‘Watch time’ for myrtle rust
Integrity community media
Summertime is ‘watch time’ with Biosecurity New Zealand and the Department of Conservation asking the public to check their local myrtle plants to help track the spread of myrtle rust, with the disease likely to be more active during warmer weather and likely to spread to new areas where it hasn’t been seen before.

Plants including pohutukawa, rata, manuka, kanuka and ramarama are vulnerable to the disease. The fungus, which is mainly spread by wind, generally infects shoots, buds, and young leaves of myrtle plants. Infected plants show typical symptoms including bright yellow powdery spots on the underside of leaves. If you think you see symptoms of myrtle rust remember to not touch the plant or collect samples, but take pictures and report it to Biosecurity New Zealand’s Exotic Pest and Disease Hotline on 0800 80 99 66. Te Uru Rakau (Forestry New Zealand) has announced funding of almost $36 million through the Hill Country Erosion Fund (HCEF) to enable much-needed erosion control in the regions. The HCEF supports proposals to protect our most vulnerable hill country landscapes, where the main treatment is tree planting. “We’re pleased by the level of interest from councils, with 12 applications received in this latest round — four of which were from regions that had not previously applied,” says deputy director-general of forestry and head of Te Uru Rakau, Julie Collins. “It shows the importance they are placing on sustainable land management and treating erosion in their regions.” Ms Collins says the loss of productive land through erosion has a significant impact on the environment and the sustainability of New Zealand land. “The annual cost associated with hill country erosion is estimated to be between $100 million and $150 million through lost soil, nutrients and production, and damaged infrastructure and waterways. The 12 new HCEF programmes will take place between July 2019 and June 2023 and will deliver significant improvements in erosion control.” These range from building regional capacity and capability to plant trees, to farm planning and land treatments including planting poplars, willows and other indigenous and exotic species. “We estimate that over four years, these programmes will result in more than 13 million trees being planted and treatment of more than 21,000 hectares of land. “These will contribute to the government’s One Billion Trees

Janet grew up on a dairy farm and became a registered nurse. “We purchased the family farm in 2004, and bought our first Suffolk at the Stratford sales and acquired 300 ewes from two long-standing registered studs. that can handle hill country pressure and produce fast growing lambs that are sent to the works at weaning. We buy the best breeding rams, and if they don’t meet our expectations, we cull them regardless of the cost.” Raymond and Janet culled a ram costing $6,700 because they were not happy with his feet. “We want to breed good traits — because using animals with poor traits costs you in the long run,” said Raymond. “In 2012, the opportunity came to purchase Mangaohae station west

We kept costs to a minimum, and Raymond’s father Wayne helps at busy times like shearing and docking, and we recently employed a school leaver, Lochie Griffin to lighten the load and allow us time off. “We have increased our stud ewe numbers and included Suftex and Texels. Suftex are half Suffolk and half Texel — our most sought-after ram.” It produces a high yielding carcass, extra hindquarter meat with early maturing high growth rates and larger frame.

“This year we will have our first Charollais-Suffolk cross and hope their growth rates match, or better, the Suftex lamb. “Our stud ewes run separately from the commercial at lambing and mating. We believe running in large mobs with the commercial ewes, and selective breeding has contributed to increasing hardiness and intend to breed a terminal sire that’s lambs will grow well on hill country. “Our best Suftex rams are used over 1,200 Romdales, with lambing starting on September 6. We wean and ‘first fat pick’ around December 20 for singles and January 3 for twins. “Recent years with good spring grass growth 75 per cent of our Suftex/ Romdale docked lambs went to the works at weaning averaging around 17– 18kgs carcase weight. We are seeing great results of using good growth rate terminal and Romdale sires.” Mangaohae is in the Waitomo limestone area with rocky limestone outcrops and Mairoa ash soil, which can dry out quickly in summer. “The area is very wet in the winter and spring, with an average rainfall of 3,200mls yearly. The station was low fertility at purchase with P levels of six on the hill and up to 15 on some flats, with a low pH of 5.1–5.4. We invested in capital fertiliser with 400kgs of super and 2.5 tonnes of lime per ha. Fertility has increased with regular fertiliser and lime applications, and we are making good progress,” Janet says. Ewe lambing is spread across the station to reduce losses due to spring storms.

