.

Before NPower, I had a passion for art. When it was time to apply to college, I, unfortunately, did not have enough financial aid. I was disappointed but understood it must be put on the back burner for now. While at home, a friend of mine was attending NPower. After a while of thinking about what I could do now, I decided to apply. I chose NPower to help understand tech and to branch into the career world by having varying technical skills. I learned that UX Design is both technological and artistry combined. During my time at NPower, I have learned more about myself. Before, I had plenty of doubts and fears about my capabilities. But now I know my own worth, and the fear I used to initially feel being in new situations has diminished. I am looking forward to where this program will lead me next.
When I was little, I wanted to be a game designer. I love the world of video games, the storytelling, and always wondered how they work. This was actually one of my first steps toward going into the world of technology. Before NPower, I wanted to be a game programmer. I wanted to create something that people had never seen before. Technology makes the impossible happen, and I wanted to learn more about it and how it operates. That is why I joined NPower. One of my favorite projects was when we used virtual machines and adjusted specific settings. This helped me realize that IT is not hard if you focus on the objective. After NPower, I hope to have a good-paying job to help my family succeed financially.

My experience with NPower has been fundamentally challenging overall yet overwhelmingly accomplished. With the help of deeply knowledgeable instructors, a class that cares about each other, and the progress that everyone is making, has made my time spent learning from NPower worth it. Most learning courses today mostly focus on what a person can retain or memorize and never really learn. NPower, on the other hand, has been the exact opposite. The class time and instruction are extremely valuable, and the knowledge that I have taken away from its generous provisions will carry with me for the rest of my life and into my new career in IT. I thank NPower for its excellent training and instructors for making these four months worth every minute.

I always wanted to pursue a career in tech, but after earning a degree in criminal justice, I thought it was too late. However, as I saw little progress in my current career, my ambition to pursue a tech career persisted. That’s when I discovered NPower, an IT development program that exceeded my expectations. From my class instructors to the professional development team, everyone helped me improve my technical skills for the field, including my professional skills in communication and teamwork. Attending networking events and seeing people who are where I dreamt of being before starting the program made me grateful that I joined NPower. As Nelson Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Now, armed with the skills and experience from NPower, I am excited to become a leader in the cybersecurity field.

Before NPower, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field; thus, I went to college and graduated with a bachelor’s in science major. However, I’ve always had a love for technology due to high school exposing me to coding and computer hardware. It sparked another passion for me to pursue tech, though I did not know how to go about it. That is where NPower came in. They guided us and gave us great opportunities. We have gained a plethora of technical and interpersonal skills that increased my confidence. I will combine my knowledge of science and skills gained in this program to excel. I look forward to what is next to come with NPower.
I graduated high school at the start of Covid 19, not knowing what my future would look like. I worked as a concierge for a year at high-end buildings and felt unfulfilled. As a result, I was motivated to want more of myself and my future. I re-enrolled back into college to pursue further education in tech and sought further opportunities to expand in my field. I used my college resources, and it led me to discover NPower.
NPower encapsulated everything I was looking for. After experiencing the rigorous interview process, I understood the value of the program and what it provides for its applicants. The training and preparation the whole team provides are difficult but also rewarding.
I would like to thank NPower for providing me with this opportunity. I also want to thank my colleagues for the invaluable support and staff for ensuring the success of my generation.

During NPower, there was a standalone project that challenged me. We learned the basic concepts of setting up a SOHO Router, and this would simulate actually configuring a network that would also connect to a server. This would be the first time for me to work with Cisco Packet Tracer, and with trial and error, I successfully configured a domain and a server. This challenged my adaptability with programs and my ability to research and furthered my understanding of problem-solving. There is nothing wrong with asking questions, especially if you do not know the answer immediately.
All throughout my childhood, all I ever wanted to be was a nurse. I saw the tech industry as a new fresh start for me. A while back, my friend found out about the program, and he recommended it to me. NPower is a breath of fresh air and a second chance at life for me, to be totally honest. One of my favorite moments has to be when we went to BNY Mellon; being able to talk to people in this field and to pick their brains on the knowledge and experience of a tech worker was priceless. When I graduate, my goal is to build my own cybersecurity systems. One thing that I would tell my younger self is that no matter what paths in life I take, it will all lead to the same place of success.

