POSTSEASON RESULTS T
he Wildcats have earned postseason berths 10 times in school history, compiling a 7-10 mark during that span. In 1997, NU was the 12thseed in the NCAA East Region, and led 16th-ranked George Washington at halftime, before dropping a 61-46 decision to the Colonials. NU qualified for the national AIAW tournament three straight seasons (1978-79, 1979-80 and 1980-81). NU also played in the inaugural women’s NCAA postseason tournament following the 1981-82 season. During the tenure of head coach Don Perrelli, the Wildcats earned six postseason berths, five to the NCAA tournament and one NWIT bid. Northwestern’s first NCAA appearance under Perrelli came in 1986, when the ’Cats knocked off Kansas State in overtime, 62-61. It was the first NCAA victory for Northwestern. NU advanced to the second round, where the Wildcats lost at Louisiana Tech. NU returned to the “Big Dance” in 1990 and 1991 following backto-back 20-win seasons. The Wildcats lost to South Carolina in 1990 but rebounded the following year to win their first-round matchup against Washington State. A flu bug hit the Wildcats that week, and NU dropped its second-round game at Arkansas. Northwestern won 20 games again in 1993 and earned its third NCAA appearance in four years. Even though the ’Cats first-round game against Georgia Tech occurred during finals week, more than 2,000 fans came to Welsh-Ryan Arena to watch NU advance to round two with a 90-62 victory. The Wildcat women traveled to Tennessee, where they lost to the eventual NCAA champions, 89-66.

In 1996, the Wildcats earned their first berth into the National Women’s Invitational Tournament in Amarillo, Texas. NU knocked off Illinois State and LSU in the quarterfinals and semifinals, but fell to Arizona in the finals, 79-63. Three Wildcats were named to the All-NWIT team: Megan Chawansky, Kristina Divjak and Michele Ratay.

Due to limited courtside space, outlets (except television and radio stations originating live broadcasts of the game) are limited to two seats depending on circulation area and size of press row. Credentials will be mailed if time permits. Otherwise they will be left at Will Call, which is located at the west ticket office in the main lobby of Welsh-Ryan Arena (left as you enter the arena). No phone requests will be accepted. Admission to press row will be granted only upon presentation of valid credentials. Online Service Coverage Regulations Credentials will be granted only to recognized subscription on-line services or to on-line services of accredited media outlets. No credentials will be issued to on-line services that have a direct link to gambling sites. Reports shall not purport to be exclusive, live, play-by-play, or official coverage. Reports and scoring updates shall be used solely in connection with the on-line service’s regular college basketball coverage, and will be allowed no more than two times per hour. Audio transmissions may not exceed two minutes in length and there may be no more than two audio

Photography Policies Credentials for either still photographers or television crews will only be issued to persons on assignment from a publication or station. No credentials will be issued to freelance photographers. Camera persons may shoot only from designated areas on the baselines. No photographers will be allowed along the sides of the playing court or in the seating areas of the arena. Northwestern University follows all NCAA and Big Ten guidelines regarding photography policies. Parking Parking credentials will be provided only upon request and will not be left at Will Call. In order to receive parking via mail, passes must be requested two weeks prior to game day. Parking passes also may be picked up at the media services office prior to game day. Press parking is located in the West Lot, near the corner of Ashland and Isabella streets. The entrance to the parking area is on Ashland Street, immediately west and across the street from Ryan Field. Please note that a press row credential is not valid for admission to the media parking lot. Pro Scouting Passes Big Ten Conference rules prohibit the issuing of press credentials to individuals representing a professional team. Scouts are required to purchase tickets and should fax their ticket requests on team letterhead to Mark Wesoloski, director of ticket operations, at 847/491-4659. Postgame Procedures Following a mandatory10minute cooling off period, the visiting coach will address the media followed by Coach McKeown. The Northwestern locker room is closed to the media.
