Put Your Glasses On My eye glasses take a beating. My 3 young boys are often banging into them when we wrestle around. And when my glasses fall off, I have trouble seeing past the end of my nose. My priority immediately becomes putting my glasses back on. The Apostle Paul urges us to have a similar priority in our daily choices.

“Do not destroy with your food Him for whom Christ died” (Romans 14:15). Back then, some folks grew up with a bunch of dietary restrictions from the Jewish Law. But Christ removed those restrictions, stating that a person is not defiled by what he eats. But some folks continued to consider some foods unclean while others began to enjoy them like never before. This kind of clash could cause serious trouble in the Body of Christ. Paul’s message here is to the person who easily enjoys freedoms … “Not so fast, friend … your enjoyment of the freedoms is really tripping up your brothers. Don’t you think you can forego some of those things for their sake? After all, Christ gave up His life for them. Surely you can give up a few lesser things.” Have you also been taking a short-sighted approach to the Christian life?

Blessings, Derek

AT&T U-Verse has made a big splash in the world of tv, internet, etc. But a possible re-spelling of U-Verse would be U-Serve. U-Serve would be a pretty good mantra for you to carry in 2011. How can you get into the habit of serving others? What can you sacrifice for the sake of someone else? What need can you meet? How can you be a blessing each day? With this new mantra in mind (and heart) you are poised to make a big splash that has a rich impact. Will you subscribe to U-Serve this year?

21 Things In 21 Things God Never Said, Dr. Moyer responds to Misconception #18: “To reach a cultist, you have to know what the cult believes.” “[This] is not taught in Scripture. Believers should so know the truth of Scripture that when they hear error they recognize it. We should so present the truth of the gospel before the cultist that the truth, anointed by the Holy Spirit, can bring that person to Christ. To reach cultists, believers must know what they themselves believe, not what the cult believes.” (p141)
