GSK Montrose Primary Manufacturing & Supply Excellence, Partnership, Passion

An introduction to GSK Montrose primary supply facility

GlaxoSmithKlines’ Montrose site is a primary supply facility and a key provider of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for some of GSK’s most therapeutically and commercially important products. Operating since 1952, the 45 acre site is situated on the east coast of Scotland, approximately mid-way between Dundee and Aberdeen. Key capabilities A lean manufacturing facility, Montrose is a key supplier of APIs for GSK’s largest-selling respiratory portfolio; for a number of steroid products and for a range of other treatments including influenza, high blood pressure, benign prostatic hyperplasia and AIDS/HIV. The site has a long association with products used to treat asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), which includes extensive expertise in physical properties characterisation, a critical aspect of respiratory products. Montrose also has a long history of supplying actives for steroids, manufacture of which involves complex, multi-stage synthesis. Manufacturing facilities have state of the art control systems and are highly contained. Production can be accommodated in either dedicated plant or in general-purpose, multi-stream facilities which are flexible and can be turned around quickly.
