Norfolk State Quick Facts The Spartans are coming off an 80-64 loss to another 757 rival. On Tuesday, Old Dominion came to Joseph Echols Hall for its first visit to NSU since the late 1960’s. ODU’s lead was just one late in the game, but the Monarchs pulled ahead at the end thanks to a closing 18-5 run. That came after the Spartans started the year off with a pair of wins over state of Virginia opponents, including an 83-73 victory at James Madison to start the season. NSU, which carries a 2-1 record, also defeated Radford 57-54 at JMU’s Atlantic Union Bank Center. The Spartans ended last year at 16-15 overall, 12-4 in the MEAC, good for a second-place finish in the league standings. NSU’s season ended before its first game in the MEAC Tournament due to COVID-19. Nevertheless, the Spartans returned 10 letterwinners from a year ago. Hampton Quick Facts The Pirates began their season last Tuesday by knocking off George Washington on the road, 82-78. Like NSU, Hampton was scheduled to face William & Mary, but their game set for last Thursday was cancelled due to a positive COVID-19 test in William & Mary’s program. Davion Warren led HU in its upset of George Washington with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Shelton and Edward Oliver-Hampton contributed 19 and 18 points, respectively. The Pirates won after hitting 10 3-pointers and despite allowing GWU to shoot nearly 47 percent for the game. Hampton is coming off a 15-19 campaign last year, a season that ended with a loss to Winthrop in the Big South Championship final.
