p The Te Kopuru Fire Brigade said farewell to their secretary and treasurer Libby Morgan after 25 years of involvement in the brigade. “Libby’s husband was Chief Fire Officer until he stepped down last year and she assisted looking after the kids during every event or incident,” said chairperson of the Te Kopuru Fire Rescue Incorporated, David Milich. Libby has been the backbone of their brigade for many years, working behind the scene, always with a smile on her face.

Those who lost their locks received a beanie to keep warm, as well as a wrapped gift, and Charlotte decorated their heads afterwards with stickers and coloured spray.

Signs oppose chicken farm u by Ayla Miller

Signs created by Te Kopuru artist David Sarich, opposing the Tegel broiler chicken farm, have been erected near the proposed site at Arapohue.

p The Kaipara Art Awards celebrated local talent from across the region

Judge, Richard Cranenburgh, said his choices came from many years of looking at art as well as ‘from the heart’. “I look for a work that talks to me, something that leaps out. This year the standard has gone up another notch from last year.” First place in the two-dimensional category went to Christine Moginie for her watercolour on canvas A Reflective View. The judges’ award went to Peter Bradburn for his piece titled Three. Sheila Shadick, Annie Kitchener and Carlyn Condon came second, third and merit respectively.

First place for the three-dimensional category was awarded to Samala Waipouri for Wiri Wiri Mawhero made from natural dyed harakeke pikau, and Margot Symes was awarded the judges’ award for her work made from andesite, hemp and wood and titled Principle Anchor. Yvonne Tana won second place, John Ecuyer third and Terry Haines received merit. The exhibition will be held at Muddy Waters Gallery until August 7 before moving to Mangawhai Artists Gallery and reopening on August 11. ¢

The signs are Mr Sarich’s contribution to the Kaipara Community Association Incorporated’s fight against the proposed poultry farm. “This development if it goes ahead will permanently scar the landscape and for generations to come,” said David. “We need to stand up and honestly say ‘no’ to industrialised megafarming in our communities. p Members of the Kaipara Community Association Incorporated stand with the new signs opposing the This should not be in proposed Tegel chicken farm anyone’s backyard.” The Kaipara Community separately as a non-notified application Association Incorporated is prior to the chicken farm application. opposing Tegel’s application to site Northland Regional Council says New Zealand’s biggest-ever broiler this was consistent with the Resource chicken factory, housing more than Management Act. Tegel has made a nine million chickens a year for the separate application for consent to take export market. The group is currently 63,250 cubic metres of water daily, as fundraising for the resource consents the amount exceeds the volume allowed hearing on August 8 at the Lighthouse by the Regional Water and Soil Plan Function Centre. for Northland. The signs follow the news that Kapehu Marae is also opposed as consent was granted in February for the farm’s boundary would be only five Tegel to install eight groundwater metres from the marae wharenui and bores on or near the site — processed about 350m from the urupa. ¢ SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ARE HERE! DOC volunteers wanted Community centre petition u by Jill Dickie

u by Jill Dickie

The Department of Conservation is inviting environment enthusiasts to join them for a volunteer day on Friday, July 13 at Trounson Kauri Park Reserve.

A petition supporting the proposed Baylys Beach Community Centre and Surf Life Saving Club has been delivered to Kaipara District Council acting CEO Kurt Martin.

p DOC community ranger Sapphire Maunsell with biodiversity ranger Alana McLeod preparing for the volunteer day

The day will incorporate planting flax, mahoe, coprosma robusta, kahikatea and mapou and spending time observing flora and fauna. The more volunteers that attend, the more trees will be planted. The area set aside for the plantings is protectively fenced and retired from farming. Sturdy footwear, appropriate clothing, a spade and a bottle of water

should be brought along, and lunch will be provided. Those interested should meet at DOC Kauri Coast office, 150 Colville Road at 9.15am. Limited transport is available, and bookings close July 11. Contact Sapphire 09 439 3472 or email smansell@doc.govt.nz for further information. ¢

Correction In last week’s issue, a new installation at the Dargaville Museum was described as ‘pou’. Museum

director, Maree Saunders, advises the three units are to be known as ‘branding posts.’

p Baylys Beach Society representatives after presenting the petition to Council. Graeme Hudson, Trish Rolfe, KDC acting CEO Kurt Martin, Cheryl Carmichael

