Norfolk State at a Glance The Norfolk State women’s basketball team split its two conference games against North Carolina Central last weekend at the Echols Hall. Last Saturday, the Spartans overcame a 14-point first-half deficit to earn their first MEAC win of the year, 69-64. Jalynn Holmes scored 18 points to lead four Spartans in double figures. Jaiden Morris added 14, E’Lexus Davis 13 and Mangela Ngandjui 12 for NSU. On Sunday, the Eagles returned the favor, rallying back from a nine-point first-half deficit to win 5744. Anissa Rivera had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles. Holmes continues to pace NSU in scoring, at 12.6 points per game. Morris (11.8) and Ngandjui (10.0) also average double figures. S.C. State at a Glance South Carolina State dropped its fifth consecutive game on Tuesday, a 53-43 non-conference loss at Western Carolina. The Bulldogs shot just 31 percent and were outrebounded 41-24. Trinity Klock had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs. Guard Heniaya Moton averages a team-high 13.3 points per game for SCSU. Klock averages 11.6 points. Klock got off to a fast start in MEAC play, scoring 35 points in SCSU’s two conference losses to North Carolina A&T earlier this month. Series History Norfolk State leads the all-time series with South Carolina State, 24-18. The Spartans have dominated it as of late, winning the last six meetings. In fact, head coach Larry Vickers is 6-1 against SCSU in his career. SCSU’s last win over NSU was a 60-52 win over the Spartans in Vickers’ first game as interim coach in 2016.
