Design Thesis Software use:

Thesis Question How can the intervention threads a way towards the youth’s social in life in Preston?

To further the intervention with the thesis question in mind and design scheme as a guideline, we extract pieces of ideas from the Roma Interrotta, a 1978 project an interpretation of the expressions of twelve international architects on Nolli’s Map of Rome into Preston’s current building map. We delve into understanding four (James Stirling, Paolo Portoghesi, Colin Rowe, and Piranesi) of the 12 architects’ expressions and interpretation of the Nolli’s map. Dividing the Preston’s map into 12 different segments but focusing on the middle two that consists of the 3 selected sites, which are the Miller Arcade, the Odeon Theatre and the Avenham Car Park. The intervention towards these sites revolves around interpreting, intervining and to connect the visionary ideas by Stirling, Portoghesi, Rowe and Piranesi to design the impossibly possible and design the feasible on Preston.

healing garden

Each semi-detached house is made up of two different typologies with a shared space at the heart of the home to form a community

Healing garden is situated near the canal to take advantage of its healing properties. Plants with calming hues are placed around site. The staggered levelling of the garden enables people to use it as seating, and other activities.

playstreet All houses have direct view to the playstreet, enabling mothers to supervise each other’s kids while they are playing outside.

bringing people together community integration

In line with our site-wide sustainable strategy and the atelier’s emphasis on degrowth values, the diagram illustrates the existing residential area within site integrating with the newly build homes where both households can benefit from lush gardens located outside their homes. This can cause chance encounters and interaction, which then promotes integration.