A SUSTAINABLE DAIRY SECTOR • by Denise Gunn • Since graduating from Massey University with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Kieran McCahon has moved to Hamilton to further his studies. Under a DairyNZ Masters Scholarship, Kieran is working towards a Masters in management majoring in agribusiness, through the University of Waikato.
K

All through secondary school, Kieran intended to study engineering, selecting

his subject choices accordingly. However, towards the end of year 13, he decided to study agricultural science. “There are two main things that attracted me to agriculture; the lifestyle, and the ability to make a significant difference,” said Kieran. “Science excites me; the ability to critically analyse a problem, then develop and test solutions.” Kieran said this led him to undertake his Master’s research. His thesis is focussing on the biophysical, economic and environmental

day agricultural immersion Syngenta Connections Programme in Vietnam. The programme was advertised through Massey Agriculture. The trip’s purpose was to learn about and develop solutions to the problems faced by smallholder farmers in southern Vietnam. Kieran said the trip was split into two sections. The first half of the trip focussed on gaining an understanding of the local production systems and the cultural influences. This involved presentations from stakeholders, site visits to Syngenta manufacturing, research and developing sites, as well as a community immersion programme meeting with local farmers to discuss the many issues they face and assisting with crop harvest. “In the latter stage of the programme, we were split into groups, and a competition was held to develop a scaleable solution to one of the problems faced by these small-holders.” Kieran said Syngenta put $2,000 towards a pilot project for the winning design. On the final evening of the trip, the groups presented their solutions. Kieran’s group came up with the winning project. This project looked at solutions to chemical waste disposal. Much of the waste from agricultural chemicals are either left in the field or burnt near local communities. “For me, the trip was about gaining exposure to international production systems to see how agriculture is conducted in other parts of the world. It was interesting to see how similar many of the challenges that these smallholder farmers faced were to those facing New Zealand farmers.”

He would like to make a significant difference to the sustainability of the New Zealand dairy sector. “I see the best way to achieve this is through farm systems research; the continual development and refinement of our production systems.” Kieran said this would see him undertaking further postgraduate studies. “I also have intentions of undertaking a Nuffield Scholarship in the future.”

Supporting others through trust by Ann van Engelen Helping others in the community has been something close to Neil Bateup’s heart for many a year whilst he has gone about his daily life with a personal understanding of the pressures those living in the rural community go through.
N
eil and his wife Eileen own 238 hectares and have a contract milker for their 650 cows. Neil was born into dairy farming and farms three kilometres from where he was raised, and Eileen grew up three kilometres further down the road. “We have a lot of grass and run a low input system. We make silage from our surplus grass and supplement with palm kernel or maize silage if necessary,” says Neil. Along with many other farmers across the country the couple’s toughest time in farming was 1984 when interest rates rose to 26 per cent. “Many faced serious financial hardship
but managed to get through it. Later a group of us realised there were farmers who had nowhere to go for confidential support and advice in hard times, so we formed the Rural Support Trust. We have a team that operates the 0800 number, and it is totally confidential and independent of any other organisation. “Peter Buckley was the president, John Fisher treasurer, myself and Mandy Mcleod was a farm adviser — she worked in Australia with suicide prevention in the drought-stricken areas.” Neil often finds himself at a dining table or on-farm sharing his own experiences. “We advocate and support individuals or families during stressful times. We walk alongside people as they go through their problems — their welfare is our total focus and primary concern.” He says the future of farming is positive and will continue to change as it always has since he was a child. “Back then the farmer did it all on a 50 acre farm with 40 cows, and it was a good living for someone who worked hard. Now it is about systems and is on a different level with technology becoming incredible. “I have tried different ideas, and we were one of the early adopters of tail painting for mating. We would get the retailers’ cast-off lines until someone created a paint specific for the purpose. That started through a discussion group as well and has proven positive. Farmers, whether sheep, beef, dairy or deer are not slow to take up new ideas and technologies. “Fourteen years ago we chose once a day milking, which was frowned on, but it is recognised now. I believe it has real benefits and reduces a lot of stress on the farmer and the animals and is a very sustainable system. “There will always be pressures and stresses, but the industry absolutely has a positive future. We are producing food and are doing well environmentally compared to overseas. We are seeing improvements come through with water quality and the like. ideas using science and technology to improve. “The tough times do get better, and there will be tough times — some years we get droughts or too much grass growth, and there are different decisions to make, and we get to use our knowledge and initiative. “Here in New Zealand, the stigma of asking for help has eased. “I think this is thanks to people like John Kirwan, Doug Avery and Sam Whitelock. They have all helped us to ask for help. It used to be women calling concerned for their partners — now the men are calling us direct, which is awesome. “It may be something totally unrelated to farming that becomes too much.