The petition was initiated by the Baylys Beach Society and resulted in 1,323 people adding their names to demonstrate their support for the development of the project. “The petition was only circulating for a short time, so the overwhelming support shown by the general public reflects the need for this facility to be built,” said society chair, Cheryl Carmichael. “The proposed development is bigger than just Baylys Beach residents and homeowners. “People from all sorts of places use our beaches at all times of the year, not

just peak holiday season, with numbers increasing noticeably. The community centre will provide not only a hub for Baylys residents but give another venue option for the wider public.” The money for the facility was bequeathed by a local resident to the community. There is no cost for either council or ratepayers. The society wanted to be proactive and felt a petition would offer people an opportunity to have a voice and be included in the public consultation process if they did not submit a formal submission to council. ¢

Gallery has alternative space u by Paul Campbell

A delay in the conversion of the former Otamatea Council building in Paparoa into a medical centre and community hub has seen a tenant of the building turn to an alternative showcase. The White Rock Gallery vacated the building, along with the Paparoa Library, two months ago, to make way for renovations, which would rehome both enterprises as well as a new medical centre planned by the Paparoa Medical Society. Art and crafts are being displayed at The Kauri Museum, and the adjacent Gumdiggers cafe, while the gallery awaits the renovations. “At present, the gallery proper is in limbo,” said White Rock chair, Stu Robertson. ”The gallery is displaying work at the museum and cafe on a permanent, ongoing basis — not temporarily.” Paparoa Medical Society chair, Graham Taylor says the society is aware many in the community have been p Stu Robertson, of White Rock Gallery inconvenienced by the building closure. “There have been a number of unexpected and unforeseen challenges involved in turning what had been essentially a private home into a code compliant public building. “Meeting current code compliance is complex and costly. Tax boosts fuel sales Kaiwaka’s Shamrock service station is experiencing a boom in sales a week after the imposition of the 11.5 cents a litre Auckland region-wide fuel tax. The Caltex station is just seven kilometres from the Auckland/ Kaipara District border and has registered about 150 per cent more custom than usual. Manager, Manpreet Kaur, says the pumps “have been very busy, with our position as the first service station for Auckland traffic heading back (south).” Ms Kaur said it was too early to make a full assessment of the effect of the tax, which would be best measured by the fuel companies.

The regional imposition is expected to raise about $1.5 billion directly over the next 10 years and help leverage $4.3 billion in investment to fund projects that improve local roads. However, respite for Kaipara is only temporary as the government also plans to lift excise tax nationwide by three-and-a-half cents a litre from October 1 this year, with further rises of three-and-a-half cents a litre in the following two years, raising $5 billion over a decade towards improving infrastructure.

KAIPARA SPOTLIGHT An open letter to customers of the Resource Consents and Planning team of Kaipara District Council Kaipara District Council would like to apologise for any delays and inconvenience that customers of the planning department may be experiencing due to the slower than normal processing of resource consents, responses to customer enquiries and requests for pre-application meetings. We understand the frustration and inconvenience these issues have created for those of you who are applying and working through resource consents. As you can see in the graph council is receiving higher than average numbers of resource consent. We are finding that within the increased number of resource consent applications there are complex issues which trigger thorough investigation and policy analysis. The social needs and priorities within our district are changing, highlighting at times a misalignment between the operative Kaipara District Plan’s rules and the community aspirations. We are currently at the early stages of a comprehensive review of the Kaipara District Plan, which we envisage will address growth and associated issues such as climate change impacts, protection of natural resources, rural amenity and infrastructure planning. KDC staff are doing all they can to provide a professional service to the communities of Kaipara. There is currently a nationwide shortage of planners and we are looking at opportunities to attract new staff. As an organisation we have been trying to attract more staff to meet our obligations, however given the shortage this can have its difficulties. This may include providing a cadetship to attract local young people to work with KDC in the planning field as a means to grow our local resources and people capacity. Additionally, a number of tools are being progressed to assist with the provision of planning advice to customers, such as formalising a duty planner system, and improvements to digital and print material available for our customers. Your views on the Kaipara District Plan will also be sought to help us improve this important planning instrument. KDC’s Regulatory, Planning and Policy team are currently under-resourced to meet the pressures created by an extensive increase in resource consent applications throughout the Kaipara District. In spite of this under-resourcing we have managed to meet legal timeframe requirements for 88% of all non-notified consent applications for the past twelve months. The next six months are likely to continue to be busy for the KDC resource consent planners, particularly as an increasing number of resource consent applications proceed to hearings due to public interest. Once again we apologise in advance for any delays that may occur. We are trying to address outstanding resource consent applications as quickly as possible and aim to initiate some short term solutions to assist with staff shortages within the next month.

