Northwest Craftsman with a modern touch

A modern edge with a mix of both metal and natural textures

This Northwest Craftsman style home is infused with modern elements.

Jessica Frakes, Aspen Home’s interior designer, gave the traditional Craftsman gable roof a modern twist by incorporating metal and minimizing the decorative brackets under the eaves. Natural wood and stone finishes throughout the home continue the classic Craftsman style, while Frakes incorporated updated fixtures and the downstairs flex room’s metal and glass barn doors for a modern touch.

“I love mixing and matching materials to create a design that’s unique and interesting, and I think we accomplished that,” Frakes said. A large foyer welcomes guests into the nearly 3,000-square-foot home, and an open floor plan with a large living space connected to the kitchen is the perfect space for entertaining. and two full bathrooms. A striking powder room is available for guests’ use in the main living area, and the game room above the garage has its own half bath.

“This home is very dramatic, and each room has something stunning about it,” said Frakes. “The powder room is my favorite; it has black painted board-and-batten walls with a crystal chandelier that really make the accents pop.”

Frakes carried black and white throughout the home, allowing the homeowner to use whatever accent colors to make it their own.

Black kitchen cabinets add depth and contrast against the contemporary white tiles and quartz countertops. The butler’s pantry features custom cabinets with granite countertops, and a full tile backsplash as well as a built-in

Timber beams and hardwood floors are continued throughout the home, while knotty alder wood doors and trim tie the living areas together for.

“This gives the home a lot of texture and adds to the effect I was trying to create…something comfortable to live in and modern at the same time,” Frakes said.

An extended back patio and a gas rock firepit with natural surroundings provide additional living and entertaining space in the backyard.

“I really love the end result because it feels modern and slightly retro, edgy yet elegant, all at the same time,” Frakes said. N

“The oversized tree ring tile with the Calcutta polished tile in the master shower turned out beautiful; it’s very ‘Zen’ like,” said designer Frakes. “I wanted a spa feel with a natural element.”
