ME AND MY SHADOW As all rugby players know, the breakdown or tackle area is a key part of any rugby game. Enter the Shadowman, a dynamic rugby tackling system, designed by J.P. Hartigan, to encourage newcomers to actively learn and understand the rugby tackle by producing a realistic simulation of the rugby tackle. Consisting of three main components, a harness, a sled, and a tackle dummy, this unique and innovative design provides the user with a moving tackle target. It includes a correct tackle alert system, and target zones which guide the tackler to the correct tackling areas. The tackle dummy has a bent knee posture, which is important for head placement when entering a tackle to avoid serious injuries. Hartigan, a recent product design and technology graduate, and a rugby player, is currently waiting on a patent for his design and is interested in talking to potential manufacturers or investors.

The World Rugby Classic, or Senior’s World Cup, is celebrating its 22nd year this November. Starting as a festival in 1972, Bermuda began inviting some of the world’s top rugby players to its shores to join players in a festival match. This was so successful that by 1980 eight of the top ten most capped players in the world had played in Bermuda. It was out of this that the World Rugby Classic was born, providing a stage for players who had outgrown their international teams but weren’t ready to leave rugby behind completely. Today, this annual rugby tournament is one of the only rugby occasions left where international players can compete at a high level and, even more importantly, meet to keep the brotherhood alive. Over the years the World Rugby Classic has welcomed teams from all over the world, with some of the biggest names in rugby taking part. This year sees Percy Montgomery, Bob Skinstad, Colin Charvis, and our own boys, Anthony Foley and Shane Byrne, playing at the Classic making it an event not to be missed. Watch the defending champions, the Classic Lions, take on

Team France, Classic Springboks, Classic All Blacks, Classic Wallabies, Classic Pumas, Classic Eagles and the Canadian Classics, in this great international tournament. With most of the games scheduled in the evening visitors can spend their days relaxing on the many wonderful beaches or playing a round of golf on one of the island’s six golf courses. Why not join Willie John McBride, JPR Williams, and many others and relive your rugby memories at the various social events? Newcomers to the event will receive a welcome beyond expectations and leave with a bucketful of memories. The World Rugby Classic takes place from the 7th to the 14th November so come along and join the celebrations. For more information visit www.worldrugby.bm
