Joined US Army at age 18 in 1940. Served with the 101st Airborne Division in England, France, Italy and Belgium. Harvey started out as a Medic, then retrained as a Paratrooper in England. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Discharged in 1947.

After leaving St. Paul’s Residential School she volunteered at age 18 in 1941 to serve with the Canadian Women’s Corps. She trained in Vermillion, Alberta. She was stationed in Victoria until 1945.

Volunteered at age 40 on Dec. 6, 1941. He was trained in small arms and demolitions, but served with the Canadian Forestry Corps in Glasgow. The C.F.C. produced railway ties.

Volunteered at age 18 in 1941. He served with the Sea Forth Highlanders in Italy and France. Milton drove a supply truck in the convoys and was also an ambulance driver. He was wounded when his truck went over a land mine.

Having recently celebrated Thanksgiving Day, it is coincidentally appropriate that Canadians now prepare for another annual tribute of gratitude, one we know as Remembrance Day. In recognizing our indebtedness to those (2! 3,"509"8; 3! &/"2 that we might live in peace and freedom, we honour their memory with Remembrance Day services across our land, from the largest city to the smallest hamlet. Poppies too, are respectfully worn in appreciation of our fallen heroes.
However, what are the !5040#3 ,#; 304#09",#"8 !6 the emblematic poppy? Devastated by the thundering destruction !6 0#"833,#1 ,510''85% 958+ 128 $,11'898';3 !6 128 First World War (191418) were wastelands virtually barren of plant life. Yet inexplicably, thousands of springtime .',#;853 :!::083 7!(858; across those grey, hellish landscapes of shellcraters, churned smoking mud, and blood-soaked carnage. It was while grieving the $,11'898'; ;8,12 !6 , friend, and treating the wounded at Ypres in May of 1915, that Canadian

for their war veterans. Shortly thereafter, Britain and its colonies also adopted this emblem, and its principles of supporting veterans and their families. In addition, a French woman, Madame Anna E. Guerin inspired France to embrace the poppy for the same reasons. Until her death in 1944, Moina Belle Michael – affectionately known as “the Poppy Lady” – devoted 26 years of her life to having the poppy recognized as an emblem of remembrance. In Canada, an Act of Parliament in 1948 granted trademark copyright to the Royal Canadian Legion, that they may preserve the poppy as a sacred symbol of the 3,"509"8 !6 !/5 )8185,#3* Today, in a direct link to Michael’s humanitarian vision, money raised by the Royal Canadian Legion’s poppy campaign
continues to provide support for veterans and their families. While not mandatory, the correct protocol in wearing a poppy is for it to be on the left lapel – closest to the heart – in recognition !6 128 3,"509"83 &,;8 0# times of war. John McCrae did not survive the war. Weary and weakened, and far from home, he died in France of pneumonia and meningitis on Jan. 28, 1918. The year in which, impassioned by In Flanders Fields, Moina Belle Michael responded by writing an equally beautiful poem, We Shall Keep the Faith* -28 9#,' verse addresses why we wear the “Poppy Red.” And now the Torch and Poppy Red We wear in honour of our dead. Fear not that ye have died for naught; We’ll teach the lesson that ye wrought In Flanders Fields.

North Vancouver resident (age 9!) proudly served in the Second World War and is the last living member of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in this area. Long standing member of Branch #8 Bornewest and Branch 118 Legion of North Vancouver.
Volunteered at age 33 in 1943 with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He arrived in Liverpool on Jan. 17, 1945, on the SS Mauritania. In the early morning hours he heard the bombing of V-2 rockets in the distance. Peter served in England for 20 months.

Served in the Canadian Army during WWII. Bomb Girl in Ajax Ont., Motor Pool Halifax and Vancouver. Residing in West Vancouver, age 91. Honoured by her 8 children and a husband of 59 years.

Served in the RAF as a Link Trainer during World War II, 1940 to 1946. Lived to the ripe old age of 95. What a life!

We Remember the sacrifices made by all who serve our country
Volunteered in ’42, at 20 w/ the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada in England, France, Holland and Italy. Wounded carrying a message across front lines. Slept for 3 days, awoke with scars on hip where doctors removed shrapnel. Received 7 medals.
