Although Joe and I grew up just a town over from one another, it took us 28 years to meet! It was our common love to serve our community that finally made our paths cross when I attended Springdale Rotary Club as a guest of one of Joe’s friends.
As a young boy, Joe joined the Army infantry after high school which took him around the world for 10 years. He moved back to Springdale the summer of 2005 to join in growing their family business which we both work at today! I had been a single mom for the past 11 years. My daughter and I were very aware of the kind of man we needed. And we knew that, at the perfect moment, God would bring him to us! The thing that melted my heart the most was Joe’s love for my daughter, Nevaeh. From the moment they met, she and I knew that this was the man we had been waiting for! In the short time Joe and I dated, he would sneak into our home to scatter flowers around or leave little post-it notes of sweet affirmations. There were always two different colors so we knew which were hers and which were mine. Seeing his love for us displayed like that was probably what sealed the deal!

I describe our story as a whirlwind romance! We met, we fell in love, we got married! Joe proposed to me in December on a horse drawn carriage after a beautiful ride around The Plaza in KC. Two weeks later I was walking down the aisle at our lovingly intimate ceremony. When I called my friend Amber at The Ravington, and told her our crazy plan, she immediately agreed to let us get married in what had been my dream location! Everything fell into place so perfectly! One of my favorite moments of our wedding, was when Joe said his vows to not only me, but Nevaeh as well. He took her hands and told her how much joy she brings to his heart and pledged to appreciate, respect, adore and love her beyond measure, then slipped that sweet little ring on her finger. I was at peace with the fact that she was no longer just mine anymore. Seeing Nevaeh’s reaction when the minister said “you may kiss the bride” will forever assure me that this was God’s plan for us!

"I don't know who this Will Winn is and frankly I don't care. I didn't want to come to this party and I'm leaving in 15 minutes with or without my friends". That is how Kelli Mayes introduced herself to her future husband William. Will says she had him at "Boop" - in that she turned purple in her ginormous pink Betty Boop sweater when she realized she had just said that to the host of the party. Kelli will tell you that she in fact left in 15 minutes, but Will says he was so charming that she actually stayed for at least 16 minutes. Three years later, almost to the date, the couple was married on a beautiful January afternoon at First Christian Church in Fayetteville. This January will be their 29th anniversary. The couple has three children and credit their longevity on working together on their goals and dreams, working things out during difficult times, and laughing more than crying at life's challenges. They will tell you that a relationship is not 50/50 it's actually 100/100. They will also tell you that family is important, but to be selfish with your couple time. Mostly though, it's important to laugh at and with each other and to support each other during the bad as well as the good times. As campy as it sounds, love will, and does conquer all.
