Hours for Base Pools The Support Site pool is open now through June 11 on Saturdays, Sundays and U.S. holidays from noon to 7 p.m. The pool will operate its summer hours from June 12 to Sept. 7 and be open Friday through Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m. During summer hours the Support Site pool is closed Wednesdays and Thursdays. New DVD Video Series Available at Base Libraries The Support Site Library and Capo Connections have a few new DVD Video Series for community members to use. Business Soft Skills is a complete video curriculum on resume writing, interviewing & networking, finding a job, customer service basics, career transitions and more. Beyond Phonics/Ready for Phonics are animated fairy tales, which introduce the alphabet and short and long vowels, while music and songs combine with sound-teaching methods to make learning to read fun for children. Food Handler Courses Offered by USNH Naples U.S. Naval Hospital Naples is hosting Food Handler Courses through the summer months. Youth Programs (CYP) is hosting a Summer Day Camp for children 6 to 13, which will run weekly from June 15 to Aug. 21 with field trips, swimming, outdoor activities and other fun events. Camp is open to dependent children of active-duty service members, DoD civilian personnel, and Reservists (on active duty, on orders or in training). It is also open to NATO community personnel who have an MWR privilege card for their child. Children must be 6 to 13 years old. However, 5 year old children can also participate if they have already completed kindergarten. May 29: Stargazing at Carney Park View one of the best nights of the year for stargazing at Carney Park on Friday, May 29. Telescopes, a multimedia presentation and expert knowledge will be provided by Astrocampania, a local non-profit team of astronomy enthusiasts, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Telescopes will be ready for viewing after the presentation concludes. A 20 percent discount on Carney Park lodging is being offered for all eligible patrons. All ages are welcome at this free event. The stargazing will be canceled in the event of inclement weather, however if conditions are good, Saturn will be visible. Become a certified water safety instructor June 1- 8 at the Support Site pool (must attend all class dates). Course pre-test will be held on Monday, June 1 at 3 p.m. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, class will run from 3 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $150 per person and will be payable only after successfully completing the course pre-test. June 6: Rafting Day Trip Do you enjoy the thrilling sound of rushing water? Do you love to be immersed in the beauty of the outdoors? Experience the challenging recreational activity of rafting. Activity is available on the Tangaro and Calore (rivers south of Salerno). Cost is $49 per person and includes equipment, guide and transportation. Program is open to 12 year olds and above, however, participants under 17 must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian. June 11: 5th Annual Swim Assessment & Lesson Registration Day Join MWR Aquatics at the Support Site pool on Thursday, June 11 for a free day of swim assessments to participate in this summer’s swim lessons and pool activities. The following will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Level of Swim Assessment for Children (to be placed in the best level of swim lesson); Deep Water Swim Test for children under the age of 12 (to use deep end slide and diving board); “Swim Alone” Test for children ages 10-11 (to enter pool without parent). Note: Parent must accompany
child to take the “Swim Alone” test and sign the contract. There will also be registration for Summer Swim Lessons (Session 1). Our classes include Baby & Me (Infants 12-36 months swimming w/parent), Pre-schooler (3-4 year olds, in water without parent), and Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced (for 5-13 year olds).
