STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – DIGITAL AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES Salary Band A Lower Business Relations, Renaissance House Reporting to Head of Business Relations Professional and Development Work Job Family, Role 5 _____________________________________________ Overall Purpose To maximise the economic development benefits of the Digital & Creative Industries Sector in the region. To contribute to the development of, co-ordinate, manage and deliver the nominated business strategy with respect to the above. To demonstrate a grasp of key business and sector drivers for Digital and Creative Industries. To act as a strategic relations manager for the Enterprise, Innovation and Skills (E,I&S) directorate with public and private sector partners. To assist major employers and key innovators in the region to develop long term strategies and to promote inward investment in the region. To assist the development of the linked sector and to promote the importance of creativity and design across all industry sectors. The objectives are to: • • • • • •

Identify and account manage, at a strategic level, NWDA’s relationship with strategic employers and ‘primes’ within supply chains for Digital & Creative Industries Identify and encourage innovative and dynamic businesses with the capacity to grow and to contribute to the region’s competitiveness, and generate employment Act as an interface between NWDA, the private sector, sector bodies, trade associations, financial and professional services and public authorities in developing the sector To exploit opportunities with other related business sectors To be an expert adviser on Digital and Creative Industries related opportunities and lead collaboration with other relevant organisations To substitute for the Sector Leader and the other Strategic Development Managers as required

Dimensions & Context Will impact on the strategic direction of the cluster, with particular influence on the decision making capability of both private and public sector interested parties. Key Accountabilities •

Ensure coherent planning and joined-up business development within NWDA and across the region, co-ordinating the mix of intermediary bodies and delivery mechanisms. Where relevant, negotiate contracts with the sub-structures to deliver specific programmes. Undertake the ongoing development of the Digital & Creative Industries Strategy with and for the sector in conjunction with Head of Digital & Creative Industries and be responsible for the co-ordination and direction of activity with specific emphasis on strategic employers and ‘primes’. The focus will be on strategic level projects and initiatives to improve the competitiveness of businesses in the sector. It is essential to ensure that the business development action plans take a long term view, are regularly reviewed and are consistent with the Regional Strategy and related policies. Identify and manage specific major projects and initiatives which will strengthen the competitiveness of Digital and Creative businesses in the region. Evaluate new proposals for investment in infrastructure in particular their socioeconomic development and regeneration benefits and develop initiatives to exploit these opportunities, including for local communities Influence and advise public, voluntary and private sector bodies on policies and programmes that relate to the Creative & Digital business sector and identify new opportunities for growth in the overall strategic development of the regional economy. Co-ordinate and secure the resources needed for implementation e.g. NWDA, European funding, developing contracts and partnerships within and outside the region. Ensure growth objectives are being delivered through systematic data collection to monitor and evaluate and set new targets

Collaborate with other regional agencies to ensure effective co-ordination and complimentarily. Be an NWDA expert on Digital and Creative industries and prepare briefs on relevant regional and national policy issues as well as advocate for the cluster regionally, nationally and internationally.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience • • • • •

Degree level qualification or equivalent and member of a professional body. Extensive experience of senior level management and managing significant projects within Digital and Creative Industries. Experience in supporting Board Structures together with a good understanding of business and skills development support mechanisms. Excellent interpersonal skills including planning and organisational skills. Experience of influencing senior executives from a range of public/private backgrounds.