Harsher penalties encouraged
WAIKATO FARMING LIFESTYLES January 2019

Federated Farmers believe a recent member’s bill seeking to introduce harsher penalties and offences for deliberate food contamination needs to be funded and resourced adequately. “The bill is from National’s Nathan Guy, and it comes in the wake of last year’s Australian strawberry needle scare, which triggered copycat offences here and back over the ditch,” says Feds’ food safety spokesperson, Andrew Hoggard. “Thousands of strawberries had to be destroyed as needles started showing up in the fruit across stores. The needle scares crushed spirits and trust, however, this is not New Zealand’s first rodeo when it comes to deliberate food contamination. In 2016, Jeremy Hamish Kerr was sentenced to eight and a half years for threatening to spike baby formula with 1080. At the time of sentencing, the New Zealand Herald reported the crime cost the country more than $37 million.” Mr Hoggard says deliberate food contamination, or threats of it, hurt the country’s ability to exist. “Our country is built on and relies on primary industries to keep the current living standards we all enjoy. We need to be able to trade products safely. Our trading partners need to be able to rely on us. Any threats and attacks on our nation’s ability to function must be treated as what they are — acts of treason, piracy, espionage and corruption. “You do not deliberately contaminate food without wanting to cause terror.
Oi! DON’T TXT & DRIVE
Andrew Hoggard, Federated Farmers food safety spokesperson
These are deliberate acts designed to cause incredible anxiety and economic sabotage. “Whatever comes of Mr Guy’s bill one thing is certain — if tougher penalties are to be introduced, they must be backed with resourcing. “There is no point in waving a flag about an issue and then not resourcing organisations such as the police, the judiciary or the Ministry for Primary Industries to follow through with enforcement. “Politicians at all levels are great at talking about harsher penalties and
regulations, but are very relaxed about the details on how those processes will work and how they’ll be funded.”

Trail blazer
by Andy Bryenton
When it comes to flat out speed across rough terrain, the Can Am Maverick has the heritage, the race-bred pedigree and the sheer power to make you believe you’re actually in the cockpit of a low-flying jet fighter. Watching the Maverick’s masterwork of suspension in slow motion as those big knobbly tyres claw at the sand and dirt is an engineering class in itself. So it’s a natural progression for the product development team at Can Am headquarters to think about applying this race-winning formula to a different discipline. Throw into the mix the toughness and nimble handling of their farming and hunting off roaders — made for less speed and more practicality — and you have one of the best ideas wrapped around an internal combustion engine since Ford put a v8 in the first edition Mustang. The new Maverick Trail is only 50 inches wide — that’s 1.27 metres and that means rocky, twisting trails are its natural habitat. Still seating two in fully roll-cage enclosed comfort, this
little firecracker is designed to inspire confidence with a whole lot of low-down torque from a 1000cc, 75 horsepower Rotax engine fed air through highmounted filtered intakes to keep clear of the dust. There’s also the option of a 51hp 800cc mill, but that famous one litre power plant comes with a list of racing wins as long as your arm in other chassis, so adventure seekers might seek out the bigger displacement for more thrills. The Maverick Trail is not just easy to transport — though needless to say that small footprint works well when it’s time to put it on a trailer or up on a truck deck.

