Wisdom that speaks to my heart

My name is Miza and I am a self-proclaimed pineapple lover and a walking colour parade. I just recently graduated in diploma in New Media design (wahoo!). I was born to be in the creative world. Literally. I came out my moms womb painting a Van Gogh piece. Just Kidding. Life has been very confusing for me for I have loads of interests with plenty of creative fields like fine arts, theatre, art direction - you name it, but in all seriousness, I am in love with all things creative. Who knows in the next coming years on which creative field I’d go to next, but right now my love is blossoming towards (let’s be specific here) layout design, website / interface / interactive design, illustration and art direction. I’m still not certain if I have a specific style, and it does not make me boring (oh, no),but I’m just going with the flow to see where the ocean will take me. I am a big believer in looking at things in various perspectives in all of my projects and passionate about learning. I love colour and the smell of rain. I live to create and create to live. I hope we get to work together and cook something creatively delicious!

Blossom Spectrum is a group project I did with three classmates for our workshop class. In this class, we were given a task to make a single or a couple of photos for the Nikon Photo Contest 2014-15. We sadly did not receive a prize from them (dang), but it was a good experience for I had the chance to work with great like minded creatives.
The project concept is about the mind, where it is the road to the sanctuary, and the sanctuary is the heart. It is a place where you take refuge from all the adversity that surrounds you. At the same time, it is also a place where you feel and think about which direction you want to go through in your life, and what positiveness you want in your life. Through that process, you start to grow wiser. And as you grow wiser, you develop, and start to blossom into a more knowledgeable person. You are your sanctuary. You are your home. We used objects that were easy to potray the concept with the help of colours. From there, we added other elements in the pre-production to create the feeling of what Blossom Spectrum is.

The 0ther Side 0f ‘R’. The Other Side of ‘R’ focuses around a girl by the name of Rachel, my classmate. I wanted to do a project that reflected a person, but not just any person - I wanted to create about a story of a person that I don’t truly know. So, I decided to go with Rachel since she had an interesting vibe. We discussed personal things that she was comfortable of sharing with me, which was a truly great experience as it clearly was something to get used to for the both of us. I then gather all her stories and tried to create it in the form of imagery. I used simple aesthetics and focused on her interesting characteristics and her personally beautiful stories.

In this project, I dabbled with illustration, which I love. During my final assignment for my ilustration class, we were required to illustrate for a magazine cover. I decided to go for an editorial illustration and used the concept of looking for yourself.I used elements that resembled the power of growth and seeing things in different perspectives.I also added in colours that would go together - connecting with the look and feel of the illustration. I wanted to show the audience that in finding yourself, you have to go through obstacles of daily life to grow, and by looking at things in a different way will help you grow and blossom to become the person you want to be. All it takes is for you to inhale positivity, and exhale all the negativity and take action towards your life.

During my digital publication class, we were to create a publication (duh). I thought of creating a magazine for girls who think and see the world in a different way, and are unique, one of a kind - out of the norm. I wanted this publication to celebrate them. I decided to go with bold colours and illustration work and photography from various artists and designed the layour from all the references and inspiration of what Out of The Norm magazine should and would look like. This was easy for me for I before class started, I got into the art and design of publication and I had so many ideas and inspiration.

During my internship at CUTOUT Magazine / Tsubaki Studio, I had a tremendous time to not only design and illustrate pages for CUTOUT magaine, but to also write articles for them. I was given a title of the article, and from there I decide on what should be written. After the draft and final edit of the article, I’d go back to the article again to get the feeling of it . Then, I’ll sketch my ideas and finalise it digitally. More editing would continue in the process with the creative director. I wanted to add vibrant colours, because who doesn’t love colours, and it gives the vibrant feeling of a designer. Illustrations were created based on each points of the article. To add more “wow-ness” to the article, typography styling were added.

Project Work Individual To finish up and finalise my learning moments in the course I took (which is a diploma in New Media Design), I was given a social entrepreneurship task by my lecturer. We were to come up with a business, and use that business to create and connect with a campaign based on today’s issues. I decided to create a business about travelling - an agency dedicated to guide people in their pursuit of a sweet escape away from the hustle and bustle of their lives. In the design perspective of Sweet Escape’s website and logo, I used elements that resembled what this business should look like. I thought of Sweet Escape to be corporate yet fun, for adventure is full of divine happiness. I also used colours that resembled all things sweet.

Culture Pot, Campaign As for the campaign created by the business I created (Sweet Escape), I wanted to do a campaign on appreciating and learning of culture. This will also connect the campaign with my business. I used vibrant colours to resemble the happiness and awesomness of culture and used illustration as my main look for a livelier effect, and I’ve been dabbling with a lot of illustration work previously. Therefore, it was my niche to come up with something illustrative. In this project I had to not only create / design a website and a logo, but an app, poster, stationary and also a booth. I enjoyed doing this project, but I believe I can do better.
