The Provincial SVT definitely covers North Vancouver. If you have a home in North Vancouver, you will need to comply with the requirements of the SVT. Based on the information provided on the Government website, most homeowners will be exempt from paying the tax BUT in order to benefit from an exemption, an annual Declaration must be submitted to the Province by March 31, 2019. The Declaration can be done by phone or online. Most homeowners will be exempt from the tax; the Province is estimating less than 1% of owners will pay the tax. There are a number of exemptions; the most used will be the exemption for home owners who are living in their home as their principal residence. There are a number of other exemptions, some of which apply on an ongoing basis, and others which give temporary relief. The latter category includes situations where a homeowner has moved into long term care or is out of their home because they are carrying out extensive renovations.
