“
NPower gives its best and expects no less from its students. It is a place where hard work is rewarded and collaboration and dialogue are encouraged. I’ve seen time and again, the staff mentor, guide and aid students who without such a support system would have fallen through the cracks and never realize the true potential they each possessed including myself. When I tell recruiters that I am a NPower student; they always get back to me because that name carries weight in the industry. I am fortunate to have been at NPower and I look forward to the day when I can give back.

I am always thankful and humbled by the opportunities presented to me by NPower. Before I joined, I was working retail jobs as a cashier and a bike messenger. Many hours of work put in to make an affordable living. The program was a godsend and strengthened my technology skills and business sense. By partaking in the cybersecurity course, I’ve developed greater confidence in my ability to not only problem-solve but also in shaping my future. During my internship at Broadridge, I’ve cultivated many skills that I believe will stay with me for the rest of my life, technological and otherwise.
INTERNSHIP Federal Reserve Bank of New York As a recent graduate of computer science at the University of St. La Salle, I moved back to New Jersey to get my career started. I found NPower’s Tech Fundamentals program and felt learning about hardware and networking was a skill I needed. I was accepted into the program and did my internship at Ockupy as a web development intern. When I found out that NPower has a Cybersecurity program, I immediately applied. I have always wanted to learn about the field but never had the resources to initiate. After joining the cyber program, I ultimately fell in love with the field and felt like this was where I needed to be. Everything was interesting to me, from the technical skills to compliance and governance. My current internship is at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York with the National Incident Response Team. The experience has been amazing, and it has led me to explore different skills in the cyber field. Working for the bank has made me sure of my career goals and more passionate for this field. Though achieving the CySA+ and Linux+ certifications are significant accomplishments, cybersecurity is ever-growing, and I want to continue to be a part of the cyber war.

Before NPower, I was uncertain about my future career and purpose. NPower has helped me find my passion and has given me confidence as a professional in cybersecurity. I can walk into a room and feel that I too belong among security professionals thanks to the knowledge NPower has given me. Not only do I have my short-term career goals envisioned, but I am also able to map out my long-term career trajectory. NPower is the best thing that has happened to me. I have met my best friends, favorite teachers, and incredible opportunities thanks to NPower. I hope to be a proud supporter of NPower for years to come as I owe a large part of my happiness thanks to this fantastic program which has completely changed my life for the better.
INTERNSHIP Citi Fusion Center Upon graduating last year from Baruch College with a BBA in finance, I had a conundrum: whether to continue working in finance or pursue a career where I can utilize my strengths. I came across NPower’s Tech Fundamentals program, and upon earning my CompTIA A+ certification, I was privileged enough to intern with KPMG. During my time at NPower, I realized that they were more than just a training school. They spent time developing each student to succeed in the corporate field with professional training, financial planning, personal development and educational guidance. The people at KPMG and NPower helped me realize that tech support wasn’t my higher calling and made me think about how I can challenge myself. In the wake of all the hacking news, I decided to combine my knowledge of finance and IT and enter the cybersecurity field. NPower again provided the platform for my training. Although it was challenging at times, nothing prepared me more and made me steadfast on entering the industry. I hope to continue my determination to learn and keep climbing. NPower will always be my foundation, and I look forward to working in vulnerability assessment as I continue bolstering my career.

Before NPower, I worked in retail but wanted to pursue a career in IT. NPower gave me the hands-on experience and confidence to succeed in the workplace as well as earn certifications like A+, Linux+, CSA+ and Splunk User/Power User. My plan now is to earn Network+ and Security+ certifications, do hands-on training and finish college for a career in network security. At my internship with the Office of the CISO at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, I learned how to use SIEM applications to detect potential threats, create accurate reports for managers to review, and met a wide range of employees with different job responsibilities within cybersecurity.
INTERNSHIP CBS I studied computer science before coming to NPower but felt something was missing in what I was learning. When my friend told me about NPower and their mission, I knew that it was for me. Going through Tech Fundamentals made me realize that there was a field that helps secure data, systems, and networks. Cybersecurity had a personal meaning for me because my family owns a small business and I have always wondered how to secure it. People can easily break into and destroy an entire enterprise. Going through this class helped me get closer to my goal of assisting small businesses to achieve their networks. The cybersecurity class has taught me the fundamentals of the cyber field, and more importantly, that success requires passion and grit. The world runs on the internet right now, and I believe I can help make a difference in securing it. After NPower, I will continue to learn and apply my knowledge to help secure data. Thank you again for this opportunity NPower.

