The Science Museum The Science Museum is packed with awe-inspiring galleries, inspirational exhibitions and interactive resources. Here, your group can explore the galleries such as Launch Pad, where students can explore science and technology first-hand with 50 hands-on exhibits and shows. The museum also regularly runs a series of events and shows covering all elements of science and has a great range of free educational resources available.

The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair

NST is an exclusive school tours partner to the UK’s Big Bang showcasing in ExCel London on 14th-17th March 2013. The Big Bang offers a unique opportunity for your students to interact with and understand - at first hand how they can make an impact on the world through science.

The Thames Barrier Visitor Centre This barrier defence located on the Thames River in London offers a thoughtprovoking insight into flood prevention. Here, your students will learn about how the barriers work, how they were constructed and future strategies to prevent flooding in London.

Devoted to science education and research, The Royal Institution will give your students the opportunity to explore the world-changing science that's taken place since 1799. Aiming to promote curiosity and investigation-led learning, this modern laboratory offers advanced technology, use of equipment not used at school level and experiments outside of the normal school remit. The centre has a fascinating range of full and half day workshops including: Make and Test your own shampoo (Age 9 – 12 yrs) Students perform their own experiments with the help of some ionic chemistry to make several versions of their own shampoo and to see how they perform in tests against commercial products. Extract your own DNA (Age 10 - 13 yrs) Students will learn about the DNA molecule and extract their own DNA which they can make into a necklace to take away. High Velocity Eggsporter (Age 14-18 yrs) Build and crash test a vehicle on a specially designed rig then analyse the results using high speed photography - learn about forces in a very practical way!

Centre of the Cell

Forensics Workshop (Age 14 - 18 yrs) Your students will experience what it would be like to work in a forensics laboratory by investigating a fictional crime scene scenario. A great introduction to genetics and forensic analysis with the opportunity to use modern molecular biological techniques to test DNA samples. A Question of Taste (Age 16 - 18 yrs) In this genetics workshop, students will extract and test their own DNA using modern techniques and equipment normally only found in research laboratories to compare their phenotype with their genotype.

CERN, Geneva

This compact metropolis offers fascinating visits that will open your students’ minds to the immense possibilities of science. CERN offers innumerable learning opportunities for your students, however there are also fantastic visits in the surrounding areas which explore key study themes, including evolution, theoretical physics, particle matter and the history of science.

CERN There’s nothing quite like seeing physics in action to spark your students’ interest in science. The world’s largest particle physics research laboratory will do just that, taking your students on a journey into science. Home to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), at CERN your students will learn about this gigantic scientific instrument and be able to observe it from the viewing area.

Book early to avoid disappointment! Guided tours Your group’s tour of CERN will follow a variety of themes (depending on the day) including ‘Detecting Particles’, ‘Discovering Antimatter’ or ‘The accelerators of the future’ and comprises an introduction, a short film and a visit to one of the experiments and/or to an accelerator located at the surface. All tours are guided by staff members involved with CERN.

Exhibitions Groups can choose between two multimedia exhibitions - Universe of Particles - a fascinating look at the world of particles from the Big Bang to the present day, or Microcosm - students will explore the mysteries of the universe and discover the massive apparatus used by scientists.