Growing up, I was dedicated to becoming a professional soccer player. But being able to help solve tech-related issues for my relatives and other neighbors at a young age helped me maintain a strong foundation in tech. This led me to pursue a degree in computer science. Currently, I am working on my bachelor’s in computer science while also pursuing the CompTIA A+ certification at NPower. NPower introduced me to what it is like to be an IT professional and provided me with many resources to make sure I have everything I need to succeed in my career. I’ve been able to take advantage of various opportunities from NPower and participated in various engineering organizations and events. I am very eager to keep learning and start my journey in the tech field.

Before NPower, I had plans of becoming a finance major since there were family friends who were also finance majors, and a job was all but guaranteed for me. As the semesters passed, I realized college wasn’t for me, and my brain turned on autopilot. I dropped out halfway through a semester and was lost. That’s when I saw a post on Reddit from an NPower alumni, encouraging as many people in NYC to join the program. His story seemed extremely similar to mine, so I went ahead and applied to the program. Fast forward seven months since my application, and I could not be more thankful. The content I learned in the 16-week program stuck with me more than two years of traditional college. I look forward to enjoying my future in tech rather than something I do not have a passion for.

I wanted to be in the IT field when I grew up, but somehow, I ended up in Civil Engineering. I still had that burning passion for technology, I feel more comfortable troubleshooting computers and finding solutions. I was looking for an online class to learn IT that fit my work schedule, and my sister sent me an NPower link then I knew it was fate. One of my favorite projects was installing the virtual machine and changing the settings by only using the command prompt. The professional development sessions are a great help with resumes and networking to help me secure a job. Thank you so much, NPower, for the great opportunity.
I was never one for college. I went for two semesters, but I wound up feeling that I’d lost more than I gained. I felt that I’d lost time that could have been used to learn the computer skills I wanted. That’s where NPower comes in. NPower was the direct path into IT that I’ve been looking for.
Between NPower’s direct teaching of IT skills, instructors who ensure the material is understood by all, and peers pursuing goals similar to mine, NPower was the clear choice when I decided I wanted to pursue an education in one of the world’s greatest industries again. NPower is the course of action I would recommend to anyone seeking a career in IT, especially among my peers of color who may feel that such an education is out of their reach.

I have always been interested in Tech but knew only the basics. NPower helped me to expand my basic knowledge in the tech field. They helped me improve my Technical and Professional skills. I now feel that I am well equipped and ready for this field, and looking forward to starting my career path after graduation.
Prior to NPower, I was an after-school teacher. I was on my way to becoming a dance specialist. During this time, I lost two family members, making me realize that life is short. I loved working with the kids, but I wanted something more for me. Technology has been a big part of my life, considering my nickname in my house was the electronic killer. So I figured I should step into a career in it. That’s when I discovered the amazing opportunity of NPower from a friend. I ended up applying, and the rest is history. As a graduate, I hope to use my new technical skills as well as my soft skills to be a great addition to any team. Thank you, NPower, for giving me this chance to grow.

When I graduated from High School, I was confused about what I wanted to do next in my life. I started researching different career options, and I came across NPower. NPower provided me with an amazing opportunity to learn more about tech, and the program also provided me with many resources that will be beneficial for me in the future. NPower made me realize what I want to do for the rest of my life as a career.
As a recent immigrant to the United States, I struggled to get my professional career back on track. Despite my interest in technology and previous experience in the field, adapting to a new environment was challenging. A family friend introduced me to NPower, whose values and guidance for trainees resonated with me.
NPower’s program exemplifies its values of impact, commitment, integrity, diversity, and humility. When I reflect on NPower, words like “life-changing,” “camaraderie,” and “honesty” come to mind. Participating in NPower was a phenomenal experience, and I am proud to be part of an organization dedicated to giving back to the community.
As I graduate, I am grateful for the knowledge and opportunities NPower provided me. I am confident that the skills I have gained will serve me well in my future endeavors. I look forward to contributing to the tech industry with my newfound expertise and perspective.

