FOREWORD The SMP was designed to provide you with an enriching learning experience and help you take the next step forward in your leadership journey.
Dear SMP Participants,
Congratulations on successfully completing the 2017 Senior Management Programme (SMP) at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY School)! More than that, let me also welcome you to the growing community of LKY School alumni of which you are now an important part. The SMP was designed to provide you with an enriching learning experience and to help you take your next bold steps in your leadership journey. I am confident that you benefited from interacting with our outstanding faculty as well as senior practitioners such as Prof Danny Quah, Prof Lim Siong Guan and Mr Peter Ho, among others. For this year’s study trip, you also had the opportunity to visit Chiang Mai, Thailand, where you observed the opportunities and challenges that another city faces as it transforms itself into a Smart City and honed your skills in the practice of public policy, innovation and technology. I hope you found the experience a rewarding one, with memories to last a lifetime. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I hope that you had ample opportunities to learn from each other and form lasting bonds of friendship that will last beyond your brief time at the LKY School. Once again, congratulations on completing the SMP. I wish you continuing professional success and look forward to seeing you in future alumni gatherings at our School. With warm regards,
Donald Low

REACHING OUT
REACHING OUT
REACHING OUT Immersive Integrated Management Exercise (IMEX) offered a unique opportunity for participants to tackle a multi-lateral policy challenge in a real-life setting. For SMP 2017, participants travelled to Chiang Mai, Thailand for one week to study the opportunities and challenges the city faces as it transforms itself into a Smart City. Between visiting Makerspace Thailand to see their creativity in action, staying at the Mae Kampong village to see how community-based ecotourism works, and doing a walking tour of the city to investigate entrepreneurialism, participants were able to experience first-hand the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of Chiang Mai. With the leadership skills and knowledge acquired from the classroom discussion in the first week of SMP, participants were able to create insights and provide recommendations to drive design innovations and entrepreneurial spirits.