Celebrating 25 years

Silver Fern Farms is celebrating 25 years in Dargaville and now employs 130 locals — up from 65 when it first opened.

It was an emotional occasion when Habitat for Humanity general manager Carina Dickson reunited with a recipient family recently, one year on from when they received the keys to their new home.

The plant began as Lowe Walker with the first animal processed on June 28, 1993. “We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our loyal, valued suppliers. In the beginning, Mayor Brown fought to get the facility built here in Dargaville. The other location option was the old money factory in Whangarei,” says manager, Lance Warmington. The plant took 12 weeks to build, and the staff size doubled in 1994 with a second shift bringing more than $325 million into the local economy in wages since then. “That is $13–15 million a year, and we try to purchase as much locally as possible to support the local economy. “There are four long-standing employees from the original team —

Walking tracks closed

New signage approaches

u by Jill Dickie

u by Jill Dickie

The Paparoa Lions Club has closed the town’s bush walkway until further notice, due to extremely wet conditions and concerns over the spread of kauri dieback disease.

New welcome signage is being prepared for the four entrances to Dargaville, (SH12, SH14, Murdoch Street and Pouto Road), one of the current projects underway by the Dargaville Business Forum.

p Paparoa Lions Club representative, Jim Rowlands, with the signage to their currently closed track

Also closed until further notice is the Department of Conservation’s Lookout Track in Waipoua Forest, which connects the visitor centre with the forest lookout. Two other tracks are closed for the month of July to enable DOC contractors to complete construction work. These are the Kauri Bushmans Walk, off Sterling road, between Matakohe and Paparoa, and Tokatoka Scenic

Reserve track off Tokatoka road. Upon completion, further tracks will be closed systematically for track upgrades, which will include gravel, retaining walls, stairways, handrails and boardwalks. Construction work will take approximately 24 weeks to complete. For further information contact Kauri Coast DOC office on 09 439 3450. ¢

Assistance has been received from Fosters Home Decorating, Dargaville ITM, I-Deal Demo, Paxton Family Trust, Shane Hanley Builder, Colin Anderson, Roydons Mamaranui Transport, Peter Boyd, Department of Corrections and Kaipara District Council. “The old signage definitely needs replacing, and this project has been in the pipeline for the DBF for the past year. It will be exciting to have more appealing signs at our gateways,” said secretary Sue Curtis. Community banners have been installed on Victoria Street and will remain in place until November when the Christmas banners will be hung. Northpower and Broad Spectrum assist with the installation, taking over from Margaret and John Bishop who have retired. A new campaign is being launched through the DBF Facebook page to promote the use of social media for business promotion. Local business owners are encouraged to participate in mini surveys, post photos of their team at work and to share news items relating to Northland business. Topics for surveys include whether the proposed chicken farm will

I looked into commercial transport options because I had driven trucks before but didn’t have the licences. This course has given me the tickets and is close to where I live in town. “The best part of the course has been learning something new and meeting the other students and tutors. The tutors are very professional and really know what they are doing. Kumara, cress and smoked seafood bisque

THE cold

Warm up with this hearty bisque using natural Kaipara ingredients

You’ll need — 500 grams of smoked mullet or kahawai — 750gm of locally grown kumara — a handful of washed fresh watercress — 1 red onion — 1 Tbsp each of salt, black pepper and paprika — 1 small bulb of garlic — 3 to 5 cups of seafood stock — 500mls of cream — ¼ of a small squash or pumpkin, diced — 2 capsicums — 1 pottle of smoked mussels. Place all the ingredients (veggies well chopped) barring the smoked kahawai and mussels in a slow cooker and just

KAIPARA LIFESTYLER July 10 - 2018

cover with seafood stock. Season with the pepper, paprika and salt. Allow to slow cook for most of the day until rendered into a thick broth. Turn down the heat and shred in the smoked fish, chop and add in the smoked mussels, and gently stir in the cream until the bisque reaches a thick, creamy consistency. Warm this resultant mixture, but not for long to preserve the delicate smoked seafood flavours. Serve with crusty baguette slices, fresh butter, a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of paprika on top.  ¢