Before NPower, I wanted to become a nurse to make a difference in people’s lives. However, after working in the healthcare industry for five years, I realized it wasn’t for me. I discovered the potential of the tech industry through TikTok and found it intriguing. After researching programs, I found NPower, which impressed me with its mission and supportive community. NPower has transformed me by providing technical skills, professional development, and mentorship. Networking was a standout moment during the program, opening my eyes to new possibilities. After completing the program, I hope to work in a tech role, continuing to learn and grow while prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion. If I could have one superpower, it would be teleportation to explore new places and cultures.
During the duration of NPower, the skills I learned and the relationships I’ve acquired are second to none. The Tech Fundamentals program at NPower greatly expanded my knowledge of technology and allowed me to feel comfortable securing a job in IT in the future. Before the program, growing up with a love for technology, my dream job was to be able to work with computers and the ever-expanding field of tech, but now that dream is much closer to reality because of this program.

At a very young age, my desire was to be an actor. Eventually, as I matured, I realized that being an actor was not really for me. It became a point in my life where I did not know where I was heading until my sophomore year in high school. It was during this time a friend of mine was into software engineering and using Python. This is what initially sparked my interest in pursuing a tech career, even if it was not exactly being a software engineering major. Now, why NPower? When I first did my research on NPower, I realized how much of a golden opportunity the organization provides for young adults. Knowing this, I decided it was a great idea to take full advantage of this opportunity and launch my tech career. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the staff that made all this possible.

From youth to adulthood, I’ve been a man of many hats. My interests range from natural sciences, finances, martial arts to arts. However, I have always been a student of the tech industry. While I will always be a ‘student,’ great minds never stop learning and reflecting. My time at NPower gave me the tools, knowledge, and confidence I need to move ahead. As a trainee, NPower has proved its exceptional reputation. I’ll forever be grateful and think fondly of my experiences with the Tech Fundamentals course from the staff, instructors, and all my classmates. I’ve learned so many things, not just about IT, via our CompTIA or Google training, but via our Professional Development sessions as well. I hope to further my knowledge and career in the IT world and potentially return to NPower for their Cybersecurity course.
Before NPower, I was in college trying to find my way into the tech field, and within a few months, I learned that it wasn’t for me. All my life, I have been surrounded and intrigued by technology and all the new advancements that came with it. Until it finally hit me, I helped my family every day with technical complications around the household. Fixing wi-fi, connecting devices, you name it, I did it. This is when I finally knew what I wanted to do with my life. I began to search for all kinds of programs, but the prices were too high. I found NPower and never thought I would hear the word free! This program helped turn my life around and put me on a path to start my career in tech and do what I love.

I had plans to attend nursing school, but then I soon realized it wasn’t for me. I felt extremely hopeless because I wasn’t sure what career path I wanted to take. Technology has always been something I found very interesting, and I am usually the one in my family who takes on any kind of technical troubleshooting. After realizing I wanted to start a career in IT, I began my search for IT boot camps, and that’s when I discovered NPower. I have learned more than I ever expected in areas of technology and also in professional development. The instructors and professional development team have been a great support system and have always pushed us trainees to go beyond our full potential. I am ready to start my IT career because of the training I’ve received from NPower.

I started my training with NPower in February 2023, not knowing that it would be one of the best decisions of my life. When I joined NPower, I knew absolutely nothing about technology, only the certainty that this program would make a big difference in my life. At this point in my process with NPower, if I could say something to that person who started this in February, I would tell them everything will be fine. You are going to be persistent, and you are going to take away incredible knowledge. Keep moving forward. There is no reason to fear. Sometimes we must fall to get stronger. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity with God’s help hoping to have wonderful opportunities in the world of IT. Thank you very much, NPower, for this wonderful opportunity and for this great knowledge that will carry with me wherever I am.