The application of a deliberately feedback-rich power steering system means that there’s no struggling and sweating to wrestle with the wheel; at low speeds the system adjusts to give more of a boost, helping out when the trail is choppy or in tight corners. Technology evolution on show
Pay attention!
The 35th Northland Field Days will be marked on February 28, March 1 and 2 and whilst the show itself has retained the same energy and community spirit, there have been many improvements for both exhibitors and visitors alike. Many of our exhibitors will be taking part in our theme of 35 years of evolution in technology, so there will be lots of amazing exhibits to be seen. Most of the original Northland Field Day events still take centre stage with good ol’ Kiwi attractions such as tractor pull competitions, sheep shearing shows and of course the ever-popular sheepdog trials. The Northland Field Days has a strong family focus with a family pass available for only $30 — see our website for more information. There will be a vast range of attractions for the smallest visitors including a mobile farm, sheep racing, Clydesdale rides, plus a variety of fairground rides and delicious food stalls to top it all off. The Dargaville Fire Brigade will be back running a mock firefighting course providing an interactive and fun way for all of our visitors to get fire wise. Bring the family for a good old-fashioned day out with Northland Field Days.

B+LNZ’s CEO Sam McIvor said that New Zealand is one of the United Kingdom’s oldest and most significant trading partners and the signing of this agreement will provide reassurance to farmers and exporters. “The United Kingdom accounts for $560 million worth of the sector’s exports dominated by sheep meat which represents 85 per cent of that total.” MIA chief executive Tim Ritchie says since the Brexit vote in 2016 there has been a lot of uncertainty for the sector. “The signing of the Veterinary Agreement, together with the recent advice from the UK about the acceptance of EU Health Certificates post-March 29 2019, means that the sector is assured that existing regulations will remain the same — helping to alleviate some of the immediate concerns exporters have.” The Veterinary Agreement is key to New Zealand’s sheep and beef exports to Europe as it establishes the principle of equivalence of sanitary measures and has reduced many potential trade irritants. It has improved communication and cooperation on sanitary measures and has streamlined requirements to facilitate trade — the same will now apply to the UK. “The UK is an important market for New Zealand high value chilled lamb exports, and Brexit falls at a critical
time of our Easter trade. It is important that all steps be taken to secure continuity and stability for our exporters through the Brexit process,“ says Mr Ritchie. “While we still need to work to get clarity around how our quota rights will be recognised, we support Prime Minister Ardern’s statement that New Zealand should not be left worse off as a result of Brexit — with our top priority being continuity and stability, which is in everyone’s interest, including the UK’s. “We want to work with the UK to ensure we can continue to build an even stronger relationship and it is important that both governments put contingency plans in place to ensure trade Tim Ritchie, Meat Industry Association chief executive continues regardless of any Brexit outcome. forward to continuing to work with the “Once the UK is in a position to do so, governments of New Zealand and the the sector fully supports the negotiation United Kingdom, industry partners, and of a high-quality free trade agreement the New Zealand Meat Board to address that addresses each side’s priority remaining issues as we prepare for any interests. B+LNZ and the MIA look Brexit scenario.”

Facial eczema costs With the warm, wet and humid conditions we have already been seeing, it is gearing up to be a high-risk facial eczema season with reports of spores already. Firstly, some cold hard facts that we just don’t want to hear. From a survey and blood sampling study of more than 100 farms, we found that 93% of farms reported that they had some form of FE management in place. Yet, more than 33% of farms had cows with facial eczema liver damage, less than one per cent blood sampled and checked their cows to see if their control mechanisms were working, and 74% of farms that gave zinc were not getting the correct concentrations into the cows. Why is there this huge mismatch? It likely boils down to two things. Facial eczema is complex and misunderstood, particularly around what it does to the animal, and it is perceived to be difficult and costly to control. Facial eczema is a disease of the liver and not a skin disease! Until vets work out an easy way to look inside a cow, the only way we can tell if your facial eczema plan is working is to blood sample a selection of cows for zinc levels and liver damage. We can all relate to the horrible welfare issue of a clinical FE cow, and the deaths that can result. It has been difficult to put a financial cost on FE up until recently as we haven’t known the full effects it has. VetEnt Research has just completed the first year of a very large study looking at the cost of FE in dairy cows. We won’t bore you with all the details, but the early findings were as follows: • After blood sampling all animals in eight herds, we found 21% of all animals with evidence of moderate or severe liver damage.

