Moodbox is a 3D composition which explored manipulation of colours, patterns, textures as well as incorporate light to produce variations of moods. The designated mood here is active and dynamic. Dynamic is projected by capturing the impact sequence of a collision confined within a box of wireframes. Each sequence is expressed using colours to define the intensity of activity taking place at a particular section. Highest amount of impact occurs at the red area, the concentrated point. As the intensity decreases, colour intensity reduces and stopped at yellow.
This project focuses on interplay of planes to investigate on various possibilities of space and form. From there an analysis of spatial quality can be gathered. Successful spaces heightens experience and with different function size for spaces varies, this calls for a study on spatial organization. Approach taken in producing this form is if order can be found in disorder, the idea is to unthinkingly cut up planes of multitute variation with disregard to measurements and start to situate each plane to support each other following a guideline that no rule should be applied for the placement of each individual planes. End result will reveal the undetermined organization, whether spatial quality have transcend from the spaces achieved by conventional approach
This exercise emphasizes on the measure of scale, its application to tools, equipments and studies on spatial organisation using space defining elements in architecture. This house for singular living investigated different ways to define privacy, as the client was extrovert/ introvert. It is a challenge to form a suitable singular living that is eager to be an attraction but still require its personal space. The challenge was to employ all glass walls as previously used by Mies van der Rohe and Phillip Johnson.
RETREAT HOUSE for QUEEN of JORDAN, Queen Rania Al-Abdullah Each room in this retreat house is designed to perform its function excellently. The high profile client requires the house to project her personality, thus elegance is key. Monochromatic colour scheme reduces any clutter from the design and to make use of the view towards the beach, extensive use of glass and countless openings were applied so that optimum visibility of surrounding can be achieved. Overall look for the house is ‘white modernism’ where spatial sequence unfolds fluidly. Challenge is how to use the character of openness to define privacy fit for a queen. Utmost important aim is to establish a strong connection between surrounding nature and panoramic view and enable the respective client to experience comfort in her own establishment. ‘to view a glamorous exterior and understand the strong character is how the house will resemble the client,’... beautifully defined Queen Rania
URBAN BISTRO Form is derived from an analogy of an apple, skin layer of an apple after peeling determines spatial sequence informing circulation paths and seating arrangements of different levels which varies in function for social gathering from various types of users. Confined in a series of spiralling components enable functional spaces to be conveniently used. Rigid and bulky exterior, with soft and firm exterior to resemble an apple. Material is mostly glass which allows users to to experience the beautifully shaded area, scarce within a busy city. Levels created in the building overlooks each functional room from above, visually connecting the rooms. Upper level is an unroofed meeting place, where ornamentation is kept to the minimum. Pedestrian walkway goes through the building and serve as a tunnel connecting adjacent nodes. Ground floor is designed with less enclosure and upper is adorned with solid elements to resemble the profile of existing trees. WHY APPLE? Simple, clutter free, all in one design comes with everything you need.
PAVILION: BUS SHELTER This pavilion is designed to adapt and mould itself into the peculiarities of the terrain. Passengers are fed into the system from a double access road and this road will become an integral component within the scheme.Situating the pavilion onto site exploits phasing of general public during peak and off-peak hours, and intends to serve as an architectural identity of the location. In line with its structure, this pavilion will be given a lightweight envelope. A strong signature feature is created by folding planes like sheets of paper, which leans against one another and encapsulate a generous space. This lightweight wrapping is a space receptive of changes, due to its unspecificity to resemble a monofunctional bus pavilion previously employed, it will constantly redefine itself to accommodate any functional needs in the future. ‘...make available building of contrast, and fully utilize the existing ritual to improve its social quality.
SARAWAK SUMMER CAMP This summer camp features buildings with medium scale complexities. Economics, social and cultural considerations as well as climate area are factors to be included which cwilll become an important determinant in the design process. It is also an introduction to elements of site planning, an emphasis on the invariable needs of architecture in a tropical setting. Thisproject involves research into the design process on needs of user, psychological response to environment, social customs and culture. Another aspect of designing a summer camp is to generate a systematic circulation and movement, similar to designing a masterplan.