From the start of this journey at NPower, everything has been a rollercoaster from technology to professionalism. I thought I knew what technology was capable of, but when I got to the program, my whole perspective on technology changed. Starting the program, I felt like I didn’t know anything, simply because there was so much information coming my way that I wasn’t aware of at the time. But with all that information came great instructors that made sure I understood everything that was thrown at me. Before NPower, I did some college but always felt like I was supposed to be doing something different.
Starting with NPower felt normal as if this was where I was meant to be from the beginning. At the end of this journey, I see a bright future for myself, and I owe that to NPower and their amazing staff.

As a Vincentian American and first-generation college student, I was eager to break into the Tech industry but felt uncertain about my future prospects. With no guarantee of finding work after graduation, I began searching for programs to upskill and enhance my technical abilities. Fortunately, my supervisor, an NPower alum, recommended the organization to me. Thanks to NPower, I not only developed my technical skills but also nurtured my professional and personal growth. I am grateful to the patient instructors who guided me through the program and for the connections I made. As a graduate of NPower, I feel confident and well-prepared to pursue my career aspirations in the Tech industry. I am excited to see where my new skills and experiences will take me, and I will always be thankful for the valuable support and opportunities provided by NPower.
Before NPower, I was working part-time in a nonprofit organization for many years. I knew that staying on a part-time job was not ideal but did not know what paths to take moving forward. Then I heard about NPower through my friends who previously attended the program. They talked about the knowledge and skills gained through the program that helped them gain a career in the tech field. That is when I decided to break out of my comfort zone and grasp the opportunity at hand. NPower provided a lot of helpful resources and skill sets that allowed me to plan for future career paths. I am thankful to NPower for providing the opportunity to help me grow as an IT professional. I look forward to utilizing the knowledge learned and developing new skills in the ever-growing tech field.

Standing steadfast in the face of adversity builds resilience and resolve. If this had been presented to me years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to comprehend the meaning to its fullest extent. Being the first generation in my family of immigrants to attend college exposed me to opportunities I never knew existed, which my family was not offered. This often led me throughout my life to face many trials and tribulations for which I had no one with similar experiences to ask for guidance. Learning how to navigate school, and multiple jobs with no guidance and limited resources really helped shape me into the person I am today. I learned about NPower from a close friend who encouraged me to pursue my passion for technology. The staff who constantly pushed me to do my best and obtain the certifications really helped me understand what path to take towards a career in IT.
Hey there! My name is Beciere Alcindor, and I come from Haiti. I have always been the go-to tech person in my family, which is why pursuing a career in IT was an obvious choice for me. After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Alfred State College, I decided to switch gears and focus on my passion for technology. That is when I found NPower, a free program that helped me make the change. I am thrilled to see where this career path takes me, and I am grateful for the opportunity that NPower provided, especially since other programs were charging over $10000.

After graduating from high school in 2019, I decided to go straight into college. However, after taking some classes, I realized that I didn’t find anything interesting and couldn’t make it through with those big textbooks. I decided to start working, but with the minimum wage, I was not able to survive. Technology is always something that I enjoy, which made my cousin realize that I was good at it. She told me about the NPower program, which she attended. Joining the program was the best opportunity that I’ve had. The NPower team is always there to guide and motivate you. It has made me grow as a person, being able to overcome my weaknesses, which I am truly grateful for. With this new knowledge in technology, I hope to start working in the IT environment and show off the skills that NPower has taught me.
“When all doors close, look for the window!” For years I watched opportunities fall out of my grasp, and I thought, at a certain point, I would be done for. I worked many dead-end jobs, I started a catering business but had issues elevating it, and it felt like the doors were closing. Then I was presented with a window, something I had never thought to make an opportunity of, and I joined NPower on a whim. It was my first time doing anything tech-related beyond helping my mom reset her password or “fix the internet” for her, but the ball started rolling. Shortly after that, I was first in my class awarded Student of the Month, then first to pass the exam, and the fruits of my labor began to blossom. I can only imagine what’s next, but I know it’s only up from here!

