The 2012 NSW Championship Feature Show was held on the 13th & 14th at Horseworld Stadium, MARAYLYA. For the first me, the show was held over two days. Thank you to all members for their support and congratula ons for a wonderful display of ponies – record entries were received for the show with 97 ponies entered! For the first me, a full performance program was added and received excellent entries. Again, the Open Aust. Miniature Pony Sweepstakes class was held proving to be very popular and highly successful. 2012 NSW AUSTRALIAN MINIATURE PONY OF THE YEAR The NSW Branch Committee ran the NSW Australian Miniature Pony of the Year for the first time during the 2012 NSW Championship Feature Show. Ponies eligible to compete were required to qualify by winning a Champion or Reserve Champion at any NSW Branch event, and/or a 1st at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, and/or a Champion or Reserve Champion at any Australian Miniature Pony event or Royal within Australia. Swagman Park Miniature Pony Stud Owned by Mark & Adam Farrell—Qld Our father owned horses when we were young. In 1995, I had a swimming pool accident that left me a C4 Quadriplegic and wheelchair bound for the rest of my life. But life went on. After my accident, dad had Clydesdales which I found a bit big to handle in my wheelchair. In 1998 we visited a stud in Qld where we first fell in love with these little ones. In 1999, we moved to our property and started our love of mini ponies by purchasing our first two ponies—a filly, Temeljen Poppy from NSW and a stallion, Janlen Royal Swagman, from Qld. Janlen Royal Swagman was the joy of dad’s life and we showed him for many years winning numerous champions and Supreme Champions. Dad had a dream since he was a little boy to show at the Royal Queensland Show, which he fulfilled in 1999 taking our stallion, before suddenly passing away in January 2000. Many thought it would be the end of the miniature ponies for my brother and myself. After a few months, I was still keen to continue on with them. It took 12 months for our stallion to get over not having our late father Janlen Royal Swagman—Supreme Miniature Pony at the around anymore, with biting and not liking anyone else. But after 2004 Royal Queensland Show putting up with him and still showing him like that, he changed one day and became the best natured pony like he was before dads passing. My younger brother took over looking after the ponies and showing them. Our love of them just grew with them taking us all over Qld showing them and going to the Ekka every year since dad fulfilled his dreams, wining Supreme’s in his memory. We have also competed in the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2005 and Tamworth in 2013. We now enjoy showing and succeeding with our own breeding and own 17 ponies with 3 stallions standing at stud.
