• MATCHUP GAME NOTES •

Norfolk State at a Glance The Norfolk State women’s basketball team plays its first game in 19 days when the Spartans take on William & Mary on Sunday. The game is the last scheduled for NSU before the holiday break. The Spartans had games earlier this month against Robert Morris, William & Mary and Richmond canceled or postponed. In NSU’s last action, Liberty outscored the Spartans 42-16 in the middle two quarters to pull away for a 76-53 win over on Dec. 1 in Lynchburg. The Flames shot 58 percent in the second half. Jalynn Holmes scored 15 points and Mangela Ngandjui had 10 and seven rebounds for NSU, which shot a season-low 24.6 percent from the floor. Holmes has led NSU in scoring in each of the team’s first three games and is tied for the MEAC lead, averaging 17 points per game. W&M at a Glance The Tribe evened its record at 2-2 with a 48-43 road win at George Mason on Wednesday. Sydney Wagner scored a career-high 27 points for the Tribe, which held GMU to 27.8 percent shooting, including 1-of-16 from 3-point range. The Tribe led by as many as 18 points only to see its lead cut to one in the fourth quarter, but held on behind Wagner’s career day. Bailey Eichner grabbed 10 rebounds for W&M. Wagner is averaging a team-best 19.5 points per game for W&M, more than one-third of the Tribe’s 52.5 average. W&M is holding opponents to just 59 points per game so far this year. Series History William & Mary leads the all-time series against the Spartans, 15-8. NSU won the first six meetings and seven of the first eight, then the Tribe won 12 straight before the Spartans’ 80-74 overtime win during the 2017-18 season. W&M has taken the last two matchups. This year marks the sixth straight season in which the teams will face one another. The Tribe won 65-56 in last year’s matchup in Williamsburg.