NPower’s Cyber Program was one of the best things that happened to me. Professionally, I gained a skill set that wows every recruiter. I gained confidence and an attitude that taught me to never give up on my dreams. It was an extremely condensed 14-week program that pushed us out of our comfort zones and showed me the best in myself. I was uniquely exposed to all the varying fields within cybersecurity through guest lectures and site visits to corporations and cyber vendors. I accomplished hands-on exercises in Pen Testing, Ethical Hacking, developing HoneyPots and other skills which will make me stand out from other cyber candidates for a long time to come. I will forever be indebted to NPower and the Brooklyn staff that treated me like family. I look forward to the day when I can give back to this fantastic organization.
INTERNSHIP NBCUniversal Before NPower, I was working a help desk job. I had an idea of where I wanted to go but no plan of attack. NPower didn’t take me by the hand and baby me. Instead, they pointed me to a path and then showed me how to pave the road. Though hard work and determination I learned more about cybersecurity, gained a better understanding of the field, and obtained my Linux+ and CySA+ to help prepare me for my career.

Before NPower, I worked as a security officer up to 60+ hours a week. After my son was born, I realized I was not spending enough time with my family and had little career opportunity. I recently graduated from NPower’s Tech Fundamentals program earning my A+ certificate and had the opportunity to intern at Citi. After Tech Fundamentals, I was given a chance to be part of something more significant, NPower’s Symantec Cyber Career Connection Class 4. The hard work, perseverance, learning, studying and sacrifices have helped me to achieve my Linux+ and CySA+ certifications. I now look forward to starting my career in cybersecurity and completing my bachelor’s degree in computer science and information security. I will forever be grateful to NPower for all they have done for my family and me. Thank you NPower and to my instructor for believing in me and giving me a chance.
INTERNSHIP Bloomberg Before attending NPower’s Symantec Cyber Career Connection class, I was a recent graduate of NPower’s Tech Fundamentals program where I gained an interest in learning more about the security side of information technology. Shortly after I obtained my A+ certification, I started to prepare for the SC3 class through self-study and hours of practice. The journey through the course was filled with long days and nights which led to successfully acquiring my CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ and Linux+ certifications. My instructor pushed my limits and taught me how valuable the Linux terminal can be when envisioning myself as an attacker, and the ability to analyze and defend against potential network threats. While interning at Bloomberg LP’s Security Operations Center, I was able to work with threat analysts, malware analysts, and a triage team. I also participated in projects that required me to think outside the box and increase my skills with coding in Windows Powershell and Python. All of the information and skills that I learned in class was put to use and was also expanded upon greatly. I plan on strengthening my knowledge and skill set toward malware and threat analysis as well as digital forensics to become an even more significant asset to enterprises.

NPower was my gateway to pursuing a career in information technology. I was always fascinated with technology, but I never planned to be in the IT field. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to pursue, but once I heard about NPower, I said to myself why not. I joined NPower in 2013, and after I graduated and completed my internship, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the IT field. I decided to go to college and achieved a BA in networking and computer security. Here I am again at NPower in 2018, taking advantage of their Cybersecurity program. This class has improved my knowledge and answered the security questions I had while working as a field networking tech. I love challenges and cybersecurity is an exciting and challenging field. NPower offered mentoring and career guidance that is not provided in college. I am grateful to be graduating from NPower’s Symantec Cyber Career Connection Class 4. It’s pleasing to know that I am in a field that is armed with the tools that will allow me to protect and serve others. Congrats to all my Cyber Warriors, the hard work and dedication is to be continued.
INTERNSHIP Tevora Before joining NPower, I was an early childhood teacher for Head Start. I was looking for opportunities to enter the tech industry, but no one would take a chance on me without any experience. I decided to leave my teaching job and join Tech Fundamentals. Joining this course helped me understand more about technology and sparked my interest in cybersecurity. Fast forward a year later, I am now interning at Tevora and working with the Privacy, Enterprise Risk, and Compliance team. NPower has helped me not only obtain more confidence in my technical skills but also to make excellent connections. I hope that I will keep growing within the cybersecurity field and one day help others the same way NPower helped me.

