Norfolk State Quick Facts The Spartans topped George Mason on Dec. 26 on the road to finish non-conference play at 4-3, which included wins over James Madison, Radford and Hampton. NSU, which was picked to finish first in the MEAC Northern Division, had its games last weekend against Howard postponed. Four players scored in double figures against George Mason, including the team’s leading scorer Devante Carter with 12 points. At 16.1 points per game, he is one of two Spartans in double figures for the season along with fellow senior J.J. Matthews (10.3). NSU’s defense continues to play well. The Spartans rank 11th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (37.2 percent) and 15th in 3-point field goal percentage defense (26.2 percent). On the offensive side, they also rank 14th in 3-point shooting at 40.2 percent. Morgan State Quick Facts The Bears are coming off an 80-73 win over James Madison on the road on Sunday that ran their record to 4-2. They also picked up wins over Iona and Delaware this year. Like NSU, Morgan State will kick off MEAC play this weekend. De’Torrion Ware (18 points) and Troy Baxter (15 points) led Morgan State in the upset of JMU a little more than a month after the Spartans also upset the Dukes. Baxter (16.5 points) and Ware (10.2) are two of four MSU players who average in double figures for the season. Malik Miller (12.8 points, 8.0 rebounds) and Lagio Grantsaan (11.7 points) are the others. The Bears were picked to finish second in the Nothern Division behind NSU.