Exceeding the standards Not all insulation solutions are created equal — that’s the message from within the industry as winter bites and next year’s deadline for landlords looms. While the minimum standard set by the government in an effort to reduce mortality and illness from damp and unhealthy homes is a good start, it is far below the level many people would wish for their own home, especially if that home is in a chilly climate. The underlying message is clear — all solutions should ideally be tailored for ‘best fit’. It also brings into question the widely varying levels of quality, density, longevity and thermal retention across an array of insulation products. There’s something for every situation, but it’s not ‘one size fits all’. A consultation with an insulation professional is an important first step in getting the right fix, because other tradespeople may not have the focussed, specialist knowledge to prescribe

the best solution. The best insulation providers will take into consideration the age of the building, the materials it is constructed from, local climate conditions, the use of different rooms, ventilation and more when putting together a solution. The downside of using a ‘quick fix’, (which may not be well suited to the task or may be improperly installed) is usually trouble further down the track. Resurgent mould, damp and thermal loss could strike homes, which have been hurried through at the last minute, especially as the deadline for insulation approaches. The best advice — pick an applicator you can trust, discuss a range of options, and be aware that the cheapest, minimum fix is often not the very best investment.

THE cold

Cold prevention strategies u by Jill Dickie

We all recognise the signs of a cold or flu settling in, about to derail us from our day-to-day lives creating much inconvenience. They spread primarily via droplets released in the air when someone who is ill coughs, sneezes or talks and through surface contact, so the surest natural way to lessen your odds of falling ill is to consider four basic habits. Instead of covering your cough with your hand, turn your head and cough into your arm or elbow, which will help isolate a virus as your elbow is far less likely than your hands to come in contact with people or surfaces. Wash your hands often, particularly if you are in contact with many people throughout your day. The more frequently you wash your hands with soap, the lower your risk of becoming sick. Colds and flu are caused by viruses,

not bacteria, so using an antibacterial soap as a safeguard against colds and flu may not be effective. Studies have shown that washing your hands with antibacterial soap may facilitate the growth of resistant bacteria. Copper, brass, and bronze have inherent antimicrobial properties that make them capable of reducing the spread of infection. A 2009 study from Selly Oak Hospital in England found that frequently touched items

in a hospital setting that were made of copper harboured up to 95 per cent fewer microorganisms compared with the same items made of standard materials, such as stainless steel. Numerous follow-up studies of copper’s antiviral properties indicate copper surfaces could be an effective means of reducing the spread of colds and flu. WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Godfrey Motors

Chiropractic is a healing profession that is grounded in its science, art and philosophy and is focused on the optimal function of the spine and nervous system in particular.

(2015)

WHAT DO CHIROPRACTORS DO? Chiropractors assess the body and nervous system for dysfunction (areas that aren’t working as well as they should or could be). When the body and nervous system is functioning optimally, you shouldn’t be experiencing signs and symptoms such as pain.

FOR A HEALTHIER HOME

No. Chiropractors are primary contact health care providers and you can schedule an appointment with or without a referral from your GP or any other health care provider.

IT’S A PROVEN FACT! WOOL CARPETS ARE...

CAN CHIROPRACTIC HELP ME? Our practice is a family chiropractic centre, seeing everyone from mums-to-be and newborns, to grandma and grandpa, with everyone in between. After the initial consultation, we will be able to tell you if you are a suitable candidate for chiropractic care, or refer you to a different health care provider if appropriate. WHY WOULD A CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT BE USEFUL? A chiropractic adjustment would be a useful thing to add to your health and wellbeing habits as Chiropractic is all about making sure that your brain and body talk to each other well and without any interference or dysfunction. By ensuring that the communication pathways are functioning well, the body can perform and function better, which often results in less aches and pains, therefore enabling us to live better and happier lives. Layer up and insulate

