MEN’S BASKETBALL • NSU BY THE NUMBERS •
2 - The number of times this year NSU has rallied from a last-minute deficit to win. The Spartans did so at George Mason and again on Jan. 17 in an overtime win at DSU. 14 - In all 14 games this year, the Spartans have gotten more scoring from their bench than the opposition. 9 - Over the last nine games, NSU has scored more points in the second halves than first halves in 8 of those contests. 13 - Devante Carter has scored in double figures in 13 of the team’s 14 games this year. The only game he didn’t was against North Carolina Wesleyan, when he had six points. 22 - For the last 22 years, NSU has finished .500 or better in the MEAC. Only six other Division I teams in the nation have a longer streak of finishing .500 or better in conference play.

Norfolk State at a Glance The Spartans are looking to rebound after falling twice at first-place Coppin State last weekend, 8171 and 81-77. That dropped NSU to 3-3 in the league and 8-6 overall. Joe Bryant Jr. had 21 points in the first game to lead the Spartans, and Devante Carter added 15 points in game 2 when NSU rallied from a 15-point deficit to nearly come away with the win. Carter (14.0 points) and J.J. Matthews (10.5 points) are the team’s top two scorers. Bryant has come on as of late and is now up to 9.7 points. Delaware State at a Glance The Hornets are still searching for their first win of the season after last losing to Morgan State on Sunday. They already fell to NSU twice earlier this month at DSU, including a four-point overtime loss in game 2 of that series. The Hornets sit 0-5 in the league, 0-10 overall. Myles Carter (20 points, game 1) and Pinky Wiley (29 points, game 2) led the way for the Hornets against the Spartans, and Carter is the team’s top scorer at 14.8 points with a team-best 4.8 rebounds. Wiley (13.1 points) also scores in double figures. The team’s defense, though, gives up nearly 90 points per game, second-to-last in the nation. Series History The Spartans ran their win streak to eight over Delaware State after the two wins earlier this month, and they now own a 39-24 lead in the all-time series with DSU that began in 1962-63. NSU has won 12 of the last 13 meetings, with the only loss coming on the road by three points, 67-64, on Feb. 20, 2016. The Spartans have won five straight at home versus DSU, with the last loss coming in 2011-12.
