PROPAGATION SEASON! THE EASY WAY TO TAKE CUTTINGS
LIGHT IT UP WHY HPS LIGHTING IS THE WAY TO GO
HYDROPONIC EXPERTS
6 STEPS TO TAKING PERFECT CUTTINGS For growers looking to replicate a plant that has given them a particularly high yield or tasty fruit, taking cuttings from a mother plant is ideal. Because the cell make-up of your cutting is identical to the plant you’ve taken it from, it will also be genetically identical to the mother plant. Follow our quick steps and you’ll be harvesting healthy, higher-yielding plants quicker than ever before!

X-STREAM AEROPONIC PROPAGATOR AVAILABLE IN 5 SIZES
STEP 1: SELECT A HEALTHY PLANT! STEP 2: KEEP IT CLEAN Use a clean sterilised sharp instrument such as a scalpel to cut off a growing tip from a healthy parent plant. It should have a long enough stem to allow it to root – at least 5cm of stem should be available.
S PE E D S UP CROP CYCLES
STEP 3: AVOID DRYING OUT Put your fresh cutting into clean water. If you’re taking cuttings from different mother plants, use a separate water vessel for each. This is to avoid any possible cross-contamination if disease is present in a cutting which you are unaware of. STEP 4: CHOOSE YOUR GROWING MEDIUM When all your cuttings are complete, place them into the growing medium, or if you’re using an X-Stream Aeroponic propagator, place them into the clone collars with around 3cm of the cutting at the bottom. Some growers like to dip the ends into a ‘rooting gel’. If you wish to do this, it should be done before putting them into your propagator. STEP 5: JUST ADD WATER
✔ DEVELOP ROOTS FASTER ✔ PREVENT DRYING OUT ✔ PREVENT ROOT-ROT HOW X-STREAM AERO WORKS: Cuttings hang down into the misting chamber. Roots are misted 24/7 preventing drying out and enabling cuttings to take water in through their leaves. Because cuttings are not sitting in damp soil there’s no chance of root rot. Vented lid Suitable for T5 and LED lamps
Water lightly and cover with a humidity dome.

If you’re using an aeroponic propagator, your plants will be sprayed with a fine mist automatically 24/7. To control humidity, close the vents on the humidity dome and open gradually as the roots develop.
STEP 6
STEP 6: LET THERE BE LIGHT For even better results, place a grow light fixture above the dome. Time the lights to start and stop according to the needs of your plant. NOTE: I t might take 7–10 days before your cuttings begin to show roots, so if you don’t see any before then, be patient. Follow these steps carefully and you’ll have healthy cuttings ready to root in no time!

COMBAT THE CHILL Getting grow room temperature right in cooler months. Making sure your grow room is at the correct temperature is one of the first things you need to be aware of when you begin to grow. But did you know that getting it right can be the difference between getting a good crop and a great crop?

3 6 3 5 3
Basically, if you get the temperature wrong in your grow room, you’ll severely impair your plants’ ability to convert energy into growth. Unsurprisingly, during cold snaps you’ll see a fall in temperatures. Low temperature levels can stunt growth and affect the plants ability to absorb nutrients.

HOW DOES TEMPERATURE AFFECT A GROW?
HEATING If the weather is particularly cold, then a heater is something you should consider. An oil heater perhaps with a timer or temperature thermostat is something we highly recommend. By having this, you can plan for any drops in temperature and provide some heat before things become too cold.
GOOD TO KNOW:
If you’ve got HID lights running, the heat they p emit will raise the tem in your grow room.
As a secondary heating option, tube heaters are beneficial as they’re small enough to be easily placed at any level within your grow room. With super low running costs, a tube heater lets out a consistent spread of heat in the surrounding air, keeping your grow room at a steady temperature.
USE HID LIGHTING TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
THE EFFICIENT OPTION
High Intensity Discharge (HID) lights can cause problems during the summer because of the heat they produce. Use this to your advantage during the winter time by running your ‘lights on’ period overnight when ambient temperatures are cooler and ‘lights off’ during the daytime. The heat produced will help towards counteracting the cooler nights! MH (Metal Halide) and HPS (High Pressure Sodium) come under the general category of HID lamps.
For ultimate control get a heater with a thermostat. We recommend oil filled heaters because they are a compact yet powerful way to establish optimum temperatures and can be used inside a grow tent or room.
To prevent nutrient temperature from dropping, a reservoir heater can be used. Being fully submersible, they sit in the water tank and keep the solution at a pre-set temperature at all times.
@NutGrowSystems
Compared to the alternatives, HPS is one of the most efficient methods of lighting your plants. It closely mimics outdoor conditions such as colour and temperature and prevents plants from growing overly long or spindly. At 40% efficiency, it is estimated to be a more productive lighting source than Metal Halide (35% efficiency) or even LED’s (30% efficiency). With high amounts of red light available, HPS lamps are ideal for flowering and a great choice as part of your grow room set-up in winter, so why not get ahead of the game and try them for yourself?
NUTRIENTS
@NutGrowSystems
HPS lamps are likely to last longer than their closest counterpart the Metal Halide lamp. It is estimated that HPS will last up to 24,000 hours.