THE cold

KAIPARA LIFESTYLER July 10 - 2018

19

u by Jill Dickie

Learning how to stay warm in cold, wet conditions can be a challenge until you understand the concept of layering, which is as it sounds — wearing multiple layers of garments over each other, protecting and shielding you from the elements. Some types of clothing do a better job than others, for instance, layering summer clothes during winter months will leave you bulky and rotund looking, and wearing a light jumper over a puffer vest hardly provides any insulation at all. Wearing a snug-fitting base layer is the best place to start, and will have the benefits of being very lightweight and providing freedom of movement. It is important to ensure this layer wicks moisture away from your body, and most athletic and cold weather fabrics available are designed to do this. Next is the insulating layer, which helps to both generate and retain warmth. A woollen jumper is an effective layer for insulating, is a natural product and is relatively lightweight to wear. A synthetic fibre is more popular for sports enthusiasts who are active for a short time, as this can be lighter in weight and provides a protective layer from the weather at the same time. For some daytime activities, such as

working in an office, these layers may be all that is required, perhaps with the addition of a collared shirt, but outdoor workers may need the likes of a scarf, hat and gloves as well as warm insulating socks. The third and outer layer is an important layer to consider as it keeps the inner layers from the elements. It protects against cold wind and rain, and stops body heat escaping. If your day is spent inside, a warm down jacket or woollen coat will be required when stepping outside; if your day is spent mostly outside a waterproof PVC jacket or similar will be required, preferably with good breathable qualities. Fleece garments can be very useful for wearing while exercising, as the fabric is lightweight and breathable, but not very insulating in rain or wind. Whatever your activity, layer up, keep warm, and you should meet spring fit and healthy! ¢

Dog blamed for kiwi death

Maungaturoto medals

u by Jill Dickie

A dead kiwi has been found at Trounson Kauri Forest Park, and the Department of Conservation is imploring local residents and members of the public to be vigilant in controlling their dogs.

p The Maungaturoto Volunteer Fire Brigade presented member Glen Orford (centre) with his Gold Star Award for 25 years’ service with Fire and Emergency New Zealand, all of which were spent at the Maungaturoto Volunteer Fire Brigade. Two other members, Mark Guy (left) and Craig Fergus (right), received their Long Service Good Conduct medals for 14 years’ service.

p DOC biodiversity supervisor, Megan Topia

The female kiwi was a significant participant in the breeding population in the forest and is described as a great loss to the programme. At the time of the attack, she was carrying an egg. “That is a sad end for this bird’s story,” said DOC biodiversity supervisor, Megan Topia. “The monogamous pairs have the potential to raise four chicks per breeding season, and the loss of this breeding female means that not only

have we lost her future contribution to the kiwi population, but her mate will also not be able to contribute again until he finds another female.” The kiwi was sent for forensic testing, and DOC confirms the dog saliva found is now being profiled for helpful evidence if a dog is captured. Anyone who has seen any roaming dogs in the Trounson Kauri Park forest should contact Dog Control 0800 105 890 or DOC 0800 362 468. ¢

Milder times in the ‘winterless north’ u by Andy Bryenton

If this is the middle of winter, some locals have been heard to quip recently, then bring it on! The mild conditions, which have graced our colder months thus far are putting the shine on our title of the ‘winterless north’, especially compared to points further south where snow flurries lace the air. It’s absolutely apparent when you head down to the coast in these glassy, crisp mornings or bracing afternoons. Rather than an empty strand, blasted clear of outdoors types by a horizontal sheet of rain, you’re more likely to find a hardy breed of angler dropping a hook in the water. There’s also plenty of opportunity for those who want to push the boat out and fish over the rail or off the transom. In fact, there are some who secretly whisper that this time of year is actually a good one for snagging a beauty or two. You’ll even find some folks from down south piloting their motorhomes up to the top end for a little outdoors escape while the weather proceeds to get rotten in their home parish. These road-going behemoths run the gamut from little ‘camelback’ trucks through to entire buses cunningly converted to contain whole apartments’ worth of mod cons. Those who prefer to sleep under simple canvas would be dazed by the plasma screens, microwaves, coffee machines and artfully miniaturised plumbing tucked away within. On a serious note, though, tourism really does benefit from the fact that right now, with the shortest day well

behind us and dire imprecations filling the nightly weather, there are still plenty of sunlit hours in which to rev up the off-road bikes, pack up the tackle box, grab boots and hunting gear or just slip on those hiking trousers to enjoy the wilderness. That’s not something that’s possible or even safe too much further south. So chuck in the slippers and dressing gown and make the most of the sunshine! ¢