Daily milk production loss in a herd with sub-clinical FE: The arrow is where the VetEnt team blood sampled to confirm facial eczema liver damage
• Only 2.7% of animals with liver damage due to FE had skin eczema clinical signs! • Animals with liver damage due to FE had 0.2 kg MS lower milk production on average compared to animals that had normal livers — this effect extended out to beyond a month of reduced milk production. • Cows that had subclinical FE damage were more likely to be dried off approximately one month earlier,
without any evidence of clinical signs. • It adds up to an average cost of FE for a 500 cow herd of approximately $9,000 for the milk production loss alone, ignoring any deaths, culls, body condition and repro losses. Hopefully, this has given you something to think about. If you have any questions or need further information, please give your VetEnt clinic a call to plan your facial eczema season.

Chemical free steam cleaning
Reliability from AGroQuip
‘You name it; we clean it’ is the mantra of Lynne and Graeme Murray at Evo Steam Cleaning, who offer a chemical-free cleaning solution for your farm.
Les Gudgeon and his wife Dolina milk 220 cows on an 81ha property situated at Hinuera in the heart of Waikato dairy country. It’s all about the cows, with a focus on growing good crops for grazing and the surplus made into winter feed.
The husband and wife team steam clean cow and goat dairy sheds, removing the build-up of fats and chemicals around machinery whilst fulfilling current compliance regulations. They also cover residential houses ensuring they are sanitary on the interior — not just on farms, but lifestyle blocks as well. “House interiors have become an important issue, and steam cleaning helps ensure they are sanitary, especially with a change of occupants. We often do these at the same time we do sheds to make it easy,” says Lynne. “Graeme and I both understand how chemicals can cause damage and build to dangerous levels on all surfaces. We see the consequences this does to your main assets including your home, health, animals and business on a daily basis. We pride ourselves on the fact that we can help to keep you free of chemicals.” The steam cleaning process can be used on mildew, moss and lichen, feed pits, palm kernel, troughs and tanks, farm buildings and drains, as well as other areas. It is important for palm kernel to be sanitary, as it is imported. “The process we use helps eliminate rotavirus and infections in stock. Other reasons calving and shearing sheds are important to clean are because the sterilisation process removes bacteria, bird excrement, insect, dust, cobwebs and more.” Evo Steam Cleaning can decontaminate yards and lanes and assist with external

farmhouse maintenance using hightemperature cleaning processes. “We also clean farm machinery from grease, oil and dirt. It includes tillage and seeding equipment, loaders, tractors, trailers, trucks, 4WD, motorbikes, quad bikes, sprayers, spreaders and harvesters. “We run a fully self-contained mobile unit with its own power supply, only requiring water to tap into and we do our best to fit in with milking times. We service the greater Waikato area including Matamata, Morrinsville, Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Tirau, Tauranga and beyond. Call us on 022 310 1549.”

A reliable main tractor is a must, so having run John Deere tractors previously, when it came time for an upgrade, the Gudgeons settled on a John Deere 5100M ROPS. With two years and 1,200 hours use, the four-cylinder 100hp tractor handles tasks with ease and certainly earns its keep. Les singles out the ease of access offered by the flat-platform ROPS layout as a great feature, while also noting the stability of the tractor on the farms rolling terrain; shod with duals to help the cause, the heavy cast frame helps keep the centre of gravity low, imparting confidence, even Les Gudgeon putting his 5100M to work with 1,000kg rounds of baleage on board. offers clutchless forward or reverse movement, A factory-fitted John Deere H310 loader a splitter and 40kph. Stink bugs in mail

People are reminded to check online purchases after an infestation of Brown Marmorated stink bugs recently got through border biosecurity checks. MPI says this is a warning to people purchasing items over the internet and with the booming uptake in couriers delivering parcels from overseas, MPI Biosecurity’s are encouraging people to take the right steps if they find insects or plant material in their packages. A man recently found 26 Brown Marmorated stink bugs in a box of shoes ordered over the internet. The bugs got through biosecurity measures at the New Zealand border. On opening the parcel, the man immediately took the shoes and wrapping to his bathroom, closed the door and window, and called the Ministry for Primary Industries. The insects were quickly contained and killed, to no longer pose a biosecurity threat. Biosecurity is critical for many people’s jobs, and livelihoods rely on healthy agriculture and orchards. Even if you are not working directly in these areas, your lifestyle and income rely on that economy not being devastated by stink bugs or any other pests. It is not physically possible for MPI to check every parcel, so all New Zealanders need to be biosecurity watchdogs and alert MPI immediately if you find insects or plant material in any parcel from overseas. The stink bug is a major problem in parts of North America after being accidentally introduced from Asia. It is also established in Europe and South America, and many insecticides are not effective controlling it. There are also other insects and plant pests that have the potential to ruin

