2 021 Natalie Oaks
Natalie Oaks, originally from Gloucester and currently based in Bristol, showcases alternative hip-hop, neo-soul and lofidelity. Fresh out of the South-West and inspired by the history of trip-hop, Nat moved to Bristol in 2020. Her music takes inspiration from Loyle Carner’s earnestness, Ms. Lauryn Hill’s flow and Frank Ocean’s lyricism. Through a heavily musical upbringing, her love of writing started at the age of 10, where her attraction to words became apparent to everyone. Majorly influenced by Lauryn Hill’s album ‘Miseducation’, Nat describes it as “the first album that launched [her] dream to pursue music”; the main objective being to “connect with the audience”; creating something you can completely “immerse yourself in”. There’s no doubt that you’ll unwind whilst basking in her rhythmic melody, abstract lyrics and idiosyncratic sound. Nat’s EP is set for release in March 2021 and focuses on the journey through 2020’s infamous isolation, exploring the relationships and loneliness that engulfed us all. Her debut single ‘One of a Kind’ has already received support from BBC Introducing in the West (with Natalie featured as a showcase artist), and she has also been picked up by Shell Zenner at Amazing Radio for another song on her EP.
Originally formed in Somerset by twin brothers Ivan and Frazer, the line up was complete in late 2015 after meeting James and Dean at university in Guildford.

2 021
As a company, our purpose is to support students eligible for the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) by conducting Study Needs Assessments in a welcoming, friendly and professional manner. These assessments allow us to support students in overcoming challenges that they may face in order to maximise their chances of higher education success. Overcoming challenges takes passion, energy, determination and creative thinking. Seeing so many young adults demonstrating these qualities in abundance deservedly has our support. At A2B Assessments, we are big believers in working hard to ensure all students get the right support to succeed at university and beyond. In turn, they have the opportunity to improve the lives of others they meet and so it spreads. Good things can happen!
2 021 Student Hut is the most engaged and diverse voice for student’s, and the UK’s fastest growing student review site. Student Hut was launched in 2013, by a former student frustrated with his own university experience, to help the next generation of students get more transparency on all aspects of student life. With over 140,000 student panelists and 100,000 student reviews, Student Hut is the go-to service for all student topics. Whether you want to join the opinion panel, read inspiring articles, find amazing offers or search for reviews and advice, it’s a vital student resource!
We’re really excited to be a part of the NSVAs this year, with societies and volunteer development being a subject very close to our hearts. We’re especially pleased to be sponsoring the ‘Wellbeing Award’, and our team would like to congratulate all of the wonderful societies nominated for this award. We’ve been truly amazed and inspired by all of the work you are doing to enable positive mental and physical health and to bring people together during a year where many have been disconnected.
2 021 It’s a privilege to support the NSVAs. Student life is about far more than the lecture hall, and without the hard work and dedication of thousands of volunteers, the university and college experience would be much poorer. Every year, you transform the lives and horizons of hundreds of thousands of people, creating social connections, building skills and confidence, inducting people into civic society, and simply empowering everyone to be who they want to be. Don’t let your degree get in the way of your education. More power to you! SU Skills, the strategy and training agency for students’ unions
MiraGold is thrilled to be supporting the NSVAs this year. We work with volunteers in a number of different forms, as well as our founder, Kathryn, being a serial volunteer herself. The time you dedicate to helping others, or furthering a cause you are passionate about is testimony to your understanding of a world that is larger than any single one of us. The charities we work with rely on volunteers all year round and the fact that student volunteers do it whilst facing such a range of competing priorities is inspirational. Every single nominee should be beaming with pride for their achievements so far and we are excited to celebrate all of you tonight. The winners in each category will be standing on the shoulders of the great student communities without whom none of this would be possible, but must have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments to impress the judges above such distinguished company. Well done to each and every one of you.
2 021 Raleigh International are sponsoring this event to raise awareness about Re:Green - a new programme designed to increase the skills, knowledge, and capacity of young people to directly address the climate emergency.
This summer we are seeking the help of passionate young people to save 30 hectares of Scottish Rainforest from environmental devastation and take direct action on climate issues happening right now! The programme is for volunteers aged 18 to 24 and will be running from July/August and again in September and November as 2- and 4-week placements. In 2021, Re: Green will be taking place in remote areas of Scotland and will challenge you to step out of their comfort zone whilst increasing their environmental knowledge and awareness.
Firstly congratulations on all the amazing work you have all done this year. Nothing has been normal about the last 14 months but the one thing we know is that students always make us proud. We love working with student organisations, Students' Unions and young people and we always get as much (if not more from you) as we put in.
We look forward to celebrating in all your successes! Not only getting through the year but absolutely smashing it. Here within our team at Phoenix Creative are involved in some super exciting opportunities for students and young people. These opportunities involve life changing experiences for those that get involved. We hope and look forward to working closer with many more organisations to help support them to realise their potential.
The National Societies and Volunteering Awards are a true team effort. WIthout the help of literally hundreds of people, we wouldn’t be able to have this fantastic celebration. First, to our amazing judging panels. We had a panel for each award, made up of student leaders from across the UK, a representative from the Student Volunteering Network, and sector specialists. All judges volunteered their time in scoring the nominations and meeting as a judging panel. Whilst we know it was an interesting and fun experience, they are all busy people and we are grateful for their support. We are pleased to have the support of many fantastic organisations as sponsors and partners. Thank you for showing your support to societies and student volunteering. Thank you also to the team at Coventry University Students’ Union and Michael, Matt & Jason in particular. Shout out and thanks to The Tank at Coventry University, the team involved in producing the #NSVAs. Shaun Smith has spent hours creating digital content and we have a team of wonderful students working with us to make the show run smoothly. Thank you to the Student Music Network for working with us to find the amazing artists performing at the event. The Winner’s trophies were provided by Red Oak Roller, who have been a longstanding supporter of the National Societies & Volunteering Awards. A family-run business who put so much energy into supporting student opportunities. This year we invited four Nottingham Trent University students to do their second year work placement with Organised Fun. Thank you to Libby Furmedge, Grace Carrick, Raluca Popa & Rani Antoine for getting stuck in and bringing fresh perspectives to the project! Grace and Libby chose to extend their placement and have been so helpful and creative - thank you so much. Thanks also go to the team at Organised Fun HQ for pulling together all of the people, the spreadsheets and the digital assets to make the #NSVAs happen. A big final thanks to everyone who wrote a nomination or encouraged someone else to and to those doing and supporting the activities to happen in the first place. Well done for doing amazing things in the year we’ve had and good luck for next year!