Since 2003 Volkswagen’s big, capable and very comfortable Touareg sports utility has been the hallmark to beat when it comes to going places off the beaten track in style. Immediately achieving a position only previously occupied by the most refined of Range Rovers, the sure-footed machine named after the hardy Berber subtribe of the Sahara became a favourite of those who placed engineering, ride and technology over empty badge prestige. The all-new 2018 Touareg is new not just in name, but new from the ground up. A ‘back to the drawing board’ approach, which has given the big Volkswagen clear-cut, handsomely aggressive lines and some of the biggest, most knockout alloy wheels on a factory sports utility. Tellingly, this slightly bigger, definitely bolder Touareg shares a platform with the upmarket Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga, but eschews big noting in favour of packing in more of what drivers want beyond the badge. It is, after all, an iteration of the ‘people’s car’ — and Volkswagen knows exactly how to give the people what they want. The cabin is nothing short of futuristic, with a crisp head-up display acting as the curtain raiser to a massive sweep of digital readouts — both electronic dials and a 15 inch infotainment screen, which uses tiles in the fashion of a Microsoft tablet. Configure it how you like, and everything is there at a fingertip’s command. If you want to be wrapped in a quiet, leather-swathed, nicely accented cocoon of serenity as you cruise, there’s now no need to buy

a Mercedes S-Class. The Touareg will also get you places a big luxury sedan could never dream of. Power comes from a smooth and whisper-quiet diesel six, designed to move all this luxury along with frugal and unobtrusive grace. Nevertheless, for those who still live with the misconception that an SUV must still be a lumbering creature, it despatches

0–100 kph in just over six seconds. Not long ago, that was v8 coupe fast. Best of all, the Touareg is nimble when it comes to low speeds and tight spaces, boasting a turning circle reminiscent of that other notable VW — the Golf GTi. Storage in the rear for the gear is also more than ample, meaning that the Touareg is as practical as it is comfortable. ¢

Fresh faces at Big River FM

25

u by Jill Dickie

Former Dargaville school pupil, Amy Munn, left with a 10year goal to move into the events management industry. She has achieved this in only three-and-a-half years, with a recent appointment as general manager of Eagles Nest luxury villas in the Bay of Islands.

u by Ayla Miller

The five new Big River FM interns are the talk of the town and will be broadcasting their fresh perspectives throughout Kaipara over the next six months.

p General manager Amy Munn taking a day off in the Dargaville area

Naiome Hemopo-Dunford, 18, Ben Fitzgerald, 18, Jake Dellow, 20, and Justine Harvey, 18, are all recent graduates from the New Zealand School of Radio in Tauranga and James Caldwell, 24, has recently secured an internship after volunteering at the station for a number of years. Jake Dellow says he chose a career in radio because “he couldn’t shut up. So I thought I’d make a career out of it.” The four radio school graduates have been in Dargaville for two weeks and say they are enjoying it. “I’m most looking forward to meeting all the locals. There are some colourful

“I’ve surprised myself at how quickly I’ve achieved my 10-year plan; I’m looking forward to what happens in the future,” said Amy. The 25-year-old moved south in 2013 to attend the Queenstown Resort College where she studied for a diploma in hospitality management. The two-year course incorporated a nine-month internship, and Amy opted for the Copthorne Hotel and Resort at Waitangi. There she was exposed to various roles in the hospitality field, from waitressing to events planning, gaining knowledge and skill to further her aspirations.

characters around for sure,” said Jake. None of the graduates knew much about Dargaville before they arrived and Naiome says she’s really looking forward to getting better at what she does. “School is all I’ve ever known. For the most part, we are left to do our own thing here so it will be good to learn how and when to do things without being told. Ben says the experience has already been a learning curve. “I’ve just moved out of home, so it’s a bit of a shock. I didn’t know how to cook two weeks ago.” ¢

After completing her study in 2014, she began working as a waitress at the five star Millbrook Resort at Arrowtown. Three months of 14-hour days set her on her path to events management, and in 2016 she was approved the dual roles of assistant manager and functions manager at Eagles Nest in Russell. On June 4 this year Amy took over as general manager when her predecessor William Hudson moved into a new role. Amy looks forward to taking over the operational and strategic direction of the multi-award winning property. ¢
