• MATCHUP GAME NOTES •
Norfolk State at a Glance The Spartans are returning from an off week after last playing on Feb. 13 and 14 at Morgan State. A sweep of the Bears put NSU in first in the MEAC Northern Division at 7-4, ahead of both MSU and Coppin State (6-4). After Wednesday’s game, NSU will have just one non-conference game left at home against St. Mary’s College before the MEAC Tournament. Devante Carter averged 19.5 points in the two games at MSU, bumping his season average to a team-best 15.8 points while also earning last week’s MEAC Player of the Week award. Joe Bryant Jr. is the only other player in double figures at 10.7 points for a team that averages nearly 75 per game. Delaware State at a Glance The Hornets are coming off a 75-58 win over St. Mary’s College on Sunday. They now sit 2-12 overall but winless in conference play at 0-7. DSU will play two games at home against Coppin State this weekend, while their games this past weekend against MSU were postponed. Zach Kent had 19 points and 11 rebounds in Sunday’s win, with Pinky Wiley (16) and Myles Carter (14) also reaching double figures in scoring. Carter leads the team with 15.1 points and 5.0 rebounds, and Wiley sits at 12.4 points. The Hornets score 71 points per game but also give up nearly 86. Series History The Spartans ran their win streak to nine over Delaware State after a 94-66 win on Jan. 30, and they now own a 40-24 lead in the all-time series with DSU that began in 1962-63. NSU has won 13 of the last 14 meetings, with the only loss coming on the road by three points, 67-64, on Feb. 20, 2016. The Spartans have won six straight at home versus DSU, with the last loss coming in 2011-12.
