Sri Artspace is inspired by the figure of Nyi Pohaci Sanghyang Asri or Dewi Sri from the Sundanese legend, ‘Wawacan Sulanjana.’ Dewi Sri is believed to be the goddess of birth dan life. She has influence over the earth’s resources, especially rice: the staple food for Indonesians. Hence, Dewi Sri controls the entirety of life, material wealth, and prosperity. Her biggest blessing to mankind is abundant rice harvest. Dewi Sri is symbolized through rice paddies and rice field snake. This is translated through the massing of the gallery, which creates a snakelike form and the open space blends with surrounding rice fields. The site is located at Kota Baru Parahyangan, specifically beside Bale Pare, the community center. The buildings are oriented towards the South, opening up and creating a view towards the rice fields. Sri Artspace is a place where art and nature collides in harmony.

Humans, in essence, are social beings that need one another. This hostel values togetherness by minimalizing private zones to its necessities and maximalizing public spaces for interactions. The transition between private and public is executed smoothly through seamless access between the cafe and co-working space, and to the hostel units. This hostel is aimed at backpackers and millennial workers who needs a lively space to socialize and be productive. Important aspects that this project focuses on are natural lighting and ventilation. These are achieved through dividing the building mass into four parts and creating “light wells” so that light reaches every unit. Public areas use as minimal walls as possible.

Cibadak is one of the iconic districts in Bandung, known for its culinary and shopping scene, as well as having a distinct cityscape. In the mornings the kiosks are open, creating a bustling shopping arcade, while at night Cibadak becomes a tourist destination for its Cibadak Culinary Night Festival. However, there is a lack of open and green spaces as well as natural elements. The design of this mixed-use development aims to become an extension of Cibadak’s shopping arcade, enhancing its spatial experience which will lead to a public park as an urban oasis. The open green space alongside Citepus river provides a restorative environment, as well as being a complementary attraction to Cibadak Culinary Night Festival. The shopping avenue focuses on permeability with its open circulation and inviting entrances. Visitors could enjoy the ambience walking from Cibadak street through the shops and to the park. Other than the public park, the urban oasis concept is supported by utilizing roofs as gardens and green facades to provide a breath of fresh air in the midst of bustling Cibadak.

There is a scarcity of public and green spaces to “breathe” in the bustling city center, which is dense with commercial and residential buildings.

Citepus river, which flows along the site, is polluted and not maintained well. The river could be an asset instead of something hidden to the public eye.

EXTENSION OF THE ICONIC STREETSCAPE
Creating an urban oasis to offer a retreat and uncover the natural elements hidden behind buildings. This mixed-use development acts as an extension of the Cibadak shopping arcade, which opens up and centralizes on a public green space alongside Citepus river. The building will facilitate residential functions (apartment), commercial functions (lifestyle center), and a park as a public attraction.