The technological field’s unlimited growth possibilities are what initially drew me towards pursuing this career path. I have exceptional communication and customer service skills, which also evoked my need to search for a professional endeavor that provided an opportunity to assist others as well. My time in the NPower program expanded this aspiration throughout my experience, especially learning how to deal with troubleshooting issues. Along with that, the professional development opportunities really furnished my communication skills regarding intermingling with colleagues. These professional development skills prove the importance of networking to foster a successful career. Following my experience at NPower, I hope to find a steady work environment that provides ample room for growth. Primarily, I am hopeful of gaining a professional endeavor that bestows opportunities to continue to adapt my professional and technical skills. The technological field is an exciting chance to engage in new learning opportunities.
I found out about NPower by working at their fundraising gala at Casa Cipriani. I’m the doorman at their South Street location, but I picked up a serving shift at the Wall Street property. A brother named Cameron Clarke gave a speech that moved me. He spoke of hardship and persevering through it with the help of NPower. He reached a point that he thought was unattainable. The power to do so was in him. NPower helped him realize that. I found the NPower table and introduced myself nervously. I asked what I had to do to be a part of this organization. She asked me a couple of questions, and I answered. She remarked, “You qualify! You should send in an application.” The rest is history. All luck is opportunity meeting preparation, and I’ve been preparing my whole life for this. See you at the top.

Being a community college student majoring in computer science, I knew the opportunities wouldn’t be as easy as a 4- year student, especially being a part of a minority group. Then I found NPower, and they gave me the opportunity to become a better IT technician as well as giving me fundamentals on how to be a professional. NPower has taught me to be disciplined and confident. Most of all, I really appreciate the community I have found through NPower.
I’m Daniel Wallace, and I have over a decade of experience working as an educator with at-risk youth and special needs children. My passion for coding led me to build my own website and join the NPower program to advance my career in IT. NPower helped unlock the CEO within me, and I’m now dedicated to using technology to make a positive impact on the lives of young people.

Prior to NPower, I finished university with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and worked a few customer service jobs. For my career, I had no idea where I wanted to go next and all I knew was that I wanted to work in an industry that would allow me to learn, be creative, and help others continuously. Luckily, I was introduced to NPower through my cousin, and after doing some personal research about the program, it felt like the perfect next step for me in my career journey. NPower not only gave me technical skills for the technology world but also career guidance, professional skills, and a community I can rely on. Before NPower, I was working a dead-end job at an ice cream parlor. I felt like time was passing me by, and friends and family members were progressing, as I was stagnant. I chose NPower because it makes a group of individuals who don’t feel like they have a shot in life and give it to them. Without our Professional Development instructors, I would not have found the unprofessional tendencies I used not to be aware of. In a perfect world, after NPower, I can’t wait to work in an office where everyone has a purpose and loves to do what they do. My name is Faith, and I am a young black woman. I was born and raised in NYC, where I grew up in a single-parent home. My father always emphasized the importance of education and how important it is to have a plan. Growing up, I often felt like I had to navigate multiple identities and expectations as a black person, a woman, a member of a particular social and economic class, and a commitment to being the best I can be. Around the time I applied to NPower, I did not know what I was going to do. I had no clear path or goal. NPower gave me a platform to not only be all I can be but also gave me the knowledge to pursue my goal of breaking into tech. I want to thank the organization for believing in me and for the knowledge.

That is where NPower comes in. I chose NPower because it had all the resources that I needed to succeed in the tech world, from having professional development instructors that have taught me to make connections with people that have been in my shoes, each with their own stories to success, to being able to meet my classmates and new lifelong friends that push each other to get through this chapter in life. In a perfect world after NPower, I see myself surrounded by amazing people in an office working for a big IT company knowing that my current struggles were all worth it.

Before being accepted into NPower, I was lost regarding what I needed to do in my career path. After graduating high school, I wanted to study in the medical field, but it didn’t turn out as I wanted. That’s when my high school teacher recommended me to NPower; it opened my eyes to a new fresh start. NPower welcomed me and other applicants with open arms and helped us in any need. There aren’t enough words to say about how much NPower can change someone’s life. In a perfect world, I plan on being financially stable and giving anyone the help they need without worrying about the cost. The superpower I would want is teleportation; it would allow me to get to places faster. I would tell my younger self, “ You will be okay and to just live in the moment.”
Born in New York to a humble home in Queens, I have been through ups and downs. Before NPower, I had dreams of owning my own business somewhere in the entertainment industry. I still do want those things. However, as the world changes, I knew I needed to bolster my knowledge in the technology industry which is rapidly growing and becoming more and more relevant. NPower was recommended to me by a friend whose services changed his life, and with these last 16 weeks, I see how. The knowledge and skills I gained will follow and help me as I continue to grow and make my goals a reality. This time has been an important challenge to me and marks a benchmark of my professional development as I look toward the future.

