Singapore’s diverse multicultural society, stable economy, business-friendly environment and exponential growth over the last few decades have enabled it to grow into one of the most cosmopolitan states in the world today. Not only has Singapore gained international recognition for being a key regional trading centre, the world’s busiest port, and a top location for investment, it is also known for being a leading international financial centre, with more than 500 of the world’s largest and most reputable financial institutions operating on the island. In addition, Singapore is the fourth largest foreign exchange trading centre in the world after London, New York and Tokyo. One of the most connected cities in Asia, by air, sea, as well as telecommunications linkages, Singapore has attracted 7,000 resident multinational companies and 100,000 enterprises to become part of it’s vibrant, dynamic business environment. It is also home to Marina Bay Sands and Universal Studios - Resorts World, two of the largest integrated resorts in Asia.

Curriculum The program consists of about 50 lectures and class discussions, interspersed with group-study sessions in which participants and their teammates will analyze and discuss case studies and other materials in preparation for classes. Course materials range from case studies in marketing and business strategy, to the latest research by faculty from the two distinguished business schools. Company visits and talks by prominent industry speakers and business leaders will be planned on some days.
real-World Strategies for Global Business 2011 marks the 29th year of the Stanford-NUS Executive Program in International Management conducted in Singapore. Dr Francis J. Flynn
Dr Flynn’s research investigates issues of employee cooperation, diversity in work groups, and leadership in organizations. His scholarly articles have appeared in more than a dozen publications that span the fields of management and social psychology. Dr Jesper B. Sorensen
Dr Sorensen is a sociologist specializing in the study of dynamics of both organizations and careers, with work that covers a wide range of topics ranging from firm performance to social inequality. Dr Sorensen won (with Toby E. Stuart) the 2006 Administrative Science Quarterly Award for Scholarly Contribution for the article “Aging, Obsolescence and the Organizational Innovation (ASQ, 2000).” He also won the 2006 Teacher of the Year Award from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He has served as both Associate and Consulting Editor for the American Journal of Sociology, is on the Editorial Board of Administrative Science Quarterly, and is a Senior Editor of Organization Science.

Dr Mahmood is an Associate Professor at the Department of Strategy and Policy where he teaches in BBA, MBA and Executive programs. Dr Chia teaches leadership, coaching for change, creative problem solving, human resource management, negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution at all levels. He was awarded the Outstanding Educator Award in 2001 and 2002 and made the list of the top six percent of educators at NUS in 2003. Dr Chia is also an adjunct feedback coach with the Center for Creative Leadership, and serves on various mediation and dispute resolution committees in Singapore. He is part of a research group at the Singapore Mediation Centre, and served on the management committee of the Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility. In 2006, Dr Chia was awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award by the NUS Business School. Prior to his academic career, he worked in both the financial and manufacturing sectors. His work experience includes managing corporate accounts, turnaround management, managing in merger transitions, and problem loans management. Dr Jay Narayanan Assistant Professor PhD, London Business School
Jay Narayanan is an Assistant Professor in the department of Management & Organization at the NUS Business School. Jay’s research interests are in the area of negotiations & bargaining and creating effective groups and teams in organizations. Jay has taught organizational behavior to undergraduates at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has also been involved in the development and delivery of the negotiations courses for MBA and executive MBA students at the London Business School. Jay has taught negotiations to executives in law and technology firms in Germany, Austria and the UK. Besides this, he has also been involved with the Global leadership development program at the London Business School and as a part of this program, he has been a coach to executives and students. Prior to his academic career, Jay worked with organizations such as Asea Brown Boveri and Mercer HR consulting. Most recently, Jay was one of the founding members of Merittrac, India’s largest human resource assessment company. Jay’s teaching is based on the psychological research he undertakes as well as the rich experience that he brings from the corporate world.

Unleash Your Potential This program will enable young leaders – recently promoted to people management positions to hit the ground running. Most new managers are promoted for their excellence in technical skills. Being an effective people manager requires not only excellent technical skills, but also social and interpersonal skills. The program will equip new managers with skills to manage and get the best out of their team. A key component of the program is a 360 degree instrument. This provides participants with perspectives on how they are perceived on various interpersonal dimensions. Together, the instrument and training will prepare you to identify and utilize your unique leadership style and identify areas of growth. A group coaching session will also enable you to work on a personal development plan that you can implement within a 3-5 year timeframe.

Doing Business in Asia The Doing Business in Asia (DBiA) module at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a customized Asia mini-Elective program for senior professionals in executive MBA and MBA university cohorts from around the globe. DBiA provides an excellent immersion in the geopolitical, socio-economic and cultural landscape for professionals, executives from nonAsia MBA and Executive MBA programs who would like to gain insights into Asian business practices. Master of science in environmental Management MEM is a multi-disciplinary program designed to provide a comprehensive education in environmental management for senior managers to meet the challenges of an increasingly environmentally-conscious society and marketplace. MEM participants will be taught by senior academic staff from the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science, Business School, and the School of Design and Environment. The program also draws upon the expertise of established environmental agencies and institutions from Singapore and around the world. Participants will benefit from collaborations with Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
