AMBLESIDE PARK

FESTIVAL 2016

www.cohofestival.com

WELCOME TO THE 37TH ANNUAL

Zone has more than 30 exhibitors eager to share their knowledge and expertise on how you can be Stewards for our environment. Look for ‘Tent Talks’ located at the back of the Stewardship Zone.

The Coho Society of the North Shore is in its fourth decade of raising public awareness of current and potential threats to local waterways and fisheries and helping to resolve these issues through protecting, enhancing and restoring salmonid habitats. The festival is the main fundraiser to be able to support these efforts.

Starting at 12noon, topics include how our herring are coming back to our waters, updates to the Seymour River rock slide, what to do if you see something alive in our ocean, and how we are preserving heritage in our parks. Don’t miss our NEW Tug-Of-War competition between esteemed members of our emergency responders (fire, police etc) - they will need your cheers to help them win the coveted trophy.

Coho Festival

This year we are so excited to announce that Chilliwack will be performing on our main stage. From the Coho Swim, Run and Walk to the famous Salmon BBQ, there’s something for everyone. This year’s BBQ features Coho salmon, corn-on-the cob and salad greens all provided by Save-On-Foods. Again this year, the Squamish Nation Canoe Family will give their traditional “Blessing of the Salmon” at the Opening Ceremonies, and at the Village, Nation Ambassadors will share stories. The Squamish Nation have donated 2 beautiful salmon wood carvings so make sure you buy your draw ticket for one or participate in the silent auction for the other. Kids Park will be as fun as ever with a climbing wall, table tennis, bouncy castles, a Sand Art Party and the Vancouver Aquarium’s Touch Tanks. A new activity is the Bike Rodeo where kids of all ages can ride their bike through an obstacle track. Bring your own bike or borrow one on hand. Kids will be encouraged to participate in a Vanleena dance and/or Champion martial arts. Oh and there’s popcorn, cotton candy and ice cream to enjoy! The Stewardship

Larry Carlsen, Coho Society of the North Shore President, and Sherry Parrott, Coho Festival Chair welcome you to the annual Coho Festival.

The Coho Festival is a Zero Waste Event, so please take home what you bring and deposit all used items in the appropriate bins at one of the recycling stations. In keeping with the focus on helping our environment – we ask that you walk, ride your bike or take transit. There is a secure bike valet on site. This year we are selling coffee – but please bring your own cup to this zero-waste event! The main goal of the Coho Festival is to raise funds and create awareness for various North Shore stewardship groups that assist in protecting and sustaining our salmon. Check the map and schedules on the next few pages so you will not miss any of the fabulous activities and all-day entertainment we have to offer. We hope to see you at Ambleside Park on September 11.

It’s Salmon Season! Fresh, wild Salmon has now arrived

Ask us about the many ways to cook this firm, lean, sweet-flavoured and nutrient-dense fish. Canadians are wild about their salmon. In fact, Canada is one of the largest salmon exporters in the world! Wild salmon is loaded with protein and the two blockbuster omega 3s — DHA and EPA — that help make us happy, smart and pain-free. As the body can’t make omega-3 fatty acids, the best way to obtain them is through the food we eat. Available in whole, fillet and steak portions.