Before NPower, I was trying to figure out my next career path. For a few months, I felt stuck because I didn’t know what to do or what career path I should take. One day after having a conversation with a friend that’s in the field of technology, I realized that was the change I needed. One of my close friends told me about NPower and how helpful it can be. The NPower program far exceeded my expectations. The program had so much to offer, from how to be a professional to how to network and build your resume. I look forward to applying what I’ve learned during my time with NPower in my future IT Career.
Growing up, computers and how they affected our lives interested me, and this set me up on this career path in tech. As an immigrant, it has been hard for me to find headway while job-searching. A friend suggested the NPower program, and I decided to just “try it out.” NPower made me recollect most of the knowledge already depleted since college. Also, learning with people determined as I am, gives me a well-needed boost to keep on. One of my favorite moments with NPower was when we met at Dumbo for the very first time, and this is one aspect I did not expect to gain a lot from. PD sessions literally get me hyped for when I eventually receive an offer. After NPower, I want to be able to help people with a background like mine to get a foot in the door.

Before NPower, life felt like an hourglass at the peak of its last seconds. My destination to success was far-off from where I was. However, I was told about the NPower organization by my mother. All the troubleshooting issues I’d resolve for my family and a desire for problem-solving sold me. While with NPower, I am grateful for many opportunities. A ton of support was put behind all of us. I also gained technical skills, professional skills, and communication skills. NPower taught me how to write a well-written resume and the importance of becoming a professional young man. Growing up, my parents said that I could be anything I wanted to be, so I knew without a doubt I could. I decided I was going to be a comic book artist, biologist, and Pro wrestler. Getting older showed me without confidence, a support system, or just a really strong foundation, you are not going to get far. This mentality led me to constantly work at minimum wage jobs. I decided I needed an opportunity that could teach me something valuable so I could grow and support my loved ones. That is when I found NPower. I applied on a whim, expecting to be rejected because of my lack of experience. I was accepted and continue to be accepted by many in the program. In the short time I have been in the program, I have learned so much, from professional skills to the technical skills necessary for my future.
Having a career, I was not passionate about and starting over seemed impossible until I found NPower. It was here that I built the courage to pursue my real interests and immerse myself in the world of Tech. Throughout my journey, I realized a few things, NPower is greater than just an educational program. You will rebuild and rebrand yourself professionally. You will not only expand your professional network but establish lifelong friendships. Most significantly, through hard work and dedication, the world you desire can be won. I am thrilled to start my career in Technology. Thank you, NPower, for not only providing a solid educational foundation but for the monumental support throughout the way.

Talking about yourself always ends up being one of the hardest things to do on command, but I believe it’s because of how we view ourselves. After all, we do judge ourselves the most. Before NPower, I recently got back on my feet, working hard just to maintain my position. NPower is an opportunity that I felt could change my life, and being able to experience it all has been the best part. NPower has helped me implement my professionalism at my job. Going from an associate to manager has been a goal I wanted to achieve this year, in addition to being an NPower trainee. NPower has given me the confidence to continue my journey and never give up. I’ll leave you with something my friend and I discussed with our classmates, never say “I can’t” because if you do, you’ve already given up on yourself.

Through the NPower program, I was able to gain valuable experience, knowledge, and additional opportunities towards the proper certificates to get started in the IT field. Aside from this professional success that I’ve achieved, I plan to continue to inspire the younger generation with my commitment, my passion and excel beyond.

As a child, I initially wanted to be an astronaut. However, as I got older, I became interested in technology. I was captivated by the way computers and smartphones could connect people from all over the globe, transforming the way we work, learn, and communicate. I chose NPower because I was looking for an institution that offered a rigorous academic program in tech. Since enrolling, I have been able to grow academically, personally, and professionally. The instructors and professional development team have been pivotal in my growth. After NPower, I want to further my career in technology by becoming a cyber security specialist in the future. If I had one superpower, it would be the ability to turn back time. Not to change my past nor alter my decisions but to re-experience the most joyous moments in my life.

