Norfolk State at a Glance The Spartans are coming off a 94-66 win over Delaware State last Saturday that bumped their overall record to 9-6 and their MEAC mark to 4-3. Sunday’s game was postponed due to weather. Both NSU and Coppin State are chasing Morgan State, which has two losses in MEAC play to lead the division. Joe Bryant Jr. finished with 24 points, sinking six 3-pointers as the Spartans made 15 shots from beyond the arc. A preseason All-MEAC second-team honoree, he is now up to 11.0 points per game. Leading scorer Devante Carter (14.3 points per game) added 18 points against the Hornets. NSU is averaging nearly 75 points per game, which would rank as the most since the turn of the century. Coppin State at a Glance The Eagles fell to 5-3 in the MEAC and 6-11 overall after a pair of defeats in the past week at home at the hands of Morgan State. CSU has already beaten NSU twice this year, 81-71 and 81-77 on its home court on Jan. 23 and 24, respectively. Anthony Tarke had 22 points and 10 rebounds in Tuesday’s 95-82 loss to MSU. The stat stuffer averages 16.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 3.1 steals and 1.9 blocks per game. Dejuan Clayton is second on the team with 15.3 points. The Eagles are great at forcing turnovers (17.0 per game), but they struggle on the boards to the tune of a -11.7 rebound margin. Series History The Eagles broke a 14-game losing streak to Norfolk State with those two wins at CSU last month. The Spartans had not lost to Coppin State since the 2011-12 season, when the Eagles won 87-82 at Echols Hall. NSU has won seven in a row on its home court and leads the all-time series still, 33-13.
