Welcome to 2011 Family Weekend at Northwestern University! These pages include events happening during Family Weekend for you to attend if you wish, though the weekend is yours to celebrate your involvement with the NU community. We could not be more thrilled to share this weekend with you and your student. Welcome to the community; welcome to Northwestern.

Throughout the weekend FREE ADMISSION TO SPAC (NU’s fitness center) Come join NUFitRec this weekend and participate in one of the free classes offered to families of students. Free giveaways for the first 100 participants.

Throughout the day ATTEND A CLASS WITH YOUR STUDENT Learn about astrophysics in the morning and African history at noon. Prior permission from the professor is required by your student, or view a list of approved classes for visitors.

Explore NU’s own art museum and featured exhibits.

Take a walk into beautiful downtown Evanston or even join your student in an oncampus dining hall for a bite to eat before interest sessions begin.

OFFICE OF STUDY ABROAD INFORMATION SESSION Lake Room 203 Each year, hundreds of Northwestern students participate in study abroad programs around the world. This session will provide insight into the process and possibilities of studying abroad.

3:15 p.m. -4:15 p.m. OPEN HOUSES AT THE SIX UNDERGRADUATE SCHOOLS Each school is hosting an event to allow family members to meet and mingle with school staff, faculty, and peers. If desired, family members may go to the designated meeting point at Norris University Center at 3 p.m. to be escorted to the event by a student leader. 4:15 p.m. - 5 p.m. TOURS OF THE FRATERNITY AND SORORITY FACILITIES The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life will be hosting a tour of select fraternity and sorority facilities. For parents attending a school’s open house, student leaders will guide parents from the open house event at 4:05 p.m. to the tour location. GAME DAY INFORMATION Shuttles begin running from campus at 9 a.m. Buses will be parked at the drop-off location during the game for those who must leave early.

NU’s Dearborn Observatory will host free sessions from 8 p.m. –10 p.m. Reservations are required for the first hour but walk-ins are welcome in the second hour. Please call 847-4917650 for reservations.

Walker Way Fans are invited to line-up on Walker Way before kickoff to join the marching band and cheerleaders in welcoming the team and coaches to Ryan Field

9 a.m. WILDCAT ALLEY Located northeast of Ryan Field The pregame fan fest area offers free fun for all ages: interactive games, face painting, giveaways, Willie the Wildcat, cheerleaders, a marching band performance, and much more!