Thankfully, through a friend, I was able to discover the NPower program. NPower offered a free IT training course for people like me. Hi, I’m Nasseim Abdallah, a 21-year-old male born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. From a young age, I’ve shown an interest in Computer hardware and IT. I excelled in learning and discovering throughout high school, earning top grades, and receiving recognition for my accomplishments. After graduating from Edward R Murrow High School, I decided to attend Kingsborough community college, where I pursued Computer Information Systems. While in school, I participated in clubs, common hobbies, and content creation and decided that college wasn’t the right way for me. However, after hearing very highly of NPower from a friend, I decided it was time to get my foot in the door and try it out. As of writing this, I have completed the first test for the CompTIA A+ exam. Thank you, NPower, for your dedication, learning through my peers, and connecting with many companies, such as BNY Mellon.

Growing up, I thought I wanted to become a chef, or teacher, but in reality, I just looked at the people around me who were passionate about what they wanted to accomplish. Even though I was clueless about what to do, I loved working with people and had a great ability to speak to and help those around me. Tech also became another one of my strong suits, so I applied to college, majoring in computer science. Being there, I didn’t feel the passion I remember everyone showing years and years ago, so I knew it wasn’t for me. I then worked odd jobs, only to find out that path was also not going to lead me anywhere. Then, promptly...boom, NPower. A direct path to my future right ahead.
This all started one day when my sister’s husband, an NPower Alum and considered family to me, recommended I enter this program. If you have siblings, you know listening to them isn’t the easiest, but this time was different. I took his advice and applied to NPower, forging a new career path. Halfway through the program, I can now confidently say that the CPU in a computer is the IT equivalent of saying the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. I have grown in my knowledge about the developing world of technology and become a young professional. I met classmates that turned into friends, alumni who turned into role models, and instructors who turned into reality TV gossip buddies. Special shoutout to Chris, the Brooklyn AM class, and the PD team. It has truly been an honor working together. Thank you, NPower, for this life-changing opportunity!

This program has helped me open my eyes to the many opportunities in the tech field and, most of all, has helped me grow as a person and tech professional. I am excited and super ready to embark on this journey in the tech field.

Before NPower, I went to college for Computer Science and never viewed IT as a potential career. But after gaining some job experience in the IT field, I wanted to go down a different path. I didn’t want to go to college again, so I searched for various options, and that was when I found NPower. The pacing of this program was perfect as I wanted to shift my career quickly. NPower provided the opportunity for me to advance toward becoming an IT professional. Although this was only the first step, the foundation that I’ve built at NPower has given me the knowledge to move forward with confidence.

LAUNCHING TECH CAREERS TRANSFORMING LIVES
NPower’s model is a solution to building a diverse tech pipeline. Our graduates launch tech jobs with an average starting salary of $41,000–$60,000 and are positioned to advance their career path, enabling them to earn more than their peers in lower-wage jobs. Higher earning potential is the key to breaking generational cycles of poverty, positioning our students and their families to achieve long-term economic success.
80% Of students who enroll graduate Of alumni get jobs or continue their education
(Based on NPower’s national data)
WE ARE THE FUTURE OF WORK
Through partner and tech industry collaboration, our free training model is a workforce development solution for the future. In today’s economy, over 50% of all jobs require some degree of technology and digital skill. We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase in the U.S. to 13 million by 2025, according to a recent Microsoft Data Science report that estimates that digital job capacity.
Our graduates of over 6,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 3,000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees. NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities. Part of this goal is supported by our Command Shift Coalition, a national consortium of women and allies that advocate for strategies that invest in and inspire the advancement of young women of color in tech careers and aims to increase the representation of women of color in tech from 5% to 10% over the next 10 years. This coalition was sparked by ‘40 by 22’, a NPower initiative to help young women of color access the skills needed to launch careers in the tech industry in partnership with Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.