A kiwi swimwear solution Covertogs swimwear has been lovingly designed as a solution for women who feel uncomfortable in regular swimwear. As its name suggests, Covertogs are made to cover bumps, lumps and scars and provide much more adequate sun protection than conventional swimwear. The concept was born when company director Karen Newton found that she couldn’t find swimwear that she could get excited about; everything available was too skimpy, or too frumpy, hard to get in and out of and uncomfortable for lounging around the pool or walking along the beach. After some tweaking, hard work and lots of fun, the Covertogs brand was launched. Covertogs is a family business owned and run by Karen Newton and her husband, Bruce Adlam. Each piece is carefully designed and made here, making Covertogs a 100% New Zealand brand. The fabric used is imported from Italy; it is chlorine resistant (so the stretchy elastin fibres won’t break down in swimming pools and spas), fast drying and sun safe with a UV rating of 50+. Excited customers say they love the freedom that Covertogs give them; “Thanks to Covertogs, I have gone from someone who avoided swimming to someone who can’t keep out of the water!” says one happy customer. Thoughtfully designed and beautifully constructed, Covertogs really is a new brand of swimwear for swimming and sun-smart women.

By providing quality solutions that last the test of time, the business has thrived and grown and now with a team of 10plus, able to give the quick response to breakdowns 24/7 that the company is renowned for. For more than 40 years Graham and Lynne Silvester have been setting a high standard for service. Now the next generation Damian Silvester is stepping up and keeping the same emphasis on quality service, quality workmanship and quality products which results in a finish that saves money in the long run, something, which they feel has been lost to most companies. “Too often we are going to new sites and fixing systems because the electrician was too concerned with just getting it going
and not doing the job right. People are having to pay for this corner-cutting for the rest of the system’s life”. In the current era of farming, government and corporate compliance demands require high-cost upgrades for milk cooling, effluent management and water quality. It is important to make sure installations are done properly by a team with experience and knowledge of the pros and cons of different systems and different control options. Just because a system works well at one site, doesn’t mean it will be right for the next. Silvester’s like to talk to their customers and get a feel what they are looking for, then discuss with them, other options that they may not even be aware of. From there they come up with

