C lass Speaker The NPower program has been a great resource for professional networking and gaining greater knowledge in the IT field. Prior to joining NPower’s Data Analytics Program featuring Splunk, I had previously obtained certifications from CompTIA in A+ | Network+ | Security+ from the Stride Center where I currently volunteer as part of the Alumni Leadership Council. Additionally, I was an intern with Workday where I was on boarded via their “Military Veteran Career Accelerator Program | SOC Analyst | Intern” where I worked from February 2017 – July 2017. I have great aspirations in a cyber-security career. With the Splunk Power User certification, along with my CompTIA certifications and experience in security with Workday, I’m sure to make this goal a reality. I also look forward to giving back by: helping NPower students, continuing to volunteer, and being a positive force in the Veteran community. Moreover, I also written a piece on LinkedIn for active-dutypersonnel and veterans interested in the Cyber Security field.

r e k a e p S i n m u l A I joined NPower in January 2016. I first completed my CompTIA A+ certification and ServiceNow Certified Administrator as well as receiving the Workday Performance Award. The skills I learned were first utilized at an internship at Robert Half in the Change Management department. This experience was invaluable. I returned to NPower in September 2016 to receive my ITIL Foundation certification. Since then, I have volunteered as a teaching assistant, and later enrolled once again as a student, achieving the Splunk User and Power User certifications. NPower has helped me with resume writing and enhanced my soft skills that were so valuable at Robert Half and beyond. The NPower staff has supported and assisted me in every way possible, and I am truly grateful. When the opportunity arose to become the interim instructor for this graduating class I gladly accepted, and could not be happier.

Job in the Military: Information Officer Deployment: Operation Enduring Freedom - Iraq Decorations: National Defense Service Medal w/ Bronze Star, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal I’m a data analyst with an interest in telling compelling stories using advanced analytics, optimizing models, and onboarding new data sets. Currently, I build client value by designing travel management ecosystems where our incredible team solves traveler problems, engineers booking and expense systems, and delivers decisionsupport insights. Business enterprises, social good, political management and military operations are examples where I connect information with business networks to create value.
k c la B r e h p o t is r h Samuel C As a military child, I have had the opportunity to travel the world, learn a different language in exotic lands, and move from location to location at any given time. I was born in Tampa, Florida and I am now a resident of California. I have seen many different places and faces, yet I still have found that many things are similar. Data Analytics is a growing field, and this is my turn to create pathways for me to provide my future children. NPower has given me this opportunity.
When I’m not data wrangling, I influence business culture as an ally for women to create innovative gender equality initiatives. I mentor women in coding and entrepreneurship. On my second tour to Iraq with my Army Reserve team, I was recognized for advancing the U.S. Army’s gender equality program. The rigorous instruction and access to high-demand enterprise software are two reasons I chose NPower to accelerate my career transition. Adding to this powerful offering is the success support team who make everyday obstacles into small ant hills, creating a positive learning environment. I can easily step over these ant hills to focus on what matters most—my training.

The goal is to acquire the missing set of formal technology skills, including data analytics, to further develop my career towards landing a CISO chair.
Juan Fresquez-Gomez Having been born and raised in the Bay Area, I grew up in the tech-boom without fully knowing what it was. When my daughter was born, the need for a lucrative career became even more important. I knew that I enjoyed computers, but I lacked the skills and opportunity to take that enjoyment seriously. Eventually, I discovered a program similar to NPower that helped me land my first job as an IT technician. Since then I have moved up to Windows Systems Administrator roles and discovered NPower’s Enterprise Service Management program. Through NPower, I plan to move into the cybersecurity field and solidify my skillset in Silicon Valley.

My professional career started as a graphic artist before joining the Air Force, at age 23. I initially trained as a Navigational Aids Equipment Specialist assigned to the 1849 EIS (Electronic Installation Squadron) at McClellan AFB, Sacramento, CA, but also received training in meteorological equipment and radars as well. I switched focus to computer programming and was assigned to the Standard Systems Center at Gunter AFS, Montgomery, AL, where my two eldest daughters were born. With five years of programming under my belt, I transitioned to the private sector and returned to California, welcoming the birth of my youngest daughter, and again switched focuses from military Unisys mainframes to computing for government-based enterprise healthcare and IBM mainframes. Currently, I am retraining for more relevant private sector IT skills, including IT classes at Ohlone College and NPower’s Enterprise Service Management program—all to help secure a meaningful and challenging position in the famous Silicon Valley.
Job in the Military: Water and Fuels Systems Maintenance Decorations: Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Training Ribbon Since leaving the Air Force, I trained in IT, which has led to roles as a Network Operations Center technician, an IT specialist, and a Systems Engineer. I am currently working on my IT knowledge in Networking and Systems Administration. I learned about Splunk’s place with big data during my role as a systems engineer. The addition of this knowledge will be advantageous in my pursuit of becoming a big data administrator. I am excited about the skills and training the NPower Enterprise Service Management Program provides. In my spare time, I volunteer as a tutor to students, and with another organization that helps the homeless and is also a men’s recovery program.

I recently finished an internship at Symantec where I worked on the Global Security Office (GSO) team. There I learned various security applications and practices, and experienced managing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Disk Encryption, SSL Certificates, S/MIME, and vulnerability scans on Qualys. NPower’s Enterprise Service Management program has given me experience and certifications in using Splunk, a Security Information Event Management (SIEM) program. We all put information online, where it is susceptible to malicious intent. To keep our information safe, I am working my way towards a career in the information security field as a security engineer.
Decorations: Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal I joined the Air Force and trained as a Security Forces Defender (Military Police/Base Security). My first duty station was with the 366th Security Forces Squadron out of Mountain Home ID. From there, I deployed once overseas and assigned to the 407 Air Expeditionary Group before finishing my enlistment at Kunsan Air Base, Korea. After my active duty contract was up, I enlisted in the Air National Guard with the 129th Rescue Wing and retrained as a C-130 crew chief/aircraft mechanic. I left the military in 2015 and began training in information technology. I now hold Comp TIA A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications. Currently, I serve as a member of the Stride Center’s Alumni Leadership Council and plan to continue supporting students in pursuing training and meaningful employment within the tech industry. NPower’s Enterprise Service Management Program is a great addition to my skill set.

I am a retired naval officer and physical therapist who chose information technology as my next career move. NPower has been instrumental in helping me achieve the certifications necessary to pursue a successful tech career. I began my affiliation with NPower by completing the Tech Fundamentals program and continued to strengthen my resume by achieving certifications in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), and ServiceNow System Administrator through NPower’s Enterprise Service Management program in Alameda. The addition of the Splunk User and Power User skill set and certifications will serve to widen my industry prospects. I am extremely grateful to NPower for allowing me the opportunity to succeed!
I joined the Marine Corps out of high school as a fixed cyphony technician and later a communications security equipment technician. I served with the headquarters of MCAS Yuma and MCAS Iwakuni, Japan before completing my enlistment. I have returned to the IT field and have been fortunate to hold consulting sales, and operation roles. u m u a u T y e l Wes The summer of my college freshman year, I began volunteer work for my church. There, I organized events, managed volunteers, administered groups and ministries, performed music, and led fellowships. These passion projects have occupied much of my time up until now. As a result, I have worked many entry-level jobs where I have honed my customer service and interpersonal skills. As a student in NPower’s Enterprise Service Management Class, I will be adding more desirable certifications to my resume as well as having the opportunity to network with IT professionals. I look forward to securing a position with a reputable IT company through my connection to NPower and continuing my education in the meantime.