I graduated from Binghamton University with a bachelors in psychology, initially working as a sales representative. I quickly realized it was not something I wanted to do. When the opportunity to become an NPower student arose, I took the chance to change my career path. The journey through the program was not easy, but it was rewarding. I gained a lot of knowledge and the opportunity to become an instructor’s assistant. From a student to a staff member, I saw how the program runs and the wonderful individuals that make NPower successful. After two years of being part of the team, I decided to take another chance in my career. I applied to the Cybersecurity program for NPower alumni. The 14 weeks of classes instilled in me a lot of resources to increase my knowledge in security. After going through the program, I can say that if you put dedication and effort into learning something new, then everything else is possible. For me, the learning has only begun. I cannot wait to see what my career in cybersecurity has to offer me.
INTERNSHIP CA Technologies I’m an NPower Tech Fundamentals alumni and now a cybersecurity professional. In my previous role, I worked as a customer service representative, but I hungered for something more. I knew I wanted to get back into technology in a big way. That’s why I decided to enroll in NPower’s cybersecurity program. The team was instrumental in combining my passion for IT security with the technical skills and professional development that are crucial to thriving in the corporate environment. I had a great experience interning at CA Technologies. The valuable information I learned from seasoned professionals as well as the relationships made, helped lay the foundation for my career. This experience has changed my life. The opportunities are endless. I want to thank the entire NPower staff and my fellow students throughout this journey of growth and realizing one’s potential. I plan to continue my education and add to my skill set so that I can be of service to my community.

After graduating from the Tech Fundamentals program, I was volunteering at the New York Hall of Science as an IT helpdesk intern. While working there, I got curious about the cybersecurity field and decided to apply for NPower’s Cybersecurity program. I am thankful to the NPower family for giving me the opportunity to be a part this program. My experience as a cyber student here will always be treasured. I had the pleasure of learning so many new things as well as meeting great individuals. I truly appreciate the generous love and support of the staff. After graduation, I look forward to enhancing my skills and further expanding my knowledge in this fantastic field.
INTERNSHIP Federal Reserve Bank of New York After transitioning out of the United States Navy, I knew I wanted to do something in information technology. My first interaction with NPower was through their Tech Fundamentals class where I received my CompTIA A+ certification. I was able to utilize some of my newfound skills during an internship at TD Ameritrade where I worked as an assistant Resource Coordinator for their Infrastructure team. I also worked as a junior business analyst at the start-up company Inpensa. I was contacted with the opportunity to enroll in NPower’s cybersecurity program where I developed a fascination with the cybersecurity field and earned the CompTIA CySA+ and Linux + certifications. Currently, I am an intern at The Federal Reserve in the Office of the CISO where I am honing my new skills and increasing my knowledge. I continue to feel excited about my new career path and enjoy learning the different aspects of cybersecurity. I can say NPower has been a significant force in encouraging and inspiring that drive.

I’ve been introduced to a new area of IT work through the NPower cyber program. Before this, I was working as a quality assurance tester for Gadget Software in Newark. That was a great job at a great company that began through Tech Fundamentals. Through that job, I learned how important security is for software and technology which sparked an interest in security work, and NPower’s Symantec Cyber Career Connection Program was a great way to get started in this industry. The program was an intense learning experience where I learned many tools and what is needed to perform entry-level security work. I also met many people working in the industry, including program alumni who were able to shed light on how to get a start, explaining their career paths and how we can do our best work in the field. My plans moving forward are to do network monitoring or application security and to continue to learn and develop my security toolset. I recently completed an application vulnerability assessment internship at Citi and am excited to move forward with a career in cybersecurity.
INTERNSHIP Bank of America Before NPower’s Symantec Cyber Career Connection program, I wasn’t going anywhere with my previous job. I was stuck and needed a way to challenge myself for my career to take off. That’s where NPower’s cybersecurity program came in. In this program, I have gained high-level skills and certifications, networked with many people in various companies and learned many interesting things during my internship at Bank of America. My next goal is to obtain AWS certificates and go from there.

NPower has opened a world of opportunities for me. Before the cybersecurity program, I was trying to figure out what was next. I was happily working IT support at a non-profit, but I wanted more. I set my goal on completing the Symantec Cyber Career Connection program, which has been a long and arduous task. My classmates and I have toiled through the weeks, soaking up all the information we could. NPower has helped me lay the foundation down for a successful career in cybersecurity, and I hope to take my talents into the field of forensics and build on what I’ve learned here.
INTERNSHIP Bloomberg After completing the NPower Tech Fundamentals course right out of high school, I was interning at a non-profit organization and attending college. All the while, cybersecurity was the clear goal I had in mind for my future career. NPower gave me the opportunity to get my career started after high school by being a help desk technician, and then providing me with the chance to earn much-needed security certifications, and gain knowledge and experience through my internship at Bloomberg LP. I’m grateful to NPower for giving me an opportunity that not many people would give me, and for the support, I needed as well. For the future, I look forward to becoming a penetration tester after receiving the widely popular CAH and OSCP certifications.