Real Hope For Long Term Back Pain Sufferers
5
After more than ten years in New Zealand, Teeter Hang-Ups have now gained a reputation for success with long-term sufferers of Back pain. Inversion New Zealand was started by Dave and Nancy Hare, Dave had suffered over twenty years of back pain from Degenerated Discs and had basically given up and decided to just live with it. “To me surgery was never an option” he said “as long as I still could walk, there was hope”. Dave had tried everything; every time he was overseas he would search for anything that could possibly help. While on one of these overseas trips ten years ago, Dave discovered the Teeter Hang-Ups. “The first time I tried it, the pain disappeared and I was completely pain free for about 30 minutes, nothing had done that” he told me. Dave never believed it would fix him, “as specialists had told me it was irreversible, I now knew I had a place to go every time I wanted some serious relief”.
To Dave’s surprise the more he used the table the longer the pain stayed away, until after nearly three months he was completely pain free, “I couldn’t believe it’ he told me “I had spent large amounts of money on every form of treatment available and here
Inversion NZ Ltd 0800 62 62 83 www.inversionnz.co.nz
was something I had never heard of sorting it out for me in a very short period of time” It was then Dave decided to introduce Teeter into New Zealand and Inversion NZ was born.
Over the years INZ have helped thousands of people get some serious relief and have seen results in not only backs, but necks, hips, knees, posture, circulation and lots more.
Inversion helps to: • Relieve Back Pain • Relieve Neck Pain • Relieve Muscle Tension • Stimulate Blood And Lymph Flow • Improve Posture • Increase Flexability
“We have testimonials from people with over fifty years of back problems and even have them in a number of schools in New Zealand for their special needs children” he told me, “the blood to the brain helps these kids and the results are excellent” What this means for the aging population is that it helps maintain the health of the brain as we all get older. Dave told me that he realised that, had he not tried the Teeter for himself he would still be suffering, “I would still be a miserable grumpy bugger, living with pain, that is why we do the shows, people need to try it for themselves” he told me “most people actually get off with the pain either gone or considerably less” he said “we let the tables do the talking”
Frank Harwood (84) of Turangi using his Teeter, Frank has been Inverting for over eight years and has found it keeps him young
Come and see us at one of our shows for a free treatment (Check out the red bar for details)
IT IS PURE LOGIC AS TO HOW THE TEETER TABLE WORKS
Discs:
It uses gravity to apply traction, the traction gently opens the discs and as they open up they create suction, this suction draws fluid from the surrounding tissue back into the discs, re-hydrating them. This is the key! Discs do not have their own blood supply, they rely on trans fer of fluid from the surrounding tissue to keep them healthy and hydrated and over the years as discs get thinner with age, they lose the ability to take on fluid (just like squeezing a sponge) and they start to de-hydrate.
Posture: Poor
posture is one of the major cases of pain and is a major contributor to the deterioration of the body with age. A difference in leg length causes most of the hip and knee issues, as they continue to place uneven loads on the joints; similar to the wheels out of alignment on your car. Trying to correct posture is extremely difficult due to muscle memory, as it constantly pulls the muscles back to where they were. At a level of 40 degrees or more on the Teeter, the muscle groups open up and eventually come back into alignment, using the table daily, does not allow the muscle memory to pull them back out of alignment and slowly the muscles start to lose their memory and go with the flow, allowing the body to come back into correct posture. Then using the table once a day will ensure it is kept there.
De-Hydrated discs are less flexible, they are harder, more prone to injury, they interfere with nerve roots creating pain and ultimately the de-hydration causes degen eration. The Teeter Inversion table slowly and gently brings the hydration back into the discs, plumping them up. It separates the nerve roots far more effectively and This is pure logic, if a machine is out of returns quality of life
Muscles: A lot of pain is muscular, when
muscles are stressed they become tight which restricts the flow of blood and lymph through the muscles so toxins build up, Co2 and Lactic Acid. Traction opens up the muscles, Rhythmic Traction, is a gentle rocking motion that stimulates circulation and encourages blood flow through the muscles, which clears the lactic acid into your lymph system where it stimulates lymph flow and deals with it. Most people with serious neck issues see a large improvement after only one treatment.

alignment it does not last long, the only difference between the body and a machine is that the body is constantly repairing itself, however if the wear and tear on the body is greater than the body’s ability to repair itself, it is a slow decline. The Teeter slowly brings the body out of its decline and allows the body to repair itself, resulting in a far healthier life.
If you are serious about investing in your health and really sorting your issues out, come see us at one of our local roadshows, you have nothing to lose and chances are, a lot to gain.
STRATFORD
BACK or NECK PAIN? Here in New Zealand,
Dr Giresh Kanji, one of the countries most respected Pain Specialists completed a PhD on how humans experience pain and then researched lower back pain, writing "Fix Your Back" and then spent a few years researching neck pain, headache and migraine and wrote "Fix Your Neck Pain, Headache & Migraine", both books are in most bookstores. Dr Kanji discovered in the research that the disc is the most likely source of low back pain and Inversion showed the best results of all the trials conducted. Three studies showed a 60% reduction in pain and one showed a 75% reduction in surgery for people with disc prolapse. Dr Kanji endorses Inversion as the best method to manage back pain, he has personally been using the Teeter Inversion tables for his own low back pain, has Teeter Inversion tables at both of his clinics in Wellington (The Sports and Pain Clinic) and has had such success that he is now conducting the largest study in the World on Inversion Therapy. In his own words, "these things are gold and inversion should be a first line treatment for low back pain”. *Dr Kanji does not recieve royalties from the sale of Teeter Inversion Tables
