NWDA ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT The purpose of this Environmental Policy is to ensure the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA) continuously improves its environmental performance, and integrates environmental best practice into its business operations. In order to fulfil the purpose of this Environmental Policy, the Agency will achieve the following objectives: • • • •

Reach the carbon reduction target of 15% by the end of the year 2011; Demonstrate a high-level commitment to environmental best practice under the guidance of the Board Environment Sub Committee; Comply with all relevant UK, European and International legislative, regulatory and other requirements; Regularly monitor the Agency’s fuel and water consumption, waste production and recycling, CO2 emissions produced by staff business commuting and the Agency’s contribution to enhancing the local biodiversity; Prevent avoidable pollution or nuisance that may be caused by our activities; Demonstrate and implement continuous improvement in line with the requirements of the Environmental Management System ISO 14001 standard; Ensure projects and programmes the Agency funds incorporate environmental aspects in their development and are appraised for their environmental impacts through the use of Integrated Appraisal Toolkit; Develop and implement; Green Travel Plan and Sustainable Procurement Policy; Promote environmental awareness among employees through induction training, topic specific training and in-house and external media; Review and revise the Environmental Policy on an annual basis.

Meeting these objectives will be demonstrated through the delivery of our Environmental Management System (EMS). The EMS refers to the management of the NWDA’s environmental programme in a comprehensive, systematic, planned and documented manner. It includes individual responsibilities, planning and resources for developing, implementing and maintaining this policy for environmental protection.
